Hmmm.. so… I don’t know whether this qualifies as makjang but I wanted to participate on the last day of the #MakjangMondayMonth.

Lemme know if I need to tag people.

There was a girl. Let’s call her Bee. She fell in love with a boy. Let’s call him Ree. They were 12 and 13 respectively. She was popular, he was popular. It was a classic teen movie. The jock in love with the dancer. He was the perfect guy who used to walk her back to her home, always staying around 20 meters behind her. He would then wait below her hostel’s balcony and they would then talk about how their day went. They loved each other like only young ones do. Inspired by the 90s movies they watched, they loved each other from a distance. Their eyes held countless conversations while they were supposed to be studying during the evening classes at their boarding school. He would run up to the terrace of the boys hostel every morning at 5:30 just because he knew she would be on the terrace of the girls’ hostel. They could barely see each other but they used to wave to each other. This was their preferred way of starting each day. Ah… one could go on and on about their love story. But let’s move on.

Ree had to leave school because of some financial problems back at home. Bee stayed behind only to move away from that school soon. They lost touch. They joined new schools. They made new friends but still remembered each other. Bee finished her school and decided that now she wants to look for him. She found him on one of those early social networking sites. (Anyone remembers Hi5?).
They couldn’t believe their luck. Maybe fairy tales are true after all. Who meets each other after 4 years when they have completely different friend circles? Specially in a country with 1.3 billion people. Anyway, they rekindled their old love. It was not a simple cute thing now. They were both adults. Or well. Almost adults. It was heady. It was amazing. They decided they will get married when they complete 10 years of their relationship. You see, they were counting the time they were away from each other as well. Everything was colourful, everything nice. They talked to each other all the time they could get away from college each day. After all, they had to find out who the grown-up Bee and Ree were. They fell in love all over again.

But then something happened. Misunderstandings. Distance. Ree was studying in another city and Bee too was focused on her studies. These were dark times for Bee and she doesn’t like remembering them. They were also pretty weird times because Ree seemed to have changed. Not that Bee didn’t feel like she had changed. You see, talking on the phone every waking moment is fun only initially… Later, it becomes a little taxing. They fought. A lot. They broke up eventually. But Bee was sure that they will meet each other again later in life. After all, they had met up after a 4-year gap when they didn’t even have each other’s numbers! She was also sure that Ree thought the same.

She had “unfriended” him but still kept checking his profile. Even though she was angry at him, she never forgot him or their love. Time passed and the profile checking became irregular. One fine day, she woke up and had this urge to find out how he is. She had never felt such an urge and she was scared. She reached for her phone to call him but she just couldn’t make herself do that. She waited till the evening and checked his Orkut profile and it was a bit… weird… His friends were commenting nonsense on his wall. It just did not make sense.

“How could you leave us?” “Just 20 and so full of life” “We will miss you” “You will always be in our hearts”
    “RIP”

    That was in 2009.
