Yes he is really not worth wasting time on. I fast forward his scenes too. Also one part of the problem is that he is played by an actor who doesn’t have a dominating voice and presence at all, and is usually playing the clumsy obsequious second fiddle, so I keep waiting for the real villain to show up.

Anyway, let’s forget the villain. I am liking the rest of it very much.

I don’t know if I can explain it well… I tend to ramble a lot!

Everything is so simple and straight-forward.

There are two time-lines and the two leads have an antagonistic relationship in one and a romantic one in the other. Both of these are quite clear with no underlying complications.
I don’t mean I don’t like the deeper and more complicated kdrama leads that we are seeing in recent years, but these characters which are so simple you can describe in one line but are still able to make me cry with one smile are what originally made me fall for kdramas.

The crime cases are simple and straight-forward too. I know showing super-smart cops and super-smart villains is all the rage and very satisfying, but averagely smart ones can do the trick too. When done with enough heart. Another kdrama classic.

Speaking of the cops, seeing lots of backstories for many side charaters has become the trend. Here we have a bunch of smart cops and inspectors… and we get on with the stories. I don’t know anything about these people but they have still made me care very quickly. Classic kdrama trait.

The directing is firm and to the point. There is no playing with light or camera angle or background music to drive in a point or set the mood. It is simply showing me what is happening.

And last but not least, this show isn’t trying to inform me of anything. And I love it for that. It is simply showing some adventures which I might like to watch. Simple. Classic.

I guess it might not be very exciting for people who have been watching dramas for 3-4 years at most. But for one who has watched them for nearly 15 years it is soothing without being dated.
