Soo is admirable in a way. His problem – for which he isn’t at fault – is that, in one of the most trying times in her life, he hasn’t been there for Gae-ttong.

Indeed, he is part of the reason Gae-ttong is struggling so much. By contrast, Hoon has been Gae-ttong’s pillar all along. He’s been by her side, treated her as an equal (even though his brusque manner might lead one to think otherwise), given her an opportunity to do good as a member of the Flower Crew, and has helped her resolve her problems. Although Soo would undoubtedly do all of those things if he could, the fact of the matter is that he didn’t do those things while Hoonie did. And it’s all the more impressive on the part of Hoonie, given that he had initially had no reason whatsoever to help Gae-ttong (whereas if Soo had helped, he would have been doing it because he already cared for Gae-ttong).
