The frustration of forgetting to save a link! Can’t find The Untamed ending clip: the one with the onscreen explanation of what we were seeing. This clip is not it! LOL.

Hi Untamed Folks, have you seen the video clip of the ending scene where the change of WWX’s clothes was noted? I lost it. But it goes to show that I was watching too fast and failed to see the details. The details made the ending great. 😁

I hadn’t seen the video but I had actually noticed that on my first watch (and I’ve watched the last 5 min. like 7 times lol). Shows some amount of time had passed before WY and LZ meet again.

Waah!! I did not even notice that there was a change of clothes…. gotta see it again now!

I had read this on the Viki comments site. Hadn’t noticed the clothes change before but yes, that’s to denote time has passed. I still don’t think it was very much time.
Also, the camera panning right – I know that always means something in cinematography but not sure what it meant here.
The white in his eyes – most take it has the sure sign it’s LanZhan (personally I think it was a reflection of the white board they use). But that isn’t really needed, the ending is so clearly Lan Zhan.
But I still don’t get exactly what it means “I’m going this way…etc”. Was it just a ruse for the censors? Did it mean something deeper? Was WY calling to LZ with his tune? In the last several scenes at the end, it seemed they would call to each other using their musical instruments. Am I way off base? (I’m terrible at interpreting deeper meanings).

I took it as is LZ and WY went their separate ways. Some indeterminate amount of time had passed and LZ didn’t want to be separated from WY any longer so went looking for him. He finds WY and calls out to him. Happy but hesitantly WY turns around hoping it is actually who he thinks it is. Then breaks out into a relieved and happy smile to see it is LZ.

Is there more to it? I don’t know, I just took it directly as it was shown. I never thought if there was more to it. I think some people just needed as much confirmation as possible that it was LZ. I never thought otherwise so never looked for any deeper signs that it was him. The called out name and WY’s smile at the end was enough for me.

Actually, me too! Thanks for the validation of my feelings!

I probably have worse eyesight than the people who saw Lan Zhan in Wei Ying’s eyes, but I didn’t see him.
I did take it as they showed it, too, though. They parted and some time later, maybe once Lan Xichen was done with his isolation or they had found a suitable replacement, Lan Zhan went to find Wei Ying.
Like @linda-palapala I can’t stand the fact that they apart for too long either, but in this case the separation-reunion trope felt earned.

@shinayame I agree. I think seeing LZ in his eyes are fans really reaching for verification. Even after hearing people say that he is reflected in his eyes I still don’t see it and don’t buy it.

Heh! I agree with you @linda-palapala about the white reflection in the eyes. I don’t think that in itself was significant.

I thought it was well done that Wei Ying is shown playing the flute as he left and Lan Zhan stopped to listen, but did not retrace his steps.

I looked up what YouTube had to say about panning or camera movements. That was pretty interesting in itself, but I feel in this scene, the camera was only used to show that they really went their separate ways, and the wide expanse that would lie between them.

What was great was that Lan Zhan must have regularly visited that desolate ridge in all the time they were apart, to have caught the sound of the flute at the right time when Wei Ying really returned. I imagine how he waited, frequenting that place (when he was supposed to be cultivation master) with WY’s last words that they would meet again, and this was his reward.

We don’t know how long they were apart, but probably from at least one summer to another.

No, I can’t stand the thought they were apart that long! But I do like your comment about his frequenting the place they would meet again.
In my own mind and for my personal satisfaction, I still want to imagine it was WY calling to LZ with their song and LZ heard him calling to him.

@linda-palapala what’s nice about the ending is it was pretty straight-forward (they separated but in the end they are still together) but also vague enough that you can imagine your own things for it.

I can relate to the sunscreen obsession but this sun screen sprays scenes make me laugh every time, how did they survive this amount of aerosol???

Heh! I was wondering what they were spraying at each other. That was too much. I hope while they were being sprayed, they didn’t breathe in!
