Dan-oh: are you saying that Haru disappeared beacuse of me?
    – Even when Haru’s disappeared, the world goes on like nothing happened!
    -How could this happen?

Baek Kyung: Things that made no sense kept happening!
-Whatever he did for you, I can keep doing that now!
Dan-oh: Haru is the only one who could!
Baek Kyung: you can’t do anything but stay by my side, like now!
    Dan-oh: that’s because it’s my set-up!
Baek Kyung: I’m the one who can change your fate, he isn’t!

So now they’re turning him into a jerk who’s FORCING the girl he loves to be with him???? They keep swinging to and fro with his character, it’s like they can’t decide whether to make him good or bad, or just plain confused. Seriously, writer, you’re making me roll my eyes. And here I was, thinking I’m watching an enlightened new drama….sigh…

I hope it’s just the editing of the preview and not the actual reality we’ll be facing next week 🤨

I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt (ack, will I eat my words later on?!) and say that he’s probably experiencing some culture shock since his character is used to Danoh’s character falling all over him. But hopefully once he adjusts to the fact that everything is being controlled by the writer, he’ll simmer down a bit and grow out of this whole temper thing. I HOPE that regardless of whatever he might feel for Danoh, he’ll put that aside and focus on the bigger issue of helping her!!

(Please, Writer, don’t let me down after I’ve defended you 😂)

      Mmmmhmmm
It’s not enlightened; It’s just hiding behind it’s gimmick.
It looks smart but it’s not and any closer inspection of the plot and characters reveals this pretty easily.
His character was all over the place in 6, the analysis of which I will save for the recap, but basically the writing of this show is clunky and Baek Kyung is the biggest example of this.

Because it’s confusing me. One minute he’s nice to Haru…Haru asks where are your friends? Or smthing like that, and Kyung answers, They’re not really my friends. So I’m like, um, okay. Then why have I been led to believe that A3 is your close clique of friends??? Okay, next. He seems to like Haru, so I’m like, aw, he’s nice. And then he ignores him at the party. What????? And the worse, the absolute worst is the end, where he gives that twisted little smirk, and it seems to imply that he, Kyung, had ORCHESTRATED HARU’S DISAPPEARANCE AND I’M SO ANNOYED AND CONFUSED I’M WRITING THIS IN CAPSSSSS!!!!!

I think he’s gonna remain bad for good now… 🙁

It was never an enlightened drama. They used precisely the same tropes they made fun of, & not in a self aware way.
A lot of writing in this drama hasn’t been consistent, BK being just one of them. Is he a slave to his set up or more than his stage? Is he evil or pitiful? In ep 6 he went from acting aware & like a jerk (his field bench convo with Haru) to touching & warm(the concern line with EDO in nurse bed), all in the shadow scenes . The inconsistency cannot be excused by stage & shadows anymore, & it’s more than confusion of becoming aware.
I dislike BK not because of his abusive traits, but because he’s a prime example of bad writing.

Other examples of bad writing & how not enlighted this drama is :-
      1) The rules for self awareness & change to the manhwa aren’t explained. They’ve inserted Haru a a magical character without any explanations.
      2) Using plot devices like sudden wind, sunlight to emphasise things important & relevant to our MC’s. *Insert EDO rant about sunlight & twinkle being only for the main characters*
3)Using stereotypical devices like characters that are set up as foil to each other without any reason as to why they should act so. Candy JD vs Used to be candy EDO, BK as guy that goes awry post awakening vs Haru that tries to do “good”. Fairy too had been set up as antithesis of Haru – he exists to stop them.
Outside of Secret manhwa, in EY show context too we don’t get to find out the purpose or back story or aim or personality of these characters because it doesn’t progress the story of EDO that the show writers want to tell.
It’s all incredibly shallow. Enlightenment where.

Haru also from wonder & figuring out the world & how he can do things to just being adept at all academics(except English cz 🙄) noble arts & sports just to show us how he’s from a joseon mahwa.
You don’t go from figuring out hand eye coordination & strength issues straight to being an ace at physical activities.

There’s no logical progression so how can there be enlightenment?

Maybe he really does like her and is still a bad guy.

I hope he has a redemption in part because the actor is so dynamic. He and our lead actress, to me, steal all the scenes they are in.

Hum… I think Baek Kyung doesn’t how to love and express himself. He lost his mother when he was young and his father is a jerk. He’s just full of anger. And because of the stage/shadow, he is pretty confused. Dan-oh, Haru and Do-Hwa didn’t help him with their comments. But I think the most your character had importance in the story, the most you will be the same in Shadow. Do Hwa is not so different except he doesn’t like cringy things :p
In the trailer, Baek Kyung seems to be kind with Dan-Oh, he has 10 years of bad behavior to compensate for. I hope he will have his redemption but for the couple, I’m in the team Dan-Oh and for now she never shows any interest for him in the Shadow.

Yeah. I wrote a long post (which I didn’t post) about why BK’s character is terribly written by the writers. Both webtoon writer and drama writer.
      It is so inconsistent.
He has so much potential but instead they just write him conveniently to suit the plot.
Assuming he was all over the place because of the confusion I hope there is some consistency when he becomes aware.
