Attempt #47856 to watch anime to force myself to listen to Japanese. Zombieland Saga is about zombies trying to make it into the idol industry. Is …. is this a commentary on the entertainment world?
As far as episode 2 says they all represent ‘idols’ at one point or another, a dead schoolgirl idol wannabe, a couple of former idols, a child star, a courtesan. And they sing metal rock and freestyle rap their way to fame. O_O gosh i miss my japanese class.
Ahahaa long story. But ever since i started formal j-school i have difficulty enjoying watching j-shows. Its becoming a bit “school work” and it stresses me out. I can only last half an episode perhaps. Like i have this *need* to check if i got the words right.
Interesting. Hahaha, I get it. Have you tried listening to j-songs instead? Although I don’t know if that will suffice in replacing the language in shows. On second thought, probably not especially since it isn’t in conversation/dialogue.
I do! It does lessen feeling of “homework”. I think listening to older songs i used to listen to before i started jschool helps more because i kindof memorized them in romanji then its more fun to “replace” them into what i know now. But yes its still not the same as conversational. which is why i still flunk my listening exam. 😅
I do it quite randomly. But im not hooked by one episode, im totally done. I managed to finish the new fruits basket series but again i think the only reason i finished that one because i already watched the old one years ago so it doesnt feel “homework”-ish.
Ooh, nostalgia is really a strong factor. It’s always interesting to go back to older stuff and know what is being said/sung instead of relying on translations.
I had to check Furuba on MAL because I didn’t know the new one was already done. There’s a second season! O.O Well, at least it seems like they’re respectably taking their time to adapt the manga.
Which ones have you dropped? First episodes are really important for me too. Only if they are recommended do I push through if the first episode fails for me.
I dont really remember their titles anymore i must have tried so many but there’s a lot on Netflix that bored me bananas. but my tastes have changed. Ive realized I cant watch fantasy / alternate universes unless they have a school/slice of life component. Theres several recent anime with european themes or superheroes and villains with magic which was a bad idea for a jstudent like me because there’s way too much english/foreign words that have been japanized
So far this zombieland saga is doing ok past ep2 with my attention but who knows i might get bored again. 😂 furuba was a successful listening practice (will have to watch again) but makes me wonder if i should just stop attempting new ones and rewatch slam dunk. 😂
@khalessymd Yep. After watching anime for so many years, I know what I like and it’s a chore to get into anything else. I browse through the anime options on Netflix every now and then and very little interest me too. It’s no wonder they bored you. Although sadly the fantasy-school life genre for anime have become oversaturated with bad isekai or harems that’s hard to get into. It’s hard to find a decent current anime that hit the right beats. I haven’t seen Zombieland Saga but the fact you made it to the second episode means you found something that could work.
Best wishes for your studies!
