Sooo, what does one do to get over an addictive show? Literally stuck after watching AMA because 1. I don’t rewatch (I usually can’t, if I do it’s just some scenes and not the whole thing) 2. There aren’t any kdramas interesting me in the new crop.
I had missed being invested in dramas and after Be Melodramatic, I had a good time watching Yong Jiu Grocery Store, EY and AMA but now it’s all stagnant again. And no, I don’t want to face my real life problems rn, so recommendations are welcome.

Find another drama to watch ASAP … It’s what I did in order to stop myself from obsessing over and doing a rewatch of “The Untamed”

I always go for this option but nothing looks appealing rn. Except I did start a J drama, If talking paid or My story is long. It’s quite good but all episodes aren’t released yet and j dramas take soooo long to sub. After I’m done with a show, obsessing over it and watching bts actually makes me sad because there is no more show 😭😂

Maybe try something that you see the Beanies spazzing and spamming about in the Beanie Section??

        1

Untamed? I tried. Will try again to get past the 1st ep this time. Maybe there was too much information to process in that episode.

It doesn’t have to be “The Untamed”, it can be something else lol I know that the new round of spazzing is for “Arsenal Military Academy” 🙂

Yea, “The Untamed” definitely throws a lot of information at the viewer from the get-go but doesn’t explain it thru until a little while later XD

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again:
A definitely flaw of “The Untamed” lies in it’s choice of storytelling/unfolding of the plot– it throws information at you and nothing gets explained until it has to be and it’s all done in retrospect/flashback, and by that time, depending on the viewer, the pay off may or may not seem as fulfilling anymore and things may or may not feel anticlimactic at that point DX

I’m not sure if it was like this all along even with the novel, or if it was just a choice in the directing and/or writing from the drama as it was being transitioned from novel-to-drama

I sat myself down and watched the first 7 episodes like a snail (I think it took me ~ 5 days, if not the entire week), and then dropped it for a good 2-3 weeks before all the spamming on the Fan Wall made me pick it up again, and I just held on and kept relying on Beanie feedback to keep me interested and invested until I actually hit the point in the drama where things actually began to pick up in the plot (around the Episode 15 mark), and then I was hook, line, and sinker after that (around the Episode 20-21 mark)

    Rewatch an old beloved show

    2
    1

I really wish I can do it someday. Rewatch, unfortunately, never worked for me. I could never bring myself to rewatch any show ever. Also doesn’t help that my favorite shows are heavy (Misaeng, JBL, MA). So twice the watch is twice the pain.

      2
      3

I always enjoy the shows twice on rewatch and after many rewatches they become like comfort food to me.

@wapzy Now that I see @midnight‘s comment and that we like similar shows… Have you seen LOOKOUT? It’s outside my usual comfort zone (action thriller) but it combines fun with some heavy themes, and has wonderfully rounded characters. It was my favorite kdrama bingewatch this year.

        3
        2

THANK YOU! I’m coming from a Lookout rewatch and straight on into a Romm No. 9 one. Am I very weird that I sometimes look forward to my rewatches with much more anticipation than new shows??

I didn’t check out lookout because it did seem like sth out of my comfort zone and one i usually don’t watch. But will check it out now.

I do cameos to pass the time. You might try that if you like. I was the island in that show about an island. I am the STRANGE WIND in Crash Landing. I am instrumental to the whole plot. Without me, there would be no story, and no crash landing. @wishfultoki , @bbstl and @msrabbit know how committed I am. Last night I blew all the way to @bbstl and @hebang ‘s windows on a whim. Then I blew right back. I feel strange, but fluid. Like I am everywhere and nowhere.

My unhealthy habit – keep rewatching scenes that I loved until a new drama comes along to keep me busy and steal my heart.

This year had been a great C-Drama spazzfest for me! In spring I was obsessed with Momo and Gu We Yi from Put Your Head On My Shoulder…… over the summer, Li Xian stole my heart and I was crazily gushing over Squid and Gun from Go Go Squid…… Then Arsenal came in the fall and I was roped into this rabbit hole again of drama obsession. It’s a cycle, wapz. I’m really dreading the day I’ll be over my love for Gu Yanzhen but until then, I’m stuck here with 😍😍😍😍😍 only for him!

    Hwaiting wapz👊

I was recommended by fellow beanies to check out When We Were Young. That was my plan this weekend that just passed but AMA spazzfest on DB had me go off tangent again 🤣🤣 I’m not complaining!

So yeah I’ve got to have a goal this week and try When We Were Young which totally sounds like my comfort zone genre – first love, highschool romance/coming of age, fluff, light – yeah I really need to get back to that!

I have been on a c drama role this year too. Eternal love, love 020, a love so beautiful then I live watched go go squid and now right before arsenal i also checked out put your head on my shoulders. I’d actually say amongst the list, I enjoyed PYHOMS the most as a show but all the characters of Arsenal. I’m also on the rewatch few scenes ship. I can’t watch entire episodes but few good funny scenes can be watched several times. Ep 6 bar scene will never not be funny. I love the leg pulling Yanzhen there but he cares equally too. Wth dramas, destroying our real life expectations since forever.

Yep I don’t want to watch entire episodes and go through Xianrong and friends’ scenes again especially her character disappointed me in the end. I go back to the squad, MantingXTingbai and of course OTP scenes.

I wholeheartedly agree that episode 6 will never be not funny. That episode also ties to episode 9 pub scene which gave me excessive crack ups as well. Like seriously! Yanzhen was just in the background listening to all talks about the romance going on between Xiaojun and Xiang Xiang but his face was everything there. Even when he was blurred out, he was still all I saw! He was just there sitting in the back and I’m LMAO. I’m not normal okay! 🙉

Xianrong probably had the most interesting background story of them all. I did think there was some way of redeeming her but maybe no. I actually also want to check out a Japanese show about that time. I have seen a lot of hate from China and Korea towards them in this time periods shows, should check out their view/side too.

While watching When We Were Young (2018) just remember it will be more friends and family oriented 🙂 Also, I can’t wait for you to fall for Hua Biao :3

Ahhh…. thought it had romance in it too? Or was that not the highlight of the show. Thanks for the heads up! I’ll def try this week to make a progress with this show!

It does have romance… but don’t expect a clear cut full on highschool romance. It feels more like the Reply series.

Shameful self-promotion here, but, would you like to watch me cameo in Crash Landing? I play a STRANGE WIND (note that I type this in caps, I cannot emphasize the importance of me to the plot), and one of the most stirring scenes has me blow Hyun bin’s buttons – all of them – clean off their buttonholes. @bbstl @wishfultoki @hebang @msrabbit are really excited about my role. Thanks, guys! What would I do without you?

My therapy is to make gifs. It takes me so long that I get my fill of favorite AMA scenes without having to watch the whole thing again LOL

If you’re not already watching it, I recommend PEGASUS MARKET for a smart and funny watch. It finishes this coming weekend, so you already have 11 episodes available to binge. 🙂

Thanks for all the gifs, WishfulToki 💘💘 uri spazz club needs some more 😘😉😘

That is actually a smart thing to do. It’s always hectic to go back and search a particular scene in an entire episode 😂
I have been hearing a lot about Pegasus, it is in my list for sure, was waiting for it to end.

        I second Pegasus Market.
You’d want to watch something different, and Pegasus Market fits the bill.

Ikr. The new crop is disappointing or unappealing. I may check out crash landing on you, to see how ridiculous it is. Otoh I started a J drama which is quite good. Weirdly enough if I’m not watching a kdrama, I fee like I’m in a slump.

      3
      1

I feel the same way, kind of aimless, if I don’t have at least one drama going 🙁 ! But I’m definitely going to watch Crash Landing, I love HB and … well, I just love HB 😄

        1

A strange wind will be blowing in too, in less than 2 weeks!

I don’t feel aimless because I have a huge list of older shows to watch, but none that feels like crack drama material. Arsenal was the crack show I waited for all year… it was fun and breezy, with memorable characters and a decent number of serious moments, and… oh no, I feel I may have to go and make more gifs now. : P

          3
          4

Yes, an excellent point! I must also watch Crash Landing to see @yyishere‘s breezy performance!

@wishfultoki @bbstl Just so you know, I will have my own story in the shadow, with stirring lines and appropriate sound skills – not easy, mind you, but hey, I’m a pro, so. *SHRUGS* *BEAMS* I stayed up all night and am very pleased with my humming and hissing skills. Will keep you posted on new skills.

That’s great to hear because earlier today I wondered whether you’d be making your own sounds or if you have your own Foley team. At least you don’t have to worry about being subbed (or dubbed! 😧) badly.

Broken recorder is here. Watch “Untamed”
I didn’t want to watch BL
    I didn’t fancy 50 EPs
C period esp wuxia or xianxia are super confusing
    I didn’t get the hype…. initially
But thank goodness,I gave it a shot.

I did try. But I also had the same concerns as you. The first episode confused me a lot and I wondered if I really wanted to see creepy supernatural things. Any idea when does one get sucked in? Also it gave me NIF vibes which unpopular opinion, i didn’t like. So I am not sure if praise is enough for it to work for me because NIF didn’t either despite always being praised.

      1
      1

I don’t like or watch supernatural stuff and I had the same concerns. However there’s very little on occult or the creepy. The earlier episodes might have a bit of these because the villains were from a sect who practiced the unorthodox demonic arts. But nothing to the extent that I got creeped out. If anything the zombies irritated me. And even those didn’t hang around for too long.

I think most got sucked in around ep 10+. C dramas do get a while to get into. And by ep 20 onwards, most start bingeing.

NIF is a totally different type of show. It’s my top C drama but I like it for a different reason from Untamed.
