I finished THE CROWNED CLOWN, after having it on hold at episode 13 for the whole year. @ndlessjoie, be proud of me. When all is said it done, I guess the ending could have been worse.

No, it was even more ridiculous than I imagined, but I kept telling myself that this is fiction. In any case, it’s a bean.

I personally loved the drama and think it was excellently done. But I thought the ending is where the drama really faltered. I was really disappointed how they handled the ending 😕

I think it started faltering with the plot twist, but I could still understand the story it was trying to tell.. until the end, where it decided to give us a tropey romantic ending. 🙈

I have the tendency to erase Kdrama endings from my mind, especially really sloppy ones… what happened again? Oh no, don’t tell me. I don’t need cringey flashbacks.

    OOph you brave soul.
The mere mention of this drama still enrages me on like three levels, physical, emotional and spiritual and I have since knighted it King of the Endosolistration Club.
If you want my rants/essay let me know lol.

For me it wasn’t as enraging as it was boring (after the plot twist). It had a tendency to put me to sleep with all the staring and dramatic slow motion.

I can’t stand episode 14 for metaphysical and moral reasons, but also the whole thing is a sham in terms of writing. It did indeed get super boring after episode 8.

*sigh* I think I dozed through most of episode 14. Is it the one where nobody thinks of just beheading Minister Shin and he gets to do as a he pleases from his prison cell?

For me the end of episode 15 was the pinnacle of ridiculousness. I think I laughed out loud at the open air circus trial. Has anyone ever walked into a palace with a hostage and forced a king to have a trial? I mean, WHAT?

Anyway, I thought it was poetic justice that Secretary Lee died branded a traitor while killing royalty for a second time, but the drama painted that as a noble sacrifice to save the Clown. “I’m so happy to die your faithful servant”. I can’t. *runs away screaming*

Episode 14 was the one where they say that Haksan is forgiven because he was a product of his circumstances (but the King wasn’t) and that he couldn’t help/ didn’t have a choice but to kill the King or some such utter bullshit.

Yi Heon was my favourite character, and Jingoo played him phenomenally. To see him killed once physically and then twice thematically on top of that and rendered into nothing more than a plot device for the Clown’s fake righteous story, pissed me off.
You can’t just ignore the implications of someone like Yi Heon as a character in favour of pushing your twisted world view.
It made me sick, and not in the least because it is horrible writing.
            But uh… yeah: http://www.dramabeans.com/members/sicarius/activity/734770/

@sicarius Thanks for the link! I think I read the same ideas in the comments section of the final recap? But it’s nice to see it all in one essay.

Re. episode 14: Ah yes, that scene where Haksan cries and swears to be loyal, and bows, and the Clown says it’s all forgiven because he suffered so much being a lonely king-killer, and bows too. *rolls eyes* Seriously, the way this show handled treason was abysmal. I don’t even know what message it was trying to send. Rice tax law must be passed at any costs?

Anyway, you’d better get back to NO SECOND CHANCES. I may join you if nothing else catches my attention.

Yes I posted the same essay in the recap haha.

Such a lonely king killer I’m supposed to give a shit about mmmm yes…
The way the show handled EVERYTHING was abysmal, and whilst I don’t know clearly the message it was trying to send, I know it was a broken one.

Yes I better before I turn into a writing hissing dragon ready to set TCC on fire again. lol
