Between yesterday and today I binged Tharntype. There are 2 eps left. I know better than this. I binge to catch up to a halfway done drama, with 2 eps a week thank you, to catch up to watch the finale, or to consume a completed drama. None of this 2 weeks left after an intense binge. 🙄
Trying not to turn this into a rambling essay.
Type: I like his over blunt, big emotions, prickly nature. It can make him a dick, but he usually will be honest and admit that he was one. His prejudices and hate filled speech are hard to take. I think this aspect and his past trauma is maybe a story that is too big for this drama to properly tell, though I appreciate that he didnt magically out grow it in one episode.
He is too violent towards Tharn though, odd though it sounds, some of it I dont mind, probably because Tharn doesnt. I mean the kick under the table type and then Tharn tickles him…their thing not mine. I had a friend who, when exasperated or annoyed, would hit or push her guys arm and then he’d kiss her and….whatever their thing.
Tharn besides the kissing Type’s chest when he was drunk I like. He is definitely a care taker type.
Though his senior….whoa. Not ok, no matter how Tharn and his brother spin it.
So overall yes, I like the show.
One BL that I really enjoyed this year that i dont see mentioned is Seven Days: Monday -Thursday. It is Japanese and I thought it was just really sweet and gentle love story. Though more about the emotional and the first tip into falling for each other than the physical.
A lot of good points, but that high school kid rapes Techno?? I just thought it was creepy his brother would trade private pictures of him. I didnt realize this was a prequel and it explains all these side characters.
Whenever Type gets mad that Tharn is treating him like a girl I love that Tharn’s reply is just, “I’m treating you like my boyfriend. “
Some things might make more sense if you saw Love by Chance first. The rape happens in the last episode of that and involves him conspiring with Techno’s brother to basically wait till he’s too drunk to do anything about it and let him “have his way” with him. I live in terror the show is going to come back with Techno and the creepster friend as a couple. I wouldn’t put it past them.
As for the other plotlines, if you saw LBC you’d already know that Tar broke up with Tharn following what I think was a gang rape. Which is kind of hard on Tharn because he never knew what happened and his boyfriend dumped him, his best friend blamed him and the band broke up. So he lost his boyfriend, best friend and band in one fell swoop and never understood why. That’s why he’s so clingy and gets so upset about the idea of breaking up.
By the time Love by Chance happens, Tar has clearly confided in both Tharn and Type and regularly seeks out Type to talk to, much to Tum’s confusion. Tar and his stepbrother Tum are in love (spare me BL stepbrother plotlines urgh) but Tar is too traumatised by what happened to him. Which is funny because in Love By Chance, the Tar and Tum plotline is exactly the same – these tertiary characters glumping around their own plotline boring everybody.
I so wanted that guy to get punched. I was rooting for Type to completely lose his control with him.
Interesting discussion they had afterwards though. Type sees the sex as wrong, but maybe not if it had been with an older woman. Tharn sees sex as sex no matter who with, but doesn’t see it as wrong either way.
But also @bcampbell1662 I just find it interesting that he’s like “yeah, I didn’t enjoy it but I consented to it, it’s fine and he’s still a part of my life and sex is sex but also I can’t tolerate being on the bottom anymore and use sex to try to manipulate and control people now like he did to me, but it’s all good, no issue here”.
