I went to job interview for a job that I didn’t want last week. The interviewer, upon hearing that I am not married, said “Then family won’t be a problem”.
The interviewer thinks that because I am not married, they can ask me to work long hours and I won’t be able to say no.
Now I understand why Nam Se Hee said that he had to go home to feed his cat.
I got the job i want and i still suffer “family matter has to wait” because im new in the company and single. Even a well needed 3 days break has to consider who left in the company first. Mind you, 3 days is the longest break i’ve taken so far. Seems like every company tradition to treat single person like us like this.
I live in a country where the interviewer can shamelessly ask me to show them my latest 3 months payslip. So question about marital status, and other private info is unavoidable at all.

Yep, I’ve been there. Apparently they don’t believe single people have lives.

Yes, and we don’t mind working late everyday and weekends because laundry and other house chores will be taken care by the house elf

I previously thought this mentality only prevalent in the government sector of my country, but I guess the old ways is still widespread

I’m sorry that you went through this. It’s unfair and that interviewer sounds like a real piece of work.
I wonder if you’re able to decline to disclose that information in future interviews?

How annoying. I hope you find a job at a place where you’re respected just as much as everyone else, married or not. Hwaiting!
