I’m in Spain right now trying to converse in whatever little I remember of Spanish and all I get in my head are Korean words and I have to bite my tongue to not blurt them out. My brains all muddled.
When I was studying Spanish and watching a lot of kdramas, I’d dream in a weird mishmash of Korean, Spanish, amd English. Sometimes even with subtitles 😂
My brain is always a mishmash of English, Korean (from dramas), Mandarin (self-taught), and Cantonese (my mother tongue/Chinese dialect spoken at home) … ALWAYS
I had to drop my Spanish course in college because I had just come from a monthlong trip to Korea and every time the teacher asked me a question in Spanish, I answered in Korean. My brain could not make the switch
I did this in Mexico the past two summers. My kids, who have been taking Spanish since Kindergarten, were no help to me when they suddenly went mute in front of any native speakers. I tried asking where a man bought his alcoholic beverage and could form the Korean phrase in my head, but not the Spanish one. Lol.
