What a great episode. I cried practically all the way through it, but it was a good cry. The satisfying kind. So many great conversations, and lots of great acting. And, as always, gorgeous cinematography.

What a great episode. Funny but emotional, and lots of satisfying moments. Despite the tinge of sadness, it didn’t overshadow the story and didn’t drag the mood down into depressing.

Ahem. I decided to try, purely as a writing exercise, posting up an Air City summary that was (gasp!) completely devoid of negative comments. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I could do it, and having seen Episode 11, I think I picked a tough one to do, but hey, it’s a challenge.

As a totally unrelated aside, I found out what the phrase “bore you to tears” means. It’s kind of obvious, but I’d never thought about it — but it’s all those tears you get from yawning so much because you’re so bored.

Like I said, completely unrelated.

Although we’re presented with Gi Chan’s “fiancee” — the woman long-designated to marry Gi Chan by both sets of parents since they were young — Episode 7 is really not much about her, which I appreciate because I like that Bad Couple has thus far strayed away from cliched love triangles.

Thankfully, things lightened up a bit this week! As much as I’m enjoying Flowers For My Life, last week was starting to bum me out because it was starting to get sad. At least we have a lot of sweet moments between Ho Sang and Hana here, and I think I’ve figured out a way (in my head, that is) that this series can end logically but satisfactorily.

Oh, and this episode tells me her name is actually Lan, not Ran (the Korean letter used doubles for both “l” and “r” and I don’t know Vietnamese to have guessed Lan). But I’ll stick to Ran for now to stay consistent.

If I hadn’t committed to recapping this series, I’d have jumped off the train and stopped watching, if not by Episode 6, then definitely this weekend. I still love Lee Jung Jae to bits, and find his acting is still top-notch in a sea of mere adequacy, but it’s not like I can’t appreciate his hotness in pictures and screencaps, rather than video. Plus I’ve got all those episodes of Feelings (Neukkim) to catch up on, and he’s barely aged in all these years anyway. I’d stop giving myself these self-inflicted headaches, and just read someone else’s recaps instead. Ah, irony.

Eye candy is what Air City has going for it, and in many scenes, I’d find myself zoning out and musing, “He has great cheekbones” (agent Min Wook), “Nice profile” (Lee Jung Jae), or “I like that hairstyle better than the one he had last week” (Min Wook again, and Ha Joon).

Does anyone still watching think this series is good? I’m not being sarcastic (for once), I really want to know.

Wait, did I say Gi Chan was unbelievably sweet in Episode 5? And that women ought to beware? Yeah, well the Gi Chan infatuation sickness is sure to get worse in Episode 6.

What I enjoy about Bad Couple are all the surprising little goofball moments that catch me off-guard. I’d say I’m pretty drama-savvy, and fairly picky about what I find comedic as well, but somehow Bad Couple sneaks in little surprises that make me laugh out loud.

SONG OF THE DAY

Son Dam Bi – “Start” aka “The female Rain,” who doesn’t remind me so much of Rain as she does Park Jiyoon. Which I suppose isn’t too far off, since both Park Jiyoon and Rain were with JYP, and I’ve always felt JYP’s influence was stronger than the artists’ “styles” themselves. [ zShare download ]

Oh my, Episode 5 of Bad Couple is so redonkulously cute. It’s a hazard to the health of fun-loving romantic souls everywhere. I haven’t recapped the entire episode, but highlighted some of the absurdly sweet moments between our favorite pair, Dang Ja and Gi Chan. And really, that’s all you need from this episode anyway! This show is so great in its ability to melt hearts into gooeyness, yet manages not to be too corny by undercutting all that romanticism with a lot of humor.

All I can say is, beware, married men! There’s no they’ll be able to measure up to Gi Chan after this.

As an episode on its own, Episode 9 wasn’t bad. It was cute, and there were fun moments between the characters. As a part of the series as a whole, however, I find it odd and out of place. I just don’t know what they’re going for anymore with the overall series. Is it a thriller, is it action, is it romance? It should choose, because although it has elements of all of those, it’s doing a poor job mixing them together.
