Fans flock to Gu Hye-sun’s art exhibit

As you may know, actress Gu Hye-sun (Boys Before Flowers) has been planning an exhibition of her drawings, which just opened this week in Seoul’s Insadong La Mer Gallery.

The exhibition is showing under the name “Tango” — which you may recall is also the title of her recently released novel. Coming hot on the heels of her leading role in the super-popular hit drama Boys Before Flowers, Gu’s book has been selling very well, and now her art show has also attracted an impressive attendance as fans have flocked to take a look. (Since the opening on July 1, weekday attendance has averaged 700 per day, while weekend traffic increased to 1,000. Many have come from Gu’s online fan café and members of fan forum DC Gallery.)

Proceeds from this event will go to charity, toward the “With Campaign.” Fan club members also collected funds and donated them at the art exhibit. The exhibit, which features fifty of Gu’s drawings, will close on July 7.

Honey Lee at a Neutrogena fan-signing

Ah, Honey Lee is so pretty. The classical musician, former Miss Korea, and now actress is currently the face of Neutrogena; as its brand model, she held a promotional fan-signing on July 4 as a tie-in event with their sunblock product.

You can currently watch Honey Lee acting in the role of a cool, smart lawyer in the KBS Wednesday-Thursday drama Partner (and doing a pretty good job at it, actually)

Don’t trust that cute face of Song Joong-ki’s

This article of Song Joong-ki actually came out before his recent turn in the drama Triple — it dates back to February — but now he’s got a higher profile as the drama’s adorable speed-skating Poong-ho. In fact, his baby face is deceiving, and belies his actual age — he’s 24. It’s also interesting to note that he’s quite an accomplished speed skater, which makes his casting in Triple pretty much spot-on.

Han Yeo-woon: The face of purity

When Story of a Man began, actress Han Yeo-woon, who played Kim Kang-woo’s good-hearted younger sister, wasn’t even a blip on the radar. She’d had a supporting role playing a junior baker in My Name is Kim Sam-soon, but was hardly a household name. As Story of a Man progressed, however, she took on an increasingly significant role, and by the series’ end she was arguably a more integral character than some of the better-known actors, like Park Shi-yeon or Park Ki-woong.

Trust 10 Asia to shed some light on lesser-known (but just as deserving) talents, as they do with this interview/article on Han, which was published last month (late May), while the drama was still airing.

Kim Kang-woo isn’t so clean-cut anymore

This article/interview with Kim Kang-woo talking about the end of Story of a Man isn’t nearly as good as this in-depth one from a while back (“Birth of a Devil”), but now that the drama’s over, I’m looking to ease the withdrawal with some more interviews with its actors. A couple more to follow soon!

“They say Kim Kang-woo really is a bad guy”

“Chae Do-woo… is truly dreadful. To achieve his goal, he can even kill. What’s worse, when he’s pushed into a difficult situation, he tells his wife, ‘Go to your ex-boyfriend and ask for help,’ without any problems. He’s a person who can’t be understood through the thoughts of normal people.”

Kim Kang-woo left the character Chae Do-woo with the drama’s last broadcast on June 9. Although the ratings were low, Story of A Man / The Slingshot had achievements that were no less than of those dramas with hit 30% ratings. One of those has to be the discovery of Kim Kang-woo’s villain.
