Beanie level: Errand boy

Shin Hye Sun, the ultimate goddess in this messed up drama universe. Dancing and interpreting her own version of Giselle – I was with her throughout her whole performance, being moved once again. #Angel’sLastMission:Love

This week’s episodes’ highlight for me was Yeon Seo’s character growth. I was so proud to see so many great changes in her. She put herself in Giselle’s shoes, went so deep into her character, and realized that she was the same. She cannot hate the man she loves; she longs for him, she misses him, but hate and anger are far from what she feels even if this love puts her in so much misery.

”True love cannot be defined by any means; it’s a cluster of adjectives. It’s crazy, passionate, complicated, painful, but most importantly true love is real. It’s that feeling of being inexplicably drawn to another person. Love isn’t finding someone you can escape reality with, it’s finding someone who makes reality worthwhile…”

Oh Katrina💔 I was rolling my eyes in this scene and then she showed up, and I broke! I suddenly found my heart twisting, no joke! How can this writer ever deserve Shin Hye Sun? She’s doing her dirty with this godawful plot.

      3
      1

Ack. It broke my heart, one of the few times that I can understand why the lead is going to leave his love.
And WTF Hu. What happened to the guy playing with kittens?

But this was another runaway disobedient angel. Not sure why he got many years with his wife while JKW was confronted immediately or why JKW has been allowed to live freely all this time. I guess whatever serves the plot is what we get. Not even going to talk about how messed up that execution was.

yes it didn’t make a lot of sense however much my heart hurt for the grandmother – wait, what just happened?
I now officially HATE Angel Hu….

        1

And he said her days were numbered and that the angel kept preventing her from dying BUT now that that angel is gone, she’s still alive? lol I cannot.

How ironic that this grandmother was visually impaired. What are you implying now, writer-nim????

          0

Yep this writer *smh* I’m dumbfounded every time. Like I don’t even know what to talk about. The plot holds no interest for me anymore. I’m basically here for Shin Hye Sun only. 💔

I guess my feelings are more complicated. I still am really invested in this drama and the relationship between YS and Kim Dan. I care about NN, and I want to see her compete with and maybe even excel against YS. I want to see what happens with JKW. I’d like to know why our butler is so dedicated to YS. I thought YS made a lot of good moves in this episode in terms of putting her aunt and JKW in their places and showing empathy to the dancers and the elderly couple.

At the same time, I’m really disappointed in the writer. I totally understand that right now she needed to throw an obstacle between YS and Kim Dan. Although it was definitely an attention-grabbing scene and allowed Dan a gut-wrenching vision of YS in place of the blind woman, the execution was totally inconsistent with what happened to JKW (what, no glittery gun? no feathery costumes?), and totally inconsistent with Christianity, which wouldn’t matter except that Hu is masquerading as a Christian priest in a Christian church, so I think we’re supposed to assume he serves the Christian God. It also was hard to understand why Hu knew exactly where to find this run-amok angel, but waited until this moment to deal with him. This makes me worry a little about where this drama is headed, because if you look at the banner, Dan holding the umbrella for her, a heart on his pocket, and if you look at the use of comedy in this drama, then it seems pretty clear that this is not going to have a melo ending. Also, unlike JKW and Angel Noel, Kim Dan is obedient. But if the writer is going to be inconsistent, then I’m worried that this plot train may be headed way off the tracks.

Yep – I just unloaded on my wall about what you just wrote. It’s been bugging me since last night.
ugh – what is this writer doing?

The only redeeming factor in this episode was seeing Yeon Seo’s individual growth. I’m amazed to see how patient she was, her dedication to make things right. And Kim Dan, no denying here, has influenced her of these changes.

Yeah unfortunately I’m not to invested with any other characters than Dan and Yeon Seo. Well yeah maybe Lady Butler too cuz her dedication to her is admirable.

            1
            0

Also reflecting on this episode, I dunno it gives me the vibe that angel/God here is the antagonist and not Kang Woo. He said that God’s punishment was an act of devil, now I *think* like we’re dealing with a different kind of God here. Maybe Yeon Seo is right, Kim Dan is following some sort of cult…. sigh😪 look at what this drama has turned me too – imagining unimaginable ridiculous plots that don’t make sense.

Off the tracks or no I’m in it to the end I just hope that all this sacrifice( in the show) is worth it. I still adore these together.

Sadly so much Doesn’t make sense. It’s so against everything I grew up with going to Catholic church. Which if they want to get creative, I get it. Its make-believe but it seems like the only thing they’re working toward is maximum pain for everyone involved and its distressing.

There were so many great things about #SearchWWW Episode 2 that I forgot that this was my most favourite. It happened at the beginning of Episode 2 that my brain had put this aside and I didn’t remember it until I rewatched. 😓

Bae Ta Mi, gurl, preaching…

👏👏👏👏👏

“Self-respect, Self-worth, self-love. There is a reason they all start with “self”. You cannot find them in anyone else.”

Okay so… I didn’t really need another drama to spazz on… but throw me some fiesty female lead who knows her sh.t and worth and a drama about how women are ruling the world my way, and I’m 100% down #SearchWWW

And I’m calling it now. These two are going to be such great bffs! Lol.

😐😐

Oh yeah! She just did that, gurl.

🤣🤣

Bae Ta Mi! I love you already.

So I’m hoping Jang Ki Yong’s role in this drama is more than just Bae Ta Mi’s love interest and that there is actually a better purpose to his character, but I dig this noona-romance.

      Morgan: We didn’t sleep together
Ta Mi: (paused) Why did you lie about that? We did sleep together!
      Morgan: So you do remember.

What he says hits home, it makes her tear up. #Angel’sLastMission:Love

I like the emphasis on making happiness a priority here. It is something Kang Woo scoffs at because it was taken away from him. On the other hand, it is the most important thing to Dan. I hope he doesn’t lose sight of this pursuit of happiness. And that he and Yeon Seo can find it together

i know i know…. i love the female lead who knows what her heart wants and clearly not keeping it inside….. she is not so usual kdrama lead…., but you have to give credit to Dan-ah too for being “touch me not” innocent flower with all these facial expression esp that gulp *cough*

#Angel’sLastMission:Love

I cannot get over this drama’s OST! It is absolutely one of the best. Incredibly emotional. It was a song written for Yeon Seo…

🎵It’s alright, it’s alright
Even if I lost everything
It’s alright, it’s alright
Because I have somebody next to me
When I`m crying, when I`m alone
You’ve always been with me

Oh, you are my angel…🎵

Here is its MV with English subs. Very heartwarming.

Gege, being the best gege ever! 😭 #LeCoupDeFoudre

😭😭😭

😭😭😭

Holding the family together in tough times even though he, too, is hurting.

So was this the reason why he let go of his dream to be a military jet fighter and became a doctor instead? It’s more practical, and perhaps to help his father get affordable medical aid by becoming a doctor himself?

Also, how awesome is that he was willing to give all his hard-earned money for his sister? He said his bank account’s password is her birthday… ehhrrmm well it’s his birthday too.. but anyways! Such a thoughtful gege. I’ve never wished for a twin brother (or even a sibling for that matter) until meeting Guanchao! TT____TT

Honestly it shouldn’t have come as a surprised to me that he can sacrifice his dream for his family. Family is his everything.

Now…. If he can change from being a lousy boyfriend too that would be great….. sigh. I guess gege cannot be *that* perfect…. He’s got to have some flaws, no?

5
3

I love him as a brother! His attitude as a boyfriend is questionable tho. He kind of reminds me of my youngest uncle who is a really good brother and son but was never in stable romantic relationships. And guess what? He’s getting married in a few months to a woman who already has a child.

Not all men like him will settle down but I hope Guan Chao will.

    2
    1

Got my heart broken with Wuyi right there. She can put behind her feelings for him to be his bestfriend, to be that someone he could freely open up to. I love her so much. In ep 15 now and they both ended in Beijing and looks like their “friendship” looks stronger than before.

Hopefully your uncle has found true love with his soon to be wife! And that he’ll be a great step dad to her child! 😬

      1
      1

When I look at Wuyi, I just want her to be happy despite her bad luck in love. I even have trust issues when she’s involved with him.

That’s nice of you! Actually, we’re more worried for his future wife than for him. But I’m sure he knows what he is doing 🙂

The plot twist…. #Angel’sLastMission:Love

She is the angel’s genie 🧞‍♀️

Sigh. That ending tho. 😱 How can you expect me to wait another week??? The joy and misery of cliffhangers…. #Angel’sLastMission:Love

Also, I live for drama moments like this. LAWL.

I love how Dan scrambled to explain this awkward situation, but this awesome girl right here acted so pissed that they were interrupted. Hueheheheh.

12
8

i love love this scene… esp how natural it was to have L had his feet bit gliding on the grass to show his urgency to reach out to her (may be it was not intentional but I LOVED THAT)

and that lil girl gave ideas to LYS abt kis…keke kids are much more naughty than the adults in kdramas

    2
    1

Went back to rewatch 😂 yes you’re right! He did sort of slid from rushing to her side. I thought that was cute!

Lol this is era we live in now I guess – two innocent adults being told what they should do in that moment by a kid 😏

      1
      1

That whole scene was sweet. How unabashedly earnest Dan is, and her half-hearted attempts to be snarky, all the while she is melting underneath.

    Help.

    2
    2

      she is melting…hell yeah.
the role reversal (unlike usual kdramas) is at its best here… i am just head over heal for this Male Secretary (oh yeah this another Secret Life of secretary….isnt it)

      2
      1

I need help too!!!! She’s soooo adorable, I love how she’s most of the time just struck staring at him in this whole scene. And when she was like, oh no he shouldn’t fall for me. I DIED. She’s pep talking herself to not fall for him when all her eyes wanted to do is look him in the eye. LOL

I really really want to see a scene of Yeon Seo finding out that Dan is playing a cupid for her and the director. I want to see her then arguing with him to not force her to love Director Ji cuz it’s him whom she wants to spend time with and love. And I want a conflicting moment for Dan too, and realize he doesn’t want to play cupid anymore and wants her to himself. Eeeeppss! in my romanticized fictional world, this happened.

Final thoughts on Put Your Head on My Shoulder

…And so it’s over; what an amazing ride it’s been. This C-Drama took me by storm for an entire month. I`m glad that it ended in a satisfying note; just as how I imagined the ending would be after reading the snippets of the Gu Family’s story in the A Love So Beautiful novel.

Put Your Head on My Shoulder has hit all the right notes for me. We watch two complete strangers get to know each other better and fall in love. A slice of life story. Very mundane. No grand plots. Their ordinary lives flash before our eyes. My kind of drama.

What makes it a gem and stands out from the slice of life stories I have seen and loved is simply rooted in its characters. Fictional characters that feel so real. You relate to their story one way or another.

Momo was such a refreshing female lead. I loved that she had never made her first love her entire world. Her feelings for Fu Pei did not make her a slave to her emotions. Every time he turned out to be a letdown, she would sulk about it for one moment, but it was never the end of her world. It’s sad how she only had Fu Pei to depend on before she met Wei Yi. Those times she needed help; she could only think of Fu Pei even if she knew deep down, she would receive little to no assistance from him.

I certainly appreciated that we read a list of her goals in life, and that dating was the least of her priority. She is strong-minded and sassy, can come off as snarky, cranky, snippy, a bitch resting face too, who does not know how to back down from fights no matter how petty they are. But I’d take her personality any time of the day over female leads who were portrayed to be frail, vulnerable types. She reminds me so much of Shan Cai from Meteor Garden. Both strong willed female leads who never shied away from giving their love interests a piece of their mind.

    4

Mama Situ advised her daughter that being together with Fu Pei, a good boy but very fickle minded, would make her keep everything in and settled instead in crying all by herself. But everything came natural to her whenever she was with Wei Yi. I loved watching her be sweet and snappy with him. There were so many things I liked that she did for Wei Yi, but to name a few:

    • She cleaned the house as Wei Yi did not like dirty environment. She was not as slob as used to.

    • She refrained from eating her favourite dish because he didn’t like the smell. We never saw her complained about it, and I completely forgot that she was crazy about this dish. This just goes to show that she can change for him because she respects his preferences and he won’t hear a complaint about it explicitly.

    • She challenged him every time. It’s amazing that as early as episode 2 we saw her influence on Wei Yi. Fu Pei told her that no one could ever convince Wei Yi once he’d made up his mind. Momo brushed that off, went to see him, and challenged him to write a post graduate exam which was so difficult there was no way he could solve it. There were many more events since then that Wei Yi did something because she explicitly and/or implicitly challenged him to.

    • She learned how to make porridge for him. Because Wei Yi caught a fever, she genuinely wanted to look after him and had him consume food to make him feel better. It was unfortunate that her effort went unnoticed because he was sulking at her until he read her SNS post about it

    • She flew to Germany to see him. This is one of my top favourite scenes ever. Taking Wei Yi by surprised by showing up in his room, jet lagged, and asleep in his bed. I loved how the will to see him became much stronger after realizing the petty thing he did to keep her around – hid the contract she signed with her mom underneath her desk.

Suddenly, facetiming him wasn’t enough anymore. She needed to see him and be with him because she incredibly missed his presence.

    • His future mattered to her. Even if they were already married, she was careful to ensure she didn’t mess up his well-planned out future, ie. accidental pregnancy. Although I wished she talked to him about family planning ahead of time, I liked that she took precautionary measures. She wanted to take on the responsibility both for herself and Wei Yi.

Very natural! So meant to be. And Momo’s inner peace reflected on that her smile, I love it 💕

        2

On Wei Yi. It’s such a rare occurrence that I get to see a male lead doesn’t shy away from being extremely nice to the girl he likes. It is an automatic swoon worthy and a favourite of mine if a male lead doesn’t yell and is soft spoken. I loved that he was there to witness what Momo had to go through with her first love. He saw firsthand how Momo and Fu Pei were slowly falling out.

In his narration in Episode 24, he mentioned how meeting Momo made him care about things he didn’t used to before. He originally wanted to teach Fu Pei a lesson for hurting Momo, but he ended up falling for her the more his life got entangled with hers. He also ended up wanting to do things to make her smile. I loved how he specifically mentioned that her smile was what got him under her spell. I went back to Episode 10 – when they had their first kiss, she was smiling at him. His subconscious mind wanted to kiss that smile that always took his breath away.

There are so many things about Gu Wei-yi to make him one of my all-time favorite rom com heroes and you describe them so beautifully, Fammie!

One of the things I deeply appreciate is that when MoMo is trying to sort out her own feelings toward Fu Pei, Wei-yi never interferes and just lets her deal with it on her own terms. Even though he is aware of his growing feelings for her, he never pushes his feelings onto her.

      4
      1

Gah! Yes! How could I forget to mention this! Thank you for bringing this up and I especially loved this about him – he had never once controlled her life, rather, let her do whatever she wanted / had to do. Pre-dating times, he would sulk because she would hang with Fu Pei. But he never told her this thought bothered him because who was he to stop her anyways? ☺️ So I’m glad that he knew his boundary with her and respected her right from the start and how this gesture never changed through the course of their lives.

        3
        0

Because he saw how she was like whenever Fu Pei left her behind, he knew how to read her emotions. He might not know what was causing her to feel happy or dejected, but he could read between the lines unlike Fu Pei.

I also liked that he becomes petty with her whenever she frustrates him. His IQ really did drop after meeting her, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s snarky, he’s petty – perfect combination, yeah?

There’s too many to mention of the things he did for Momo. Some of them went unnoticed because she didn’t know and he didn’t tell her, but to name a few:

    • Making snowman. I loved how he wanted to make a snowman because it was something she said she wanted to see. She only said this in the passing, but of course anything she said stuck to his brain.

    • Getting out of his comfort zone. Wei Yi is one picky eater, doesn’t like smelly, spicy, or sweet dishes. After meeting Momo, he’s started to try out these dishes, and realized they weren’t too bad. He also started to learn and picked up on a lot of things outside his geeky, physics world because of her.

    • Bending his rules for her. He didn’t mind anymore when things go a little crazy in his space. Her birthday party was one. But going back as early as episode 5 epilogue, we saw that he appreciated the noise and lively bustle that Momo and her mother brought into his home. When he was left all by himself, he realized nothing was the same anymore and that he actually enjoyed and missed her company.

Put Your Head on My Shoulder now sits as one of the top favourites for me. It checked off what I wanted for a light, rom-com genre. It was an easy watch, no angsty conflicts, plus both parents supported their relationship. I will miss you so much Wei Yi and Momo!
