Beanie level: Water maid

(Asian) Drama binging has taken a backseat for me for the last few weeks. Maybe I’ll start one again… In the meantime, I watched Dark, The Replacement, and Apple Tree Yard.

have you finished dark? so when is mikkel? i love the show! I’m not usually a fan of dark, sci-fi shows, but Dark is such a well thought and well executed show!

Just finished TW-drama Bromance! The OTP chemistry was insane! I ended up watching the drama just for them because I wasn’t as invested in the side couples. Overall, very good!

Yeah – it is one of the very few TW-dramas that I really liked. And yes the chemistry was HOT!!! Were there others in the show?

There was Nana and Qingchang couple and Ah Chao and Zihan couple. I ended up skipping most of their scenes because their subplots could be their own drama. And the love triangle was non-existent too, so didn’t watch any Zherui scenes either.

Coz it wasn’t their first time working together. 😉

That drama was completely bonkers in the best way and so addictive. And yeah – those leads set the screen on fire every time they were together.

Hey Beanies! I just finished this j-drama. It’s a heart-warming series that takes a look at different sides of parenting. If you like cute kids and musicals, you’ll enjoy this!

Watched The Effect yesterday (Short BL drama). It was a gut-punch in the best and worst kind of way. It didn’t shy away from the subject material and handled it with the sensitivity it needed.

I just finished The Untamed. It’s been a while since I felt so satisfied after finishing a series. I was getting emotional watching the last episode (my Dad was in the other room and got concerned because he thought I was crying). I don’t usually put in the time or emotional energy into watching every show (because I’d be a mess every time). And there are multiple reasons why this show among the others just seemed to click for me. I am sad that it’s over, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance and stuck with it. Thank you Beanies for all your help and support while watching this. It felt very comforting to have other people to talk to. (P.S. I’d still like to be included in the posts).

    Isn’t it great.

I am currently on a re watch and picking up things I did not before.

I just love it as well. Will go down as one of my favorites of all time.

I’m glad you liked it! It is definitely a drama that doesn’t leave you. Even 3 months later and I am still hooked. The drama just evokes those feelings and emotions in you that I haven’t gotten from any other drama before. ❤️

Glad you succumbed decided to watch it and love it as much as the rest of us.
I too am on a second watch and second reading. It is such an incredible story of friendship, love, family, loss and extremely beautiful people!

As if Hollywood making a live-action of Your Name wasn’t enough, there’s always this news that manages to pop back up. More details in the link below:

SPOILERS for #TheUntamed Episodes 15 and 16:

Episode 15:
-Thanks in advance for the warning about when the plot thickens and stuff goes downhill.
-Is there a backstory between the Wen Clans “bodyguard” and Madame Yu in the novel? It feels like there’s something there.
-I know it was supposed to be sad scenes of parents sending their children away for their own good, but all I could think of was that the boat gliding away so slowly, so they probably would’ve gotten sore throats from all that yelling at the slowly receding figure(s).

Episode 16:
-Also, their parents sent them away for a reason. I guess it was for dramatic effect and for the audience that they went back to see what happened to everyone and their parents. But they could’ve spared themselves the heartache of what they saw.
-The timing of the thunderclaps when Wei WuXiang discovered Jiang Cheng was missing was perfect. The only thing I could think of was that similar scene in Mulan, when her family discovers her missing with her father’s armor.

I’m also curious about the bodyguard. I think there is something between him and JC’s mom (hoping those who’d read the novel already would be able to give some input).
Another thing is his expression. Every time it really shows that he doesn’t want to do what he keeps on being commanded to do.. and that these things are going against his conscience but I just don’t understand why he is still doing these things…

Okay, okay. I started #Untamed and I’m hooked. I knew I would’ve started sooner or later with all the Beanie posts about it. Please, please tag me in any and all future posts! Haven’t read the novel yet, but I will after I watch the drama. Still at the beginning of the drama (around episode 3). This might be the drama to get me out of my slump!

Hello fellow Beanies! I keep dropping dramas lately. Nothing seems interesting to me right now. I’m trying to watch dramas from different countries, instead of focusing one one, but it doesn’t seem to be working. One drama per month seems to be my quota right now. I miss having a show to look forward to and one I enjoy the whole way through. Does anyone have any advice?
But these last two days, I did go through my entire Plan To Watch list on MDL and cut it down from ~1500+ to ~820 dramas. I had a habit of adding any and all titles to my list, regardless of if I liked the genre or not. Call it time wasted or procrastination, but I’m glad I did it.

I vote for The Untamed 🤣

    1

Thanks for the suggestion! That’s definitely on my list! I’m loving all the Untamed posts on the fan wall. 😂 Knowing myself, I’ll probably go down the rabbit hole of anything Untamed-related: read the novel, watch the animation, watch the drama, etc. I’ve never watched a 50 episode drama before. Haven’t watched many long C-dramas yet…

820!!! I guess I should be happy my to watch list has around 10 dramas.

Hey Beanies. I just watched a J-drama \”Takane to Hana\”. Haven\’t read the manga, so I don\’t know if it\’s a faithful adaptation, but I enjoyed it. It\’s short too, so I was able to finish it in 2 days. The poor headstrong female lead and the rich whiny male lead reminded me a lot of the leads from Boys Over Flowers. But episode by episode you saw some form of character growth, which was heartwarming to see. And they call each other out on behavior too, which feels rare.

I loved that drama. Tha whole bycicle substory was amazing on its own. Everything was so wholesome about this show.

What were your thoughts about the second leads?

    0
    1

I think we may be talking about different dramas. “Takane to Hana” was about a high schooler who took her sister’s place at a marriage interview and didn’t let the company heir push her around. This drama was so short, it didn’t have well-developed second leads, so I can’t answer your question.
You might be thinking of the drama “Takane no Hana” about the daughter of the flower arrangement company. There’s unfortunately a one-letter different between the two drama titles, and the MDL link that I have in my post has Takane no Hana (with an “N”) but the actual webpage links to the one that I watched. And I didn’t explain anything about the plot to avoid spoilers.

Oh, I see, I didn’t click on the link. Actually, the “to” one looks interesting. I will check it out.

Beanies, I just finished the C-drama \”Put Your Head on My Shoulder\”. It was so cute and fluffy! I binged it in a week, which is fast for me nowadays.

Just finished watching the Thai drama \”Great Men Academy\”. I loved it! The story had many twists and turns that I didn\’t expect. And it helped that it was a short drama, so nothing felt too drawn out.

Looking at that Boys Over Flowers score. Here I thought my scoring was tough. I gave it a 6.5. I might need to reduce it to a 6.0 though. Yeah, I might need to reevaluate some stuff.

Are you interested in getting recommendations for dramas to watch based on your list?

    1
    1

Well, since I’ve got over 1,000 dramas to watch I think I’m fine overall, BUT if there’s any note-worthy or “classic/ iconic” dramas that you think I missed, please let me know.

      0
      2

And I’ve started adding a lot of completed dramas by year (just 2018 so far), but I think that might be too much because then I don’t remember why I wanted to watch it. And I never know if all the dramas I’ve “pinned” have updated subtitles on the websites that I use, so the number of dramas that I’ll watch could be a lot lower

I didn’t check your other lists. Oh dear, that’s a lot. I’ll start with what’s on your plan to watch and on hold lists to help you pick out some:

Because This Is My First Life
        Chief Kim
        Dal Ja’s Spring
        Descendants of the Sun
        Incomplete Life
        Just Between Lovers
        Long Time No See
Love In The Moonlight (espc. given your Coffee Prince score).
        Prison Playbook
Put Your head On My Shoulder
        Stranger
        Thirty But Seventeen
        Tomorrow With You
        Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
        What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim
        HIStory2: Boundary Crossing

Since you watch LGBTQ+ themed dramas, there’s one that’s not on your list that I would recommend. That’s Mood Indigo. It’s a very adult drama though. No nudity, but it’s R.

There were some dramas on your list that started off really good and then went South, real bad. Let me know if you want a heads up on those.

Starting a new series after a long time. I don\’t usually watch action/ suspense, but the description caught my eye. After watching the first episode, I’m so going to continue watching this show. It’s an intense show because it deals with school bullying and suicide. The writing so far seems to take it seriously and gives it the respect it deserves. It does feel cheesy at times and it is a dramatic set-up, but it hits the intense scenes when it needs to.

I will say that because of DB, I watched To.Jenny a while back and I LOVED IT. 🎶 Tiramisu Cake is amazing!

Thank you for the suggestions! I’ve read a lot of Beanie fan posts about those shows. Those shows are on my watch list. I’m a habitual list-maker, so it’s difficult for me to actually start something. And I’m usually late to the hype because I like to binge watch

What C dramas have you watched and which genre do you prefer?

        0
        1

I’ve only watched Absolute Boyfriend, which I guess was Taiwanese. Not too big on medical dramas because of American shows (surgery and blood mostly) and I’m not sure about horror stuff. I like romance and fluff, thriller seems cool as does historical and legal (to some extent).

          0
          1

I have not watched many C dramas but I will suggest
            1) Nirvana In Fire – this is my top C drama and probably top drama. I never miss the opportunity to recommend it. It’s a period drama but fictional, not historical. Excellent writing, directing and acting, beautiful cinematography.
Other period C dramas I’ve watched are Yanxi Palace and The Story of Minglan. The latter is solid.
            2) Fantasy – I don’t really like this genre but there are many such C dramas. Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms – Eternal Love, Ashes of Love, Ever Night, Legend of Fuyao, The Rise of The Phoenixes, The Legends are popular with beanies. I’ve watched a couple.
            3) Romance and fluff – again not my fave but I love it when it’s done well. Recently, I was head over heels with Put Your Head On My Shoulder, currently watching Le Coup de Foudre. Popular ones include Love O2O and A Love So Beautiful.
I’ve not watched any C thriller except for Love Me If You Dare and When A Snail Falls In Love. They were quite good.

Visit Open Thread(on Friday night or morning depending on where you are) and What We Are Watching(Sat) where Beanies talk about their fav shows.

I go to Dramapanda for C dramas information and Douban.
