Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

Seeing a lot of posts about The Untamed. What\’s great about it?

1
4

I started it because of the rave on the fan wall. It wasn’t until 16 episodes in that I realized I had fallen for the show. What’s so good about it? Hmmmm for me it’s just that I loved every single side story even though I was not prepared to. I loved the relationships of family in the drama, of brotherhood, of knowing how one’s experience I. Life can shape who they are. And I loved seeing Beanies post BTS of the show.

    4

It took me 27 episodes to finally get hooked, and it was because the chemistry between the 2 male leads was phenomenal. Plus, there’s tons of pretty all around and that helps!

    4
    0

Hmmm.. Everything is great about it 😍

I could write an essay but I’ll keep it sweet and short. The drama managed to evoke some incredibly deep emotions and feels in me which no other drama has managed to do to this level. That alone, despite the dramas flaws and issues, has made it my all-time favorite drama.

It’s gorgeous! Every actor, every costume, all the camera work. The chemistry between the leads helps too.

How in Joseon would they acquire a block of ice??
Ref: Tale of Nokdu, when le 2nd lead made bingsu

A trip up to the mountain? Burying water in wintertime?? I had the same question but it seems like a wealth thing…

    0
    0

They did say its really expensive, so maybe they get them from mountains during winters & store them in cellars? I dunno. @pakalanapikake might know… Or maybe @wishfultoki

    2
    2

Oh, good question! I don’t know about Joseon, but in USA (before the advent of fridges and electricity) they cut ice from frozen lakes during the winter and stored it in underground cellars, covering the blocks of ice with sawdust.

Interesting tidbit: In early 20th century South America the demand for ice during the summer could cause riots. Usually beer companies produced and sold ice, which people used to keep their meat and perishables cool.

@wishfultoki got it exactly right. 😉

Maybe he made his “pushover” swordsmen friend ride horseback all the way to some high mountain to chop a bit of ice from the top…hahaha now the question is…how did he preserve it for that long without it melting?

Huh, just realized I levelled up to Chaebol\’s poor doppleganger a while ago. I can think of 2 dramas to match this description. The Crowned Clown and Are You Human Too.

This may sound cheesy, but I was suddenly reminded why I chose my university degree. It\’s because of a Kdrama. Remember: War of the Son. It felt like such a huge impact for me at the time that I chose to take neuroscience as a major and psychology as a minor cuz maybe, just maybe, I could get into research about curing Alzheimer\’s? It\’s a crazy, distant dream. Two years into the course and I cannot emphasize enough how fascinating the human brain is. And it\’s actually thanks to Seo Jin Woo (Yoo Seung Ho) that I discovered my interest in the field. I\’m nowhere near as brilliant as he was, I have little faith in my own dedication and intelligence, but, where I am right now, I like it.

36
1

There was a documentary about pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and other chemicals and their influence on brain development, function and destructive effects on brain cells and probably one of the biggest element causing Alzheimer’s. By ignorant of science observation of some cases in family and people I can see that they have a point there. And just few days ago there was a program in radio about birds, how do the chemicals used for ages to treat grains for planting and all those chemicals used by agriculture is killing slowly so many of species that’s alarming. It’s poisoning little by little the body, affecting thyroid function and making them not able to reproduce themselves and not only that.

So happy for you that you could transform drama obsession to something useful 👏

As far as kissing scenes go, that was pretty good IMO. But what REALLY tugged at my heartstrings was the parents and the boy. No matter how much you try to avoid it or run from it, death is inevitable. Death is a part of life. That\’s just the way it is. I hope one day the parents can find peace.

I’d like to believe that Yeo Jin Goo ad-libbed that earring line and IU can’t help breaking character and laugh at it. Seriously feels so genuine. XD

15
9

    It was ad-libbed? How cute!

    1
    1

They have both been ad-libbing throughout the drama. I wouldn’t be surprised.

      2
      2

What other parts were adlibbed? This felt like the most genuine line in the whole thing… lol

        3
        1

Hard to say. Most cameos did some ad-libbing . IU adlibbed some tantrum moves like tossing stuff at Jingoo. Jingoo adlibbed a lot of jokes in the bickering.

          0
          0

        I didn’t know that. That’s great! I haven’t watched any behind-the-scenes videos.

        1

There was one with Lee Yi-kyung where he was ad-libbing and Yeo Jin-goo seemed kinda jealous of that and tried out some ad-libbing, too. It was so cute XD

          1
          3

Yea, most of the cameos ad-libbed. But Jingoo (coming in with invisible business card) was just playing around during rehearsal. CS didn’t have dialogue that scene but he was supposed to be watching from behind a building.

The funniest was when MW had to run to her idol foodie and Jingoo screams “watch your bad knee [old lady]” and IU just dropped to the floor laughing hysterically. Too bad they had to redo it and he changed the line to “[I didn’t know] you can run”

As a mean of procrastination, I\’m editing a bromance music vid that I doubt I\’d share including MCU bros and Kdrama bros. I\’m pretty proud of it cuz I\’ve never done it before. I am not proud that because of that, my procrastination (got as assignment due tmr and another in three days) game is even stronger. Oh well. 😛

Hey, y\’all! I got a question.
What does your profile name mean to you? Is it just your name? Your bias? Is there a story behind it?
Mine simple means \”weird kid\”, the x replacing ak in Budak (kid) XD

4
51

That’s a really cute profile name! Mine is to do with nature. I love the idea of idling in a greenfield somewhere, a quiet space, away from the hectic city life. It also has to do with my career when I made the account – an environmental law – and the fact that despite all the green in my dreams, I have neither an open natural field to lie in nor any green (money) to roll in.

@fatcat007 once asked this question too. ^^ Her thread may additionally have replies from some older beanies I think, who no longer participate actively.

    5
    1

Your profile name is really creative! My username (sensationalfantasy) was actually because I was a hardcore SF9 stan back when I created this account. It took me a long time before I changed my profile name to liar song and I think it was the time when AOY2 was about to air. I just relate to Song Ji-won so much and she was actually the reason why I, a serial lurker on the DB community, started posting on the fan wall: to gush about her and AOY2.

Your post made me think that a weekly Get To Know The Beanies would be so much fun! We can play games (like the ones people do on Twitter) and do some fun activities!

    Oh boy this again.
    Okay.

Sicarius comes from the Latin for hitman or assassin (literally, “dagger man from sicae meaning dagger).
Five years ago I had to come up with a title for a screenplay based on one of my main writing projects about, you guessed it an assassin. Then I became an admin on a facebook page and chose this as my online moniker.
It has since become an actual irl nickname as well from the people who knew me first as Sicarius, or Sic (which also means thus in Latin, quite conveniently). If I change my handle it will pretty much always have Sic in the title.

Queen of Melonia came about when… well… here: http://www.dramabeans.com/2019/05/dramas-and-food-from-rants-to-royalty/

    9
    1

Sicarius is also a genus of sand spider native to South Africa, the name of some Jewish Zealots in the early first millennia, the name of Spacemarine Captain Cato Sicarius from the game Warhammer: Dawn of War, and the name of a character in the Emperor’s Edge book series by Lindsey Buroker. But it is for it’s Latin meaning that I, and my own writing project, is named.
My profile picture is a chibi of the main character from said writing project drawn by a friend of an ex friend.

      6
      1

HA! My name is pretty self explanatory! The only thing not clear would be that I have a really big (almost unending) list of oppas! hahahah!! And yes oppas can be moved out of the list as well! I always thought that I should make a twin identity with unniefangirl!

    5
    1

Sadly my oppa list ended with Kim Soo Hyun. He is 8 months older than me.

Lately I am a dongsaeng fangirl 😜 fangirling over boys a decade young than me. And it’s gonna get worse from here on 🤣🤣🤣

I am a big fan of badass female characters! RenOIshi is basically the roundabout character name of the assassin, played by Lucy Liu, in Kill Bill (it’s ORenIshi in the movie) plus it actually has my real name on it…sort of 😜

And of course my ‘real’ handle name is coffee prince because it is centred around the badass Eun Chan who I will love forever.

    3
    1

A common thread I’ve seen around our beanie community is that we all love assassins and/or aspire to be one. (Unless you’re Sic and you’re actually one….in name. I can’t vouch for if she’s actually one in real life.)

Anyway, I just love how all of us love
      badass female characters!

      3
      1

It’s from the word infamous, but changed ”mous” to myss (miss) to be female, so it is infamyss. 13 was a prefix I added a decade ago, back when SM wanted to add a 14th member in the group. Almost all ELF on Soompi who had qualification to change their username (I believe you had to have a couple of thousand posts) added a 13 prefix to their username. Now I don’t support only13 anymore, I grew up and learned that it was just a number. I now support all Super Junior members who work hard in the group, 9 of them currently.

Anyways I’ve been using this username for so long that it just feels weird to switch back to infamyss. So 13infamyss it is! 🥴

When I created my account, my favorite female lead was Hong Ra On from Moonlight Drawn By Clouds. I just left out the family name and tacked on the Ah 🙂
The other part is because I saw GOT7 on July 6th 💚 I’ve been thinking about changing it to RaOnAh misses GOT7 though 😭

I just wish to be pig rabbit. Inspired by one of the first dramas I ever watched and first oppa crush: Tae Kyung in You’re Beautiful 😆

I can relate to yours. Mine is a nod to the phrase “shit happens”, but I wanted it to be positive and more shipper-like. Plus, love, crushes, relationships, etc. can happen even when you don’t expect it.

The Korean club at my school hosted this cute little event where they serve us Korean fried chicken and put on the movie Innocent Witness. I absolutely loved it. Both the movie and the “KFC”. I needed more, dammit. 3 wasn’t enough. I sat next to and talked to this cute Japanese boy in which the brief conversation went something like:
“Are you Korean?”
“No, I’m Japanese.”
“Oh, cool.”
“It’s because of the nice skin, isn’t it?”
“Well, actually cuz your name sounded a bit Korean.”
Ha. Disclaimer: I forgot his name. Of course, I wouldn’t have talked to him or anyone in that room (except for my best friend who came with me) if they hadn’t introduced themselves to me first. I was surprised that people WANTED to talk to me.
Anyway, Innocent Witness. Please, watch that. I have an autistic brother so I understood to an extent why the young girl acted the way she did. It brought me to tears on numerous occasions and even delivered a lot of shock factor in court scenes.
I feel like I’m just babbling at this point so yeah, thanks for reading till the end. Bye.

    1) You have a Korean club at school?? Wow!
    2) I also have an autistic brother. I don’t like watching movies about the topic because they make me feel depressed, and usually they show cases of people that were “cured“ or learned to communicate.

    3
    1

surprisingly, watching movies like that DOESN’T make me feel depressed. If anything, I realized that the brother I have is one of a kind and they taught me to embrace him as he is and treat him better (cuz I know I’ve been a poor sister from time to time).

    It is coming November 2020.

Guys, I just watched Arthal Chronicles ep 1 and I don\’t know what to feel about it yet. Should I continue? is it worth it?

2

So far it’s been bad in various ways pretty much all the time. I’m sticking with it mostly so I can make fun of it in What We’re Watching, and understand the sh*tposts.

    2
    0

I have mixed feelings. So much is wrong with it, but it finally held my attention around episode 7. )I’ve fast forwarded through much of the suffering and the dancing.) How much do you love the actors? I don’t know if it’s worth it yet.

    3
    1

Yep, it’s been a mixed-feelings ride. My take on it was:
      -Ep 1: Not for me.
      – Ep 2: Oh, this I like!
-Ep 3-6: Zzzzzz convoluted politics. Dropped. Picked up again. Fast forward.
      -Ep 7: Hello, what’s this?
-Ep 8-10: OMG WHY IS THIS ENDING NEXT WEEK?!!

I can’t say that it will end well because ep 1-6 dragged so much that there might not be time to develop the story well, and Part 3 airs in September… I’m not looking forward to the wait.

Conclusion: watch ep. 1-2 and skip to the beginning of 7. There is a 3 min. recap of Part 1 (ep. 1-6) there and that’s all you need to jump in at ep. 7. That’s my opinion, spare yourself the pain.

1. Her persistence of marriage makes me happy
2. Truck of Doom did not doom him, only mildly injure. Nice cliché dodge.
3. I see Tony Stark at the back there. And now I’m crying again #loveu3000

This scene, paired with this line from Oh My Angel by Chai:
“It’s alright, it’s alright”
Beautiful and tragic. Cuz you know it’s NOT gonna be alright. But for now, we let them love. We let them live.

ALML ep 10
Well, it’s out there. You’d expect something bad to happen when they took time to say “I’ll be back” and there’s only 5 minutes left of the ep. The falling scene felt poorly edited but hey, at least she knows now. That’s a point from me. But the preview sounds pretty unpleasant.
The scene where YS comforted Dan stole my heart. But I’m starting to see more and more now the difference between SHS’s acting and KMS’s acting (based on Beanies’ comments). He really doesn’t match her standard.

ALML ep 9
I want Dan\’s spunkiness and goofiness back. I miss it so much. But OOH that kiss.

8
2

I was waiting for that kiss, but the more I think about it, the more awkward it seems to me. If you look at their feet, they’re standing at least a foot apart, and he’s leaning way over to kiss her. I don’t know if it was deliberate or not, but it really expresses the fact that there’s still some distance between them, namely Kim Dan’s secrets. Just comparing to the hug at the end of SLOMS, where DMI and JGH have completely reconciled and confessed, and there wasn’t an inch left between them.

    0
    1

It felt very awkward, but the way you interpret it kinda made me laugh cuz I’ve always thought of Kdrama kisses as usually being that awkward until they’re not (e.g. Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo in Boyfriend). I’m not laughing at YOU, tho, it’s an interesting way to think about it.
