Beanie level: Noble idiot

2024… I just realize that at the end of this year, we’ll already be at the 10 year anniversary of Healer. Yes, I still love my Korean fried chicken.

Healer is just so classic. Very hard, if possible, to beat. The story is written very well, with almost next to none fillers. The romance is also very well done. It’s a classic for good reasons.

And the dream to own an island in a tropical country! Think about that!

    8
    2

Even Vincenzo tried that “island” trick.

      4
      1

ahhh Vincenzo was a ton of fun until this one thing happened…and I think I blocked the drama out of my mind. xD

        1
        0

Yes! I loved that there was no filler. The story was planned out so well, details from early on would pop up later in the show. Have you read the interviews with the writer on the Moru Moru blog? There’s been several dramas I have enjoyed since then but Healer was the last time I was crazy addicted. Maybe I’m getting too old. haha
I could relate to wanting to move to a private island.

      2
      1

There is something about Healer that makes the whole show very addictive. No, I haven’t read their interviews, but thanks to you I think I’ll search for them now. 🙂

Is it impossible to access the page for Healer: Episode 20, except through webarchive? I know there\’s been \”objectively better\” shows since then but it\’s sad to think that Healer was the last crack drama for me. And I can\’t even access the 11,270 comment section.

I think my comment mining for Healer stopped somewhere at episode 18 as episode 19 had more than 1000 comments already. Never dreamt of digging through 11000 something comments for episode 20. If I am not mistaken, the closet record to that is My Love From The Stars with more than 3000 comments for the finale.

    2
    1

That is pretty awesome. How are you able to do that? How long did it take for the 3000?

      0
      1

Ah, I meant the record for an episode with the second highest number of comments on DB, not that I went through those. I didn’t, because I didn’t care much about My Love From The Stars.

        1
        0

Healer, I really think it was underrated because it was really really good

    2
    1

Very unfortunate that it didn’t do well in Korea. 🙁

      0
      1

Yes, if I remember correctly there was some other drama wearing same time that was super hit in SK, so Healer didn’t get love it deserved, but internationally it was loved, though it didn’t help ratings

        1
        2

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember that but can’t recall the title. I’m glad the cast knew the rest of us loved it.

As I am bored and free now, I googled and seems like , not sure if it was the same time slot, but dramas that aired in the same period were: Kill me, heal me ( it was a hit, I remember), Pinocchio ( my favorite), and Punch ( I vaguely remember it was praised a lot), so no wonder Healer got a bit overshadowed. It was also the year I watched probably my first weekend drama – What happened to my family, didn’t finish, but watched more than half I think

            2
            0

Thanks for looking that up–helps narrow it down. Asianwiki lists the ratings for each show and it may have been Punch as it aired on the same days. Which, I understand now because Punch was quite the thriller.

As a test I just tried to access HEALER’s episode 20 recap (with my iPad on a motel wifi) and timed out. I did get access to the episode 19 recap. I hope the DB powers to be can find a way to speed up access for you to episode 20 so you can leave a comment. I came late to the comments myself. I know I am past 11,000.
However, I have noticed in general that it can be slow here trying to access posts with hundreds of comments.

    1
    1

20 times out for me too. I was actually around back then, commenting during the frenzy. It was insane! I just like to go back and check for new comments because I know a few people would go back. Did you ever listen to the Healer podcast that JB and GF did back then? I was working a graveyard shift so must’ve listened to it close to 10 times. DB is so slow to use now, it’s become almost too burdensome to use.

      3
      1

Yes, unfortunately it is indeed slow. Using DB somehow reminds me of using Nokia phone in the early 2000s. Remember how you typed a text message on such phone? 🙂 Or like reading on some first generation Kindle 🙂 Not exactly the same technically, but the feel is similar 😅 It is in contrast with the ease in using platforms such as facebook or instagram (I always laughed when they were referred to in kdramas as facenote and outstagram lol), but maybe that’s what makes DB more fun than the other platforms!? At least it is for me 🙂

        2
        1

I think even websites on dial-up would load faster than this, back when images would load from the top and sloooowly creep downward. 🤣 At least back then, there was some anticipation while I almost want to poke DB with a stick to check if it’s still loading. typing on those phones was a pain but good memories!
it’s pretty funny when kdramas will change one letter. I think I’ve seen Saver instead of Naver or something similar. I like the Beanies pages on here but sometimes I’m afraid to look through there in fear that I’ll step on a spoiler mine.

Arthdal Chronicles has become the most frustrating show I\’ve watched this year. I\’m in pain.

Crash Course in Romance will be the first currently-airing drama since Memories of the Alhambra.

Finished Move to Heaven and Racket Boys. Is Tang Jun-sang the star actor of this gen?

Have not completed a drama since 2019 it seems. What has been good? What is good to watch right now? I\’m lost. haha Working my way through Vincenzo but it\’s taking time.

Racket Boys got me out of my slump, hoping it can so the same for you

    6
    2

I second Mani Chan. Racket Boys is an adorable underrated gem. Do give it a try 🙂

      4
      1

I noticed that it’s the same writer as Prison Playbook so I’m surprised if not many people are watching. Have you watched Prison Playbook?

        3
        2

but with racket boys.. its more of falling for characters and tuning in for them..

story wise it is predictable even at episode level.. so relatively speaking, the “addictive” factor is low.. its more of comfort food than something you wait anxiously to watch

          1
          2

yea…The first episode was a pleasant watch. I think I typically care more for character-driven shows since I’ve had too many bad experiences with shows being addictive but completely failing at the end. I mean both are fine but you describing it as comfort food is perfect and I think it’s the show I need to end the day.

For some reason, I thought Hospital Playlist had the same writer but it was the director. What did you think about that one? The writer must be the new rising star. I started on Racket Boys today and already know I’m going to love it.

I enjoyed Hospital Playlist s1 and am also liking s2 but nowhere near how much I’m enjoying Racket Boys. There are a few hits and few misses in HP for me, but Racket Boys is all hits for me. So glad you are loving it already🧡

Thanks! I actually read through the MDL comments and found the answer to my question about awkward romance. Did you also find that they blended in the romance successfully?

Mad For Each Other and Move to Heaven are both very good shorter dramas that, along with Vincenzo, helped me get out of a huge slump.

So far my favorite shows of this year have been Mine, Move to Heaven, Hello Me, and Vincenzo!

My favorite since 2019 is DEFINITELY 2020’s Into the Ring/Memorials, though! 100% recommend for a delightfully quirky, one-of-a-kind drama. Nana is just absolutely fabulous in it.

    3
    2

Oh, I forgot about Law School!!!

      2
      1

I’m not sure if I like the genre for kdramas but I like the actor. But I’ll look into it since it seems that actor typically chooses great scripts.

        0
        0

That’s 2 for Move to Heaven! I think you’ve always have good taste in dramas, at least from what I remember long ago. Vincenzo is good but now I’m starting back at ep 2 since my memory is poor. What’s weird is that my brother, who used to make fun of Korean dramas, actually enjoyed it and recommended that I watch. It’s sorta what made me want to look for more shows…

I used to check Dramabeans all the time but none of these names are familiar. 😭 So ITR before Move to Heaven?

Kinda was cheating on Kim Jae-wook with Song Jae-rim last night. How do I resist a guy who makes his cat dance? Well…don’t worry…I have room for all three.

10

LMAO that’s such a normal cat-owner thing to do. (The cat looks like it will exact revenge for this embarrassment later.)

Every time Kim Jae-wook gives her that look and does that gradual smile, I swear I believe he’s in heaven.

Pretty sure I stopped breathing a few times this weekend. It’s a show I would recommend to anyone. Also gotta love the random bits of humor because man…is it intense.
I’m trying to avoid spoiling it for people who haven’t started it yet. Soon you will be hooked like we are, and you’ll be thanking us. haha

I’m pretty sure half of those hits were because he kept moving his head. It would be better if he had stayed still.
On the other hand, can’t really say that PSW didn’t enjoy hitting him, though unintentional.

P.S- maybe him getting hit here led to his cerebral edema in the other dimension? or am I thinking too much?

    4

I’ll have to go back and watch what HTJ was doing but thanks for pointing that out. I think KDC enjoyed it in a friendly way, especially since we’re now seeing them warm up to each other. That’s probably why I enjoyed it so much.

You’re right! We’ve already seen several examples of how his experiences in 1988 have some kind of effect on his condition in 2018. And vice versa. I didn’t even think about that. I think I’ll go for a rewatch heading into ep 6.

Thanks to those in “What we’re watching” that recommended Lawyerless Lawyer. Ten minutes in, he’s looking good and I’m laughing.

Hard to comment on a show like this. I like the remake so far.
One thing. We don’t need to see abuse/yelling to know it’s there.
Even the thought makes me sick.

This is all I need in this show to keep me happy. And that kiss. phew

I was skeptical at first bc remakes often fail. I loved the jdrama, especially the little girl. Of course, Lee Bo-young is perfect for the mother role, but I think I already like this child actress.

4
6

I can’t wait for this to start. I’m trying really hard to not get my expectations up too high but with this cast, director, and writer, I can’t help but be excited. This trailer just made me more excited. I’ll definitely be tuning in on Wednesday.

Same here. I know I shouldn’t expect too much already, but the trailer has got me so excited! Hopefully, it’ll be the first remake we can be proud of. haha

Wow! The cinematography looks great as well! Now, I’m undecided whether to watch this adaptation or the original first … Decisions, decisions … I’m torn!!!

    2
    1

That’s a good question. On one hand, I know it’s probably “proper” to watch the original first. On the other, I like to go into show blind. For me, it worked out because it’s been so long since I watched the Japanese version.
If I were in your shoes, I would probably just watch the Korean version since it’s airing this week. I am terrible. 😂😂 But I can’t squish in 2 dramas in such a short amount of time.

      2
      1

Thank you, @blo! You’re right and I will also miss the Beanies Wall’s energy/interaction if leave it for after I watch the Japanese. So I made my mind 🙂

I’m crossing my fingers for this to be as amazing as the drama remake Because This Life is Our First!!! ツ

        1
        1

haha I hope it will be a good decision. Or I’ll feel guilty. 😂 Either way, I think the Japanese version is still worth the watch, even after. 😂😂
          I hope so too!
