This is for my boi Rowoon. He has been amazing here, not that he wasn\’t before but I was super hyped for his first lead role and the acting(for that matter, every actor here did such a good job) was so good. I agree, he needs to work more on the heavy scenes but I am so proud of him. He deserves the world and this is just the beginning.
KIM RO WOON AND MY SF9 BABIES, FIGHTING. I LOVE YOUUUU!

Extraordinary You has ended and though there were a lot of things I wasn\’t satisfied with and wished that the show dealt with differently but I can\’t ignore the fact that I still wholeheartedly love the show! It could have been more amazing, I agree but that\’s okaay. Thanks for all the feels. Goodbye for now!

OKAY BUT WHERE TF IS SF9\’S OST? UGHHHHHHH! I AM SO PISSED!

Some people might not agree but Kyung\’s arc was always all about himself. He was only afraid of Dan oh dying because she would leave HIM alone. So I wasn\’t all that surprised when he \”killed\” her so that she loses her consciousness and that means *old, smitten with Kyung* Dan oh will be back and he wins idk. I knew this would happen when JMC revealed the new(wth show?) rule all of a sudden. I kept hoping for his redemption but seems like the writers are hell bent on doing him dirty. I don\’t have words left for him (Daebak for Jae Wookie tho, you are doing great sweetie!) anymore. I give up.

On the other hand, Haru and Dan oh have always been all about each other. I don\’t really know what to expect but even if Haru and Dan oh don\’t end up together, it\’s okay. Just let them live. Please. I have a strong feeling that Haru is going to do something really drastic and I don\’t want that to happen. Please writer-nim, let everyone live.

Yup – all of this. I agree. I’m just so unhappy with this amnesia trope showing up YET AGAIN. We’ve been through this with Haru.

Which was so painful. I can’t believe we have to go through this again. Still my obsessed ass can’t wait for next week. Don’t let us down, Show! We love you. Pleaseeeee!

Reasons why Haru >>>>>>> Kyung! Always.
EP 12 broke my heart. For real.

This episode wasn\’t as good as I had expected. The fact that Dan oh and Haru aren\’t doing anything other than making moony eyes at each other is getting to me too as much as I love them(and my boi Rowoon\’s swoony eyes)
We got some answers but the plot remained pretty much there. I am starting to get frustrated and I don\’t like it.
Haru needs to stop repeating \”I\’ll change your story.\” and actually do it.
Meanwhile Shadow Joo da is totally stepping up her game and is quickly becoming one of my faves.
And after all my Kyung rant yesterday, I have to say my heart hurt for him this episode. I still think he cares more about the set up than anything but the lonely look in his eyes whenever he saw Dan oh with Haru really got me this time(still not into the love triangle btw)
He looks like someone who\’s lost a dear friend just because he took that friend for granted (which is exactly what happened but) and I can\’t help but feel sad along with him. Oh Jae Wookie, why do you do this???

And and Do Hwa-ya, you deserve the world. Continue to be a meme material please. I love youuuu.

Also more flower scenes please! The boys look so pretty, I can\’t!

and they finally revealed that Danoh’s doctor is LDH’s brother..

which means, we may get a tragic story for Ju Da too (but her grand ma is alive right? so we may not)

Wasn’t it revealed already that Danoh’s doctor was Dohwa’s brother in the episode where Dohwa became self aware? It was revealed then.

        i missed that then 😛

then drama is really changing everything.. and not all for good.. the story hasn’t moved since last 4 episodes

No offense but some Baek Kyung fans are really whining out there about how they hate Dan oh and Haru for \”mistreating\” Kyung and this entire thing makes me so mad.

For the last time, y\’all can root for him as a character cause trust me, I do. I really want to see him evolve and become a better person. But stop shipping him with Dan oh. He doesn\’t deserve her. At all. Stop putting the blame on Her and Haru.
First of all, \”his father is an asshole and that\’s why he\’s like this\” excuse is bullshit.
Yes I agree, his father is a jackass but that doesn\’t justify or give him license to be a jackass to other people. Y\’all then come up with \”oh, he\’s just like that in the stage, huh.\”
No. He isn\’t. He is still a jerk to others in the shadow.
The fact that he knew about the comic world way before it was revealed to us(and Dan oh) but never really cared to apologize or talk to Dan oh about his behaviour speaks volume.
Other instances such as when Haru disappeared, Kyung had a golden opportunity to shine. But He spent half the episode yelling at Dan oh to stop crying over an extra. Only times he was sweet to her was the car scene and the swing scene and I started warming up to him.
With Bad Boy Haru\’s appearance, my affections for Kyung took a more solid shape. I was all for him when he got Dan oh presents and candies in EP 8 but then he made Haru come with the flowers and I realized the entire purpose of doing all this was not because he wanted to cheer Dan oh up, but because he wanted to rub it off in their faces that he\’s the winner now. I went back to not liking him at that moment itself and Gentle Haru\’s comeback really helped.

He could still have been sweet to Dan oh but he seems too obsessed with their set up- Dan oh should love him and Haru should be his lackey. And the entire cafeteria scene nailed it home. He doesn\’t care for anyone but his own set up. He enjoys being the superior character and when Haru defeated him in tennis, going against their set up(in shadow) he lost it, cause he can\’t accept that.
He can\’t accept his feelings for Dan oh cause he still believes it\’s her set up to like him and not the other way around when he clearly has some kind of feelings for her.

He is way too obsessed with being a main character than anything else. Perfect example is when Haru changed the scene in EP 10 with the watch. When Dan oh collapsed, though Baek Kyung had no idea Haru changed it and it was actually Sae Mi in her place, his first thought was not to worry about Dan oh or to help her, it was to show Haru that he\’s the main character and not Haru, really drives home the fact that he cares more about being a main character than anything else and wants everything to stay that way even in the shadow and just because it\’s not happening, he\’s angry all the time. It\’s not jealousy over Dan oh that drives his anger but this. That\’s why I can\’t. I just can\’t like him no matter how hard I try.

I really hope the drama writers give a legit redemption arc soon.

Lastly, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE LEE JAE WOOK AND HE SHOULD BE PROTECTED AT ANY COST.

It’s so difficult to carry my love for the actor at the same time as what should be my dislike of the character 🙁 You’ve done well!

I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said and, as someone who has wondered why Haru and Dan Oh are not more interested in other self-aware characters besides the both of them, I understand your frustration at anyone trying to justify his nasty behaviour.

I, for one, simply have more misplaced sympathy for him than I have for Nam Ju, for instance.

Also, it remains true that, in typical teenage self-centeredness, Haru and Dan Oh are so focused on themselves (individually and as a budding couple) that I can’t recall the last time they asked how Do Hwa was doing, like asking him if he still having a hard time playing second fiddle to Nam Ju for Ju Da’s affection? Why has Dan Oh not once wondered where Haru sleeps when she goes home to her comfy house with her dad?

    I digress…

My issue is that, instead of just calling Baek Kyung out for being a jerk, it would have been more effective to:
    a) read his side of the story, which they all have access to
    b) and then tell him that, in spite of his circumstances, being a jerk isn’t justified. Like, “I know your family situation is sh*tty, but hey, my fate is to be constantly sick and possibly die at any minute. I see where you’re coming from but Enough with the self-pity!!”

THAT, to me, would have been a better rebuttal.

    *shrug*

Also, let’s not praise Haru for that watch-switching moment either. That was pure male possessive ego as well. Sure, he’s a sweetheart, but endangering your girl’s health/life just to prove a point to Baek Kyung (that stare…) is also not the best demonstration of affection…

@kaleidoscope perfectly capture this sentiment in a comment dripping with brilliant Emma Stone sarcasm :

I don’t think it was Haru who put her health in danger. It was her stage. Haru just changed the watch. It was a little bit absurd I agree and probably the only scene I didn’t understand at all. And I agree with male possessive ego part, just that with Haru, it doesn’t show at all.

And it’s also funny how nobody said a word everytime Kyung did this entire *proving a point* thing to Haru(cafeteria scene, flower scene, and idk how many more scenes) but jump right on when it’s Haru (and he didn’t even do it) like oh, I can’t even laugh.
I really hope Kyung gets a character development but till then I will continue not liking him and still caring for him cause he still has chance. Peace out.

        ha ha ha ha
the fervor of this defense. one would almost think these people are real.

Kyung is a jerk. One could write entire dissertations about it. No one is denying that. As a matter of fact, we’re (unfortunately) used to it. So when Haru has an egotistic moment, given his otherwise sweet nature, it’s that much more noticeable. What can I say…

I get really carried away lol. Sorry if I hurt you, didn’t really mean it. I invest so much in fictional character, it scares me sometimes too.
Once again, sorry if I crossed a line.

I haven’t commented much on the drama, but I admit I get a little bit sad  inside when people trash Baek Kyung lol. I understand your frustration though. Perhaps some of the comments come from those like me who read the webtoon and loved Baek Kyung ever since. He was my favorite character there. A wonderfully complex character who started out as rude and insensitive but grew to have the best character development. And I’m frustrated with the drama writers for destroying all that. Webtoon Baek Kyung may be rude, but he was never violent and possessive. And his relationship with Danoh was never this bad. It was complicated, but they’re still friends who grew up together. They had the best and most poignant Stage scenes. I don’t know why the writers changed all these. I’m starting to think it’s because they thought Haru in the webtoon was less complex and perhaps even boring and they worried that people would prefer the other side of the love triangle, so they trashed Baek Kyung instead and made him as unappealing a romantic option as possible. I don’t understand because Rowoon is good enough as an actor and handsome enough to keep people’s attention on him. This frustrating love triangle is just unnecessary drama in a story that is already being overly complicated by the drama writers. It doesn’t help that this triangle has just become both trying to one-up each other. For a drama that supposedly makes fun of cliches, why did they have to put such an annoying cliche?

I remember Danoh saying something like “The writers must like Baek Kyung the most.” in the most recent episode and I had to laugh because it was furthest from the truth. The writers (and I mean the drama writers) hate him the most. If not, they certainly enjoy having him as their punching bag. Although I think they dislike Namju and probably Juda too because they weren’t this boring and corny in the webtoon. I’m not even hopeful for a good redemption arc at this point. There had been too many frustrating things already, and we still haven’t gone to the (unnecessary in my opinion) sageuk manhwa where Baek Kyung probably ended up a villain. A sadistic side of me is even hoping for a webtoon Dohwa ending for him.

I can rant all day about the changes they did in the drama. I’m sorry that this was mostly unrelated to what you said lol.

      Thanks for all this insight.
a part of me is glad I didn’t read the manwha. the (slight?) disappointment in the character development changes must be tough… ignorance is bliss?

      1

Disappointment is an understatement lol. The drama has lots of strengths such as the competent directing, a great main cast, and relatively cohesive storytelling (despite my anger with the changes in the story). I just hate how they turned a simple and emotional story without much cliches (even the Secrets story in the webtoon is engaging!) into an over-the-top mess with lots of cliches (seriously, what is the point of that unnecessary love triangle?) and more self-aware characters than it can handle. The webtoon’s not as addicting nor entertaining as the drama, but it had a lot of heart. It took a few chapters to really get going, but once it did, I was in love. Despite everything, the drama is still drama crack status for me, but I will forever mourn the loss of the characterizations and relationships in the webtoon. For a romance shoujo, the story, characters, and romance are pretty refreshing.

I hope you still read it! I would love to hear your thoughts on it. A lot of the issues you find frustrating aren’t present there.

I want him to grow into a better person as well. I want a legit character development for him and I really hope the drama writers have it in their mind as well cause otherwise it’ll be such a waste.

    *screams massively in agreement*

Look, I pity Baek Kyung’s set up too but he’s the only one (so far) who is self aware and trying to rile up/torment the others. That scene with Haru and the flowers…GAH!

The watch switching scene was…I dunno. I get he was trying to show Baek Kyung who is actually able to switch scenes whilst taking care of Dan Oh = this was disappointing because in the manwha Haru consistently puts Dan Oh’s care above all else (there’s a beautiful desperation about his caring for her that I think they captured devastatingly well in the scenes where he tried to run to her despite the constant ‘page’ flipping) – even if it means sending her with Baek Kyung because he can’t enter that scene.

I hope they don’t sacrifice too much of the relational depth (*coughBaekKyungcough*) for swoony romance.

But then again…don’t call him Roswoon for nothin’! *shrug*

The thought that Dan oh cried so much at the end of EP 10 not just because she missed Haru but because she now has a deep rooted fear of him disappearing again and that\’s probably what she thought when she couldn\’t find him anywhere, breaks my heart!

The BTS video of the kiss scene is so adorable, I can\’t. Ro Woon really loves teasing her and the way she reacts lmao! I don\’t remember the last time I enjoyed the BTS of a drama this much!

I am really curious about Nam Joo\’s Mom. Cause when Haru saw her for the first time, he seemed as if he recognised her. Same with Mi Chae, except he recognised her and his face went dark.
