Beanie level: Eunuch in drag

I can’t believe I am saying this but AengDu is my favourite cockblocker😂😂 And you can see DongJu rolling in embarrassment on the side

I’ve finally caught up with Tale’s of NokDu and these two are just so cute! I wish they will have a happy ending and walk on a flower path of happiness 😭

14
3

This show is cliche to the max and I love it. These two are the best, and, like you, I want them to walk on the flower path and will be so mad if they don’t get a Happily Ever After (although I have my doubts that the chaka-nim will oblige us). I also feel for these two, each with their own tragic pasts, and for the Queen. In addition to a flower path for these two, I hope Nokdu and his mother will be able to have the relationship that was denied to them by Gwanghae’s horrible (and, frankly, kind of stupid) deed 20 years ago.

    5
    1

I’m in such a pickle trying to figure out what road will bring them into happiness because once DongJu finds out NokDu’s father is the king, we know for sure she’ll run away again and leave NokDu in tears.

I really really really want a happy ending for everyone (including the king but not Grand Prince because he’s the devil incarnate)

      4
      1

Grand Prince Neungyang is irredeemable. As for the king, I’m not sure. He’s clearly conflicted, but he’s already done so much wrong to sate his lust for power that I frankly don’t know that he deserves a happy ending.

Dongju will run away if she finds out Nokdu’s Gwanghae’s son, but I’m also not sure how Nokdu will react if he catches Dongju trying to assassinate the king.

I love them and wish nothing but happiness for them… Today’s episode is my favourite not only for the fluff and funny but also for the emotional scenes😭 Poor Haru😭😭😭

    Poor Haru and poor Dan-oh!

    1

They deserve the world and more!☹️

      1
      1

The last half of this episode was very bittersweet. It was a good reminder of the fact that these two need to change the plot or else everything will come naught because of Dan-oh’s sickness.

        1
        1

I hope DanOh and Haru figure something out soon because my heart won’t be able to take it😭

If the drama Writer gives us a sad ending, I will not only be disappointed but will cause a riot.

Just realised I’ve been making a lot of posts about Extraordinary You but they aren’t as in-depth or as coherent as I want it to but it’s okay because I’m loving the discussions and am happy to be here

Is that the conniving Grand Prince Neungyang?

It is! He plays a huge puppy in My First First Love!😊

I’m huge fan of the actor (Kang TaeOh) and was so happy that he was playing the second lead YulMu but when he turned into the unpleasant Grand Prince, I’m just amazed he can be so… evil. I need to write a fan post about him asap😊

      1
      1

I watched Kang Tae-oh in a short webdrama about speed-skating. He’s a great actor and his performance as Neungyang-gun is an example of his skill. He and Jae-wook are doing a great job as villains!

        1
        1

They are! I sometimes forget that JaeWook is still a rookie with the way he’s playing his roles… A true testament of his talent😊

I said it in another post but SaeMi is very close to being self-aware if she can remember a conversation she had with DanOh in Shadows…

11
3

I guess every main character in Secret will get self aware at one point, probably Nam Ju later than all others.

    6
    0

Sae Mi is that kind of girl I should not like as well but she’s really nice with her bff Dan Oh……. and supports her on stage… hope she’ll be much nicer in shadow…

    4
    1

I want her to be nicer in Shadow too! She’s really nice if she(/ the writer) wants to be…

I think the actress playing her is doing a great job because I can’t seem to hate her character… It doesn’t feel like those 2D characters that just makes shrilling noises every time something goes wrong (although that’s literally her character haha)

      2

I’m getting very annoyed with Fairy… Stop hiding important information from all of us and SPILL!! Being ominous and suspicious with these things is not helping anyone~

12
5

It’s interesting how the his clothing has gone from white and light to all black even the lighting and tone around him has changed…

    7
    1

He is a little extra harsh to Baek Kyung. What if he created trouble in the Trumpet creeper manhwa?

    4
    1

I believe he might be… @joosushin pointed out that there is another character in “Trumpet Flower” that appeared with BOTH Haru and DanOh so maybe?

They definitely have some history and not a happy one.

I knew it! I knew that she’s becoming self aware but not entirely… And SaeMi said something that made me wonder if she’s self aware too. I think she remembered something that DanOh said in Shadow…

7
4

She is self aware.. they showed it today… when mom was talking bad about her shows

We got the same focus-out of focus shot that drama gives us when other self aware characters are having inner monologue on stage

    3
    1

I know JuDah is self aware. I was talking about SaeMi, DanOh’s friend who is obsessed with NamJoo!
When DanOh was super heartbroken about Haru not remembering her, SaeMi asked if DanOh’s “friend” is still having guy troubles (aka. what she thinks is Kyung). This happened during shadows!

      3
      2

I really can’t help but laugh every time I see him with a violin…

9
1

He’s the worst fake-violin player ever, but I wonder if he’s really that bad or if he’s making fun of the original terrible fake-violin playing in BOF.

The beginning of this episode made me cry and when uri DanOh started crying under that handkerchief, I started crying harder than when I can visibly see her cry. Please be more kind to her Writer-nim!

A friend of mine thought it was a good idea to bring me to a cat cafe and break the news that she started dating another friend of mine. Least to say, it was a VERY good idea. Enjoy this little cat that decided to take a nap on her lap for the whole 3 hours we were there ^^

@13infamyss I\’ve started Arsenal Military Academy and I\’m loving it! I\’ve binged until episode 8 and Gu YanZhen is my fave prick with heart of gold hahah I love that every time he tries to do something nice for Xie Xiang, he has no credibility because of all the times he was mean to her hahaha I’m enjoying it so much

4
18

Yay you’re watching!! 😍😍 Indeed Yanzhen is that man you don’t want to be working with, but he’s got a heart of gold… his heart that he’s put on a silver platter for her the moment he’s figured out who she is… Actually even before he figured out, there are times when he’s really nice and I liked loves him in those moments too. ie. When he took ownership of her suitcase during inspection. He was smirking at her, but he saved her from embarrassment and let him perceived by everyone that he’s got kinks. He is nice when he wants to and he is…. just everything! 😍

Totally swooned when he said his preferences in women changed!!!! Eeeeeppss! And how he’s cracking up when he first found out her real identity at the pub. Oh Yanzhen…… How can I stop talking about you and how swoon worthy you are.

    3
    3

Also his winks! You cannot not fall for his winks! The first time his wink stole my heart was when he got her “number 7” for her. Acccccccck. I need to stop typing…

      3
      2

Okay… I cannot stop typing….. but please tell me you loved this scene too because omg, I’m already on episode 26 and this is still one of my favourites http://www.dramabeans.com/members/13infamyss/activity/899531/

      Lolz I spazz hard…

      2
      1

He does a lot of things that made me swoon but episode 10 made me swoon a little harder.. I can’t-

      2
      1

Omg hahahha you’re already at that part 😂😂😂😂 Gu Yanzhen is…. yeah just one of a kind. It gets harder to explain him the more episodes you watch. His heart is just right there, out in the open, up for grab should Xiang Xiang wants it at any time.

Once again my one of my favourites was that pub scene where he’s just in the background getting a kick out of Xiang Xiang lying her way out of the situation, but he and his reactions are all I see.

Qu Manting will grab your heart as well in the later part. She’s so hilarious. The lack of reactions from Xiang Xiang, she makes up for it. Definitely Gu Yanzhen’s female version.

        2
        1

Manting and Yanzhen would make great friends! I love it whenever these two have a “moment”😂

          5

I love all their shenanigans! I won’t be shocked if there is a reveal that they’re long lost twins 🤣. I have to find time to gif her too and spazz about her, but yknow Yanzhen already takes up most of my time replaying, giffing, screencapping his scenes 😂😂

            2
            0

Now that’s a birth secret I wouldn’t mind to find out about!😂😂😂 And yes to GIFs of her!

Usually, spoilers have no affect in my drama watching experience but my goodness do I avoid any “official” materials related to Extraordinary You like the plague. Granted, I read the 1st Vol. & a little of Vol.2 but after watching the first premiering week, I figured that I’ll just enjoy the drama without comparing it to the source material. And it’s been so great. *hums to try and block out spoilers I see/hear on social media*

REMINDER TO FELLOW BEANIES- Please don’t spoil anything. If you are going to discuss a spoiler, put up a little warning tag so I can ignore it ^^

Also, Puppy needs to take that anger down a notch or a couple more. Why is he so mean? I get it you hate sick people because your mom but that’s just poor writing from the comic Writer… Why is he still mean in shadows?

13
9

His stage self trickles down to his shadowy self 😭😭 the preview looks promising though! Of his character change? Or do I just want to be delusional?

    3
    1

It seems like from the two characters that have become self-aware (other than uri couple and Fairy), their stage self and shadow self are pretty much identical. I mean, DoHwa is a cinnamon roll both on stage and shadow… Oh, I do hope his character will change otherwise it’s just a shame to waste this puppy with all this violent anger 😔

      4
      1

Agree, writer let’s not waste puppies. We take care of them, not let them roll by themselves.

        2
        0

The comic writer IS bad. Dan Oh even called it “sloppy writing”. XD

But as you ask – why is he still mean in the Shadow? That’s the drama writers’ job to explain, and so far they’ve thrown us more questions than answers. Plus getting Stage and Shadow blurred makes it harder for me to keep up with the twists and turns.

I just wanted Haru and Kyung to be friends. Is that so hard Writers? *cries*.

    5
    2

The comic writer’s writing is old fashion too haha

I’m in pain with all these questions but no answers D:

I want them to be friends too! I think Haru really cares about Kyung’s well-being (ie. last episode) but I think Kyung was being even more of a prick this time that Haru had to throw him in to pacify him

      2
      0

Yes please. Let them be friends.

      2
      0

    Poor writing.

    1
    0

I think he is mean because he’s hurting, and being mean gives him the illusion that he has some control. Hence the abusive boyfriend tactics he’s been using on Dan-Oh and the fact that he can’t stand to see her with another guy. The little bit of dependable information he had, the one thing he could reliably manipulate to his advantage is slipping away from him and that, compounded with the realization that he has essentially no free will has got to be terrifying. And since the writer has apparently not equipped him with a lot of compassion and social graces, well, I think he’s going to turn into the main villain of the story. (I kinda can’t wait for Lee Jae Wook to go full bad honestly. I think he’s going to be verrrrry good at it)
I also have a theory that it is difficult for more prominent characters to develop a shadow personality that is different from their off-stage personality. Baek Kyung and Do Hwa are both more important characters than Dan-Oh, which means the writer probably spent more time working on them, their background, their personality traits, their struggles, etc. which would explain why they are staying somewhat true to themselves even after they’ve awoken. Meanwhile, Dan-Oh was just a sick girl with a crush, without much more to her character, which made her basically a blank page, allowing for shadow-Dan-Oh to develop more of a backbone than stage-Dan-Oh. But my imagination is running wild with that show, so take every thing I say with a grain of salt.

He’s literally everything that’s wrong with young men. All rage and entitlement, no empathy or self-reflection.

So many cute moments for our couple this episode but this one definitely takes the cake! I swooned~ It reminds me of that jean pocket turn in the Netflix movie To All the Boys I Loved Before.

It’s been delayed, but movie 2 will be coming out next year, because one half of the writing team quit the job (she was a woman, being paid only a ridiculously lesser amount than the other writer who’s a male)

It feels like she knows something but isn’t fully aware. Why would her reaction be like this after DoHwa confessed to her for the first time?? What would happen if the main characters become aware??

11
12

It’s possible that she’s all weirded out because something is happing in shadow that doesn’t flow naturally as per script……

I don’t know if I want Secret leads to be self aware or not. Maybe I do……? But I don’t know. I do want all supporting cast and extra to form a great team against their supposed destiny!

    6
    2

Is it wrong of me to want to see chaos happen in Secret? I want it all!

      4
      1

I agree. Isn’t this the first time we’ve seen Joo Da in a Shadow scene? She feels safe in the script and this weirded her out.
Actually, I need help to figure out something: At the end of the previous episode Do Hwa and Joo Da were shown in Shadow, with Dan Oh and Kyung replacing the main characters on Stage. But at the start of this episode the page turned as Do Hwa and Joo Da were running down the stairs, as if they’re also on Stage! So I’m not sure what’s Stage and Shadow anymore #confused

      3
      2

I heard the page turn as NamJoo ran down the stairs looking for JooDah… I was trying to pay close attention to the flipping of the pages but the filters for when it’s Stage or Shadows are becoming very similar too…

        1
        1

Yes I’d have to go back again and rewatch this scene but I heard the page flipped too when Nam Joo ran down the stairs. So it was shadow scene again with Do Hwa and Ju Da then writer changed the script again. Instead of having Nam Joo tells everyone about his girl, he catches Do Hwa and Ju Da together and does not go full on territorial with her.

So shadow is Do Hwa’s confession because as he said the writer will not let him confess to Ju Da ever.

Stage is when Nam Joo caught them together and tossed her away. But their conversation was def not about Do Hwa confessing to her. But Nam Joo did figure out that his “bestfriend” likes the same girl that he likes.

          2
          1

After NJ told JD I like you, stage ended. But because BK & EDO stole the actual stage scenes, what happened b/w DH & JD was part of shadow even though it was during the stage time…. How do I put it? Its convoluted.

        0
        0

I don’t think she is aware. I just think her character is made to like NJ at all costs so when DH asked her out, she didn’t think it was right. Just like DO before being self aware liked BK but it was only after she got self aware that she realized she was capable of liking someone else.

    6
    1

I guess that makes sense… I might be hoping for too much hahah

      0
      1

Dont lose hope yet. There are 10 more episodes. This drama is so unpredictable. Juda and Nam-joo might gain self awareness one day and for sure it will be chaos as Squid Fairy feared.

        2
        1

I need that chaos! I would love to see the characters pull a W-Two Worlds and challenge the Writer.

          0
          0

Poor puppy got teary eyed. If Haru did not exist and Kyung was less mean (in stage), I would ship him with our DanOh.

13
14

Something about Kyung just rub me the wrong way. I mean Nam Joo is a jerk to Joo Da too, but I ship them. I have not warmed up to Kyung. Not sure why. Maybe because I got too much Cha Min Hyuk (WWWMMIL) vibe from him? 😋

    2
    2

But he’s not (yet) murderous here! The level of evilness in Minhyuk would be hard to beat HAHAHAHA

      2
      1

Gosh, I hope he didn’t turn murderous. I think that role is reserved for someone else (eyeing you Ji Mi Jae). I was referring to Min Hyuk meanness and his bulging mean eyes. 😁

        2
        2

I feel that because his “real” personality and his personality that the Writers created for him overlaps but not in the same way like DoHwa’s personality. He’s confused on why he’s acting so mean to DanOh when he really is nice… Or he just realised how great of a person DanOh is and is not just her sickness (damn Writers think being sick is a personality treat *shakes fists at the sky*)

      1
      1

I think you may point out the key issue here. With Do Hwa and Nam Joo, we get to see their nice side. Do Hwa with his amusement of being self aware, and Nam Joo’s grinning like a fool for Joo Da. But Kyung… he was either mean or confused. I am not even sure he’s naturally nice.

        1
        2

True… I guess we’ll have to keep watching to find out😉

          1
          0

All we’ve seen is that he’s always angry, grumpy, and sometimes even gets violent.

          2
          0

And he asked her to take back what she said! TT______TT

    3
    1

I think he’s just done way too much dumb shit to her to be forgiven at this point. The worst part was the conversation he had with Haru in the shadows, when he said he was just playing with Dan-oh. That was horrible.

    1
    1

I know! I was kind of disgusted with him when he said that. I still want a redemption arc but I don’t know if they’ll give him one (based on the preview for the next episodes..)

      1
      1

To be honest, if they give him a redemption arc, I would be okay with Dan-oh forgiving him but I would not be okay with her befriending him. I get forgiveness – people do bad things, even horrible things, but if we want people to be better, we need to be able to close the books at some point and say past misdeeds are history. However, I don’t think a person who wrongs somebody else can ask, as part of her forgiving him, that she not only bear him no ill will but that she bear him good will. That’s too much imo.
