I think he DID drive her up the wall sometimes! Haha, he was always so odd and polite. He lucky he cute, too.

But jokes aside, she was so patient and understanding of him (and pretty much everyone else, too) from beginning to end. Even though I didn’t like that she just disappeared, I understood why she felt like leaving was the best choice. I wanted for her to just continue to be her sassy self, hold onto him, and just see how far they could take it, but she decided to leave everyone and everything and that was just so sad. She was so patient, cool, and real, but she lost all that spark towards the end. Her deciding to leave was kinda outta character, but then again, a girl can only wait (and wait and wait) for so long. I really feel bad for Sunny. She went through so much pain and heartache all by herself (in both of her lifetimes).

True. I’m just happy Sunny and Grims got to live their last live together in the end and got their piece of happy ever after.

She said yes! I cried because this scene was so beautiful and satisfying. I lost it when Dong-man said, “I don’t know how to do flings,” because that was just so cute and honest. And I totally believe him, too. He’s always been all or nothin’. He may have been an idiot when it came to Hye-ran, but besides the annoyance I felt every time he took her back, I always felt bad for him deep down because this dude is such a genuine guy that he probably believed that Hye-ran was his one and only and if he were to let her go, then he probably wouldn’t find anyone that would want to be with him the way she did. I’m so glad he realized that’s far from the truth because Ae-ra has always loved and cared for him and he wasn’t gonna let timing (and his idiocy and cluelessness) take her away from him again. I’m so happy for these two for being brave and honest with themselves/to each other. Let the cute romancin’ begin!

I’m finally caught up, so yay!

And jsyk, that’s not the subs repeating “Let’s date” 3xs. That’s really Dong-man saying “Let’s date” to Ae-ra three. Whole. Times!

yessssssss. i love this too. for all the reasons you said. and i LOVE that he just left the conversation with hye-ran the minute he sae ae-ra walking off. like he knew what she was thinking and he wasnt going to let it go. love.

I wanted to say more, but decided to leave it out of the main post and talk about it here because I don’t want to focus too much on Hye-ran when the point of happiness is Dong-man and Ae-ra. Will not let Hye-ran soil my main post! Haha, jk, not really.

Anyways, I wanted to also add that in addition to feeling bad for Dong-man with his unhealthy relationship with Hye-ran, it also made me very sad. I didn’t like that he was almost numb to the way she (mis)treated him. I hated that she always kicked him to the curb and left him when she thought she found someone “better” and then came back to him when things didn’t work out. It was SUCH a vicious cycle and it killed him inside. It killed me a little seeing just how tired he eventually got of her and her antics. I’m glad we were even able to see that there were times when he didn’t give in or took her back right away. It reassured me that it did reach a point for him where he decided not to let Hye-ran continue to use him and do as she pleases. She’s toxic and what Dong-man did reassured me even more that he’s serious about wanting Hye-ran out of his life and Ae-ra all up in it. Hee.

I, too, LOVE that moment because it was just SO SATISFYING to see him 1.) NOT even LET her lips touch his, 2.) him pushing her off and away from him, and 3.) chasing after Ae-ra because gosh darn it, SHE’S the one he loves!

My goodness, didn’t mean to release all this on you! You don’t have to reply to it. I just wanted to share more thoughts on Dong-man and Hye-ran’s relationship and how it made me feel.

no no im so glad to read this. i feel the same–all the frustration you mentioned and also all the gratification at the end. in a sense, i feel like we saw him grow up in this respect. we’ve seen flashbacks that show hows he’s grown in his love for AR—from a child, in the epilogues–to caring a lot for her but still dating others—to this moment where he realizes that she’s the only one he sees. it was just so satisfying!! thanks for articulating it so well 😀

Aw shucks, I’m glad you feel the same and I’m also glad I was able to articulate my thoughts well. ☺️ Yes, I agree! Even though he’s a grown man now, we did see him grow up both emotionally and physically and seeing how far he’s gone and how much he’s changed (for the better), I’m so happy and proud of him! I love it when characters have romantic epiphanies! 💕 I’d like one of those. 😆

I very much appreciate this analysis. When I saw it I just saw him reacting to Hye-Rin and running to Ae-Ra. Of course we know (they both know) that feelings are there, but I hadn’t considered all of this. This makes me appreciate that scene so much more than I already had!

Aw, I’m so glad you do and I love that my thoughts and feelings about this show gave you a different perspective on it that you didn’t have before. That’s amazing. <3

I'm just really really happy that Dong-man is actively getting rid of the poisonous leech that is Hye-ran out of his life. As long as he and Ae-ra are officially together as a couple, idc what Hye-ran tries to do (I hope she doesn't do anything and just leave, but that's wishful thinking) because I know it won't affect the two anymore because they're in it until the end.

My favorite Super Hearing drama-moment was when Ji Hoo from BOF answered his phone with a motorbike helmet on his head. And no. He did not put the phone under the helmet. It was on top of it. And he still managed to hear the other person. Cause that happens in real life…

        1
        0
        1

Lololol! I think the sight of that is much funnier, just because, sometimes, phones are pretty loud and I can imagine still hearing the other person on the line if I placed it over a helmet. Not that I do that… it’s still a funny sight to see, though! Hahaha, I think it’s from the same scene, but I’ll always remember one of the NG scenes where Ji-hoo sunbae gets ready to drive away on his motorcycle… only for us to find out that he’s not even on one! He had the clutched hands in the air pose and everything!

I dunno, that helmet was pretty thick O.O But yeah it’s definitely even funnier visually!

I probably shouldn’t watch Forest of Secrets while I’m doing paperwork at the county and sitting very closely next to other people. Y’know, in case they look over and see a dead man lying in a pool of his own blood. And then probably more dead people.

      😄😄😄

Oh my goodness, THANK YOU for explaining that to me because I had no idea what was going on. I was just incredulous the entire time and found it to be the most funniest thing. Oddly enough, I didn’t doubt that it was an actual show and not a parody, I was just so flabbergasted at what she was doing but couldn’t look away. Lol! Omg, your explanation makes it funnier, but also very endearing!

      1
      0
      1

Despite being Indian & being vaguely aware of this show, even I thought it was parody! But nope.. it’s an absolutely imp moment in the show.. just when the candy is beginning to change the hero’s heart, she goes and does this! (& of course the laptop had super super imp & vitally urgent documents w/o backup on it)

It’s just soo insane but i guess for the makjang elements of the show – makes her act all the more dramatic ! Lol

My fav part is that not only does she wash it clean.. but dries the laptop on a clothesline!!! Pure gold!

        2
        0
        4

Bollywood dramas are always super makjang, I was obsessed with shows like Jyoti, Main Teri Parchhain (dunno if I spelt that right) Hoon, Kitni Mohabbat Hai, and Radha Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi but they all had like 1 million episodes and the plot moved at a snail’s pace.

          1
          0
          3

Woaaah!! You have great patience & high tolerance! I gave up on bwood makjang long ago.. when grandma watches, i join once in a month or so & can still follow the storyline.. thanks to the million episodes & snail’s pace.

The only show I enjoyed and managed to sustain the makjang in was Iss Pyaar ko kya naam doon (though i think it dropped even this somewhere around episode 250!). Have u seen this?

            1
            0
            0

Nope, I didn’t finish any of those shows because the channel I watched them just stopped showing them. I tried catching up via YouTube but I couldn’t remember what episode I stopped. I tried watching Bwood dramas recently and I realized how cringe they are.

            2
            0
            0

Gosh I feel you! They usually start with a decent premise but i guess the pressure of belting out 20mins of show everyday for years at a go kills the show.. cringe-worthy is exactly the word for it!

That was my major draw for kdrama – fixed short 16-20 hour format – so the story doesnt go berserk. Since kdrama addiction started, havent seen any bwood drama – srk movies keep me happy 😉

Omg, it just keeps getting better! Poor Candy. I kinda wanna know what happens next…

And lol, ikr!? She’s so committed, I love it!

          1

Lol! i didnt have it in me to continue watching it… this clip gave me enough incentive just to find out what in the world it was about. This series is called Saath Nibhana Sathiya (realize how difficult it’s to translate it’s name cuz of the cultural differences… something like “Do ur duty of being together O partner” but in a romantic sense- obviously im not cut out for the translating job!)

but warning you this show has something like 2000+ episodes and still ongoing i think!

Omg, WHAT!?! 2000+ eps!?! Ahaha, oh noes! They’re practically LIVING the show. Oh man, props to them.

Aw, hahaha! Love the rough translation of that title. Especially that last part–”O-Partner.”
You’ve probably watched enough Indian shows to recognize the tropes and themes, huh? Watta pro. 👍🏼😉

          0
          0
          1

Hahaha! They literally do live the show! Many of these shows go on to show stories of next gen and i think one of the oldest running shows which ran for close to 10 years (every weekday) had 3 & half generation story lines it covered with every makjang thing possible thrown in from birth secrets, amnesia, kidnapping, face changing plastic surgery, etc etc. It’s crazy.

In between it was a fad to introduce supernatural elements too.. so there was this show where our candy gets turned into a fly – a legit house fly by some evil-doers’s magic… & she even saves her family members from tragic stuff as a fly.. don’t even ask…

            I gave up long ago!

When he came to Korea to promote The Karate Kid I think (or was it After Earth)… They even had an interview together or basically these two interviewed him… All vague in my memory now as I must have seen that clip more than an year back..

Aww~ cute! I’m gonna have to find that interview later on. I loved Jackie Chan’s and Jayden Smith’s The Karate Kid, but I hear his other movies have been meh. I chuckled at the news of him wanting to be a K-pop star, though, that’s why seeing him with Yeo Jin-goo and Kim Yoo-jung makes it even funnier because I’m like, “This kid’s serious.” Haha. Anyways, thanks for letting me know!

Lol he sure is serious! Keeps talking about dropping a kpop single this year. I think the last time he went to Korea, he went to YG office and met some of the Big Bang and 2Ne1 members… Apparently he is a big time G-Dragon fan! 😛

HA, does he really!? That’s funny! And kinda cute. With how globally popular K-pop is now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made his K-pop debut. I could also see YG picking him up since he IS Will Smith’s son, after all. Plus, he’s been making a name for himself as a model lately, too. That’s cool that he’s met up with Big Bang and 2NE1!
