Beanie level: Errand boy

Anyone else watching Level Up. I don’t think I understand the female lead. Is she annoying? Self righteous? Cool? What is going on? Someone talk to me!

I just finished the whole thing. I liked it a lot, but I agree with you about the writing of her character. I think she was supposed to be a strong woman to create conflict with the strong male lead, but the writer didn’t quite pull it off. She was annoying and childish at times, and in the first half she had Go Ara levels of crying. It’s a shame, because I really like Han Boreum. Oh well.

Such a same because it did seem like an interesting plot. I decided I didn’t like her after all.

For those of you who understand Korean, is Sun Hoon speaking with an accent on Level Up? He sounds different

I am this close to dropping HDL. Nothing is moving plot wise. It is all the same and it is dragging on and on and the romance between the leads seem super forced. IU and YJG are both beautiful and are great actors but it is just not cutting it for me anymore. I don’t find any chemistry between them and they look like exactly what they are – well dressed undead ladyboss and human manager (who looks 20 years younger to where he should be). The whole tree connection and the triplet deity’s are not making any sense to me. It seems like everyone has an ulterior motive and I am too bored to figure it out on my own. Even the comedy feels flat. Ugh so disappointed.

See and here I was doubting again, thinking I was ALONE in my rants.
*I’m pretty sure it does have an ulterior motive and it kind of bugs me that nobody else is talking about how so much of it is as obnoxious as friq*

Same thoughts. The last 2 episodes especially dragged. Even the couple of seconds when Man Weol and YW in present day were looking at each other showed more chemistry than scenes between the leads.

I think I have seen the scene somewhere. And yes you are right! I have not watched ep 10 as yet!

As much as I love this drama, I’m not feeling the romance either. I would like it if they stayed that way (employer-employee), or someone who will let Man Weol move on. Plot wise, nothing too fascinating, just the same old template, which I’m not surprised given Hong Sisters. I’m not going to be surprised if MW dies too. But still, I love this show.

Visually it is stunning! But I realised the only thing I tune in for is to see what she wears next. How sad is that?

I’m staying for IU. Her expressions and outfit. Not to mention, her acting. I can’t get enough of her these days, which is why I’m staying.

I suppose MW would have to die. She has lived for 1000 years! Unless she comes back reincarnated but how old will CS be? 🤔 #pleasedontbelikegoblin

      1

Ugh. I rather not. I would accept an ending where she continues to grow old (as it was said that her time stopped), and dies. In the meantime, she can also grow old with Chan Sung.

So I feel nothing about When the Devil Hears your Name or whatever it is called. I saw ep 1 and then was ‘yeah whatevs’ Just me? Okay. Moving on.

Wow! How intense was this weeks episode girls @mayhemf @stpauligurl? I am loving CK more and more each week specially when he called out 321 for the way he proposed and the words he used. He even said ‘she is not yours and she is not mine either’ Damn! Sensible boys are my catnip!!!

I shrieked like a pterodactyl when clingy came on to the screen wearing her annoying bubble skirt! Take a hike lady and STFU!!! Hoping against hope that Weiwei or even Kefei would slap her back one day.

2
13

CK won me over with that line!

Also, did anyone notice that WW’s bangs are pushed aside now that she is seeing things more clearly. And she wore different shoes. Finally.

    3
    2

I tell you those bangs are everything. Sweep them off the forehead and it is a new you. Boys, girls, ahjussi, ahjummas, it effects them all! Keep ‘em off!

Yes those hideous shoes are gone!

Ps: I forgot you were watching too. Here is me tagging you to the original post 😬

      3
      1

Ha ha. Yes that happened last episode. After she returned from a Shanghai. She got those black sandals and bangs are gone and is using Kefei’s rid lipstick. She is looking gorgeous!!

      2

Oh my. Subs are done. Wait wait. Coming to join soon after I finish watching :)).

    2
    0

It was good and I haven’t finished watching it with subs! Friday night was raw then Saturday morning at 46%. When I get home tonight I’ll finish it.
CK has really grown through the series and just gets better. But I’m enjoying how WW is getting stronger at standing up for herself. I noticed the bangs and shoes too.
But I also noticed that the only time she smiles and laughs any more is when she is with CK.
Can 321 and clingy just go away together somewhere?

    3
    0

OH MY!!! that was major drama this episode. All hell broke loose.
I cringed so bad when 321 came to propose to office. This is exactly why she dumped you dude. You do not see things from her perspective. You started a chain of events and made a mess of her professional life.

And am so glad CK called him out about the proposal. It was not one. It was just pressuring her to marry him.

That last scene was everything. I can completely root for these two now. Those two sitting in the park and laughing about this.
Yes!! It doesn’t matter. Yes, s*** happened. So be it. They will be ok.

I love how much they both have grown.
Even though CK seems to infringe in her life and is relentless, he is not disrespectful. Situations keep happening and everyone is acting with their emotions.

Where do I even begin about Clingy. I want sometime to slap some sense into her. Really? That’s her problem. And 321’s. They think their relationship failed due to a 3rd party and are not able to see their own drawbacks. That’s why they are exactly the same from episode 1!!

Can we have some happy moments please. Only one more episode but looks like we will get more office politics :((

    2
    1

Yes it was a good episode. Mostly what I loved was how WW would smile and laugh around CK – like she does with NO one else. That says something.
and again with Han Kafei – if there was EVER an ultimate best friend – she is totally it. Enjoying how DaWai is coming around too. He is such a doofus – but still clueless and sweet in kind of a dumb way.

      2
      1

Remember this friend CK had in the earlier episodes. He was his boss but they both had some friendship too. But then CK dumped him when he knew his loyalty was with Clingy. CK was very much alone when he was with her. He couldn’t even have his ‘own’ Friends. That’s how much she controlled his life.
So I kinda like how he is warming up with Kefei too.
Dawai has been dumb from the beginning. He has been acting like an ass because he is stupid and can’t deliver at work. Not sure I like him yet. But I think he is learning a thing or two hanging around with Kefei and others.

        3
        1

I don’t think Dawai has in him to deserved someone like Kefei. Girl is a dynamite! A fiercely loyal good dynamite friend and person 😃

          2
          1

he needs Kefei to grow up. I think they have good friendship potential. May be friends with benefits is what Kefei would want :))

First thoughts on Rookie Historian:

Episodes watched: 5

Thankfully for a sageuk the political shenanigans are on the low. I am loving our band of female historians and I am patiently waiting to see if the feisty historian (not GHR) is evil or nah. Her ‘hand touching’ scene with the crown prince was an ‘aha something is happening here’ moment.

Speaking of the Crown Prince have we ever seen such a lovely big brother? He is not the jealous manipulative kind and seems to genuinely care for his people! I am rooting for him.

The most…cough…boring…cough…character is our Prince Dowon, unfortunately. The only interesting thing about him is he is a wannabe romance author but I feel he is not really pulling his weight. Acting wise. And also why is he separated from everyone in the palace? Do we already know? Have I not been paying attention?

In re to our heroine, I like her. She is…umm…okay. I mean we have seen a lot of feisty females in period dramas. So nothing new here.

Hey, Ren, so I followed you. What happens next? Do I get to see what you like, and what you post? I’ve followed so many beanies, and I’m still in the dark as to what they do.

The follow system does nothing so far. I don’t even get notified (on email) when the Beanies I follow post/comment or do anything on DB. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Exactly. It’s been so long. Guess it’s just a number to notch up on our long climb ( I’m talking about years here) to the top. Yeah, speaking as a forever errand boy stuck in the rut.

Perhaps you need to take another starring role in a drama. Man Wol’s (IU’s) fingernails?

          3
          1

Oo I was thinking of watching the show, but I have so many shows to catch up on, and I don’t even know if Mother in Mother of Mine has more problems, after forgetting about the drama for almost three weeks. And I need to watch A Moment at 18. And Stranger Things. And Rookie Historian. The visuals are gorgeous, and the hanboks are so pretty.

It took me 7 episodes to finally decide YJG was definitely not the right fit for the role. And also what is his role really? I know he is meant to ‘save’ MW but how? Am I too impatient? I feel no genuine chemistry among the two. I’d rather have the Captain come back with his face (even though I hate all the reincarnation bullshit!)

IU is doing a fine job though. Her wardrobe is beyond AMAZING and I am throughly enjoying her acting. Now, SHE is a good fit.

Anyway I am just watching to count how many outfits she changes in one episode and those little ‘ghost whisperer’ type stories…nah I change my mind. I am watching just for the clothes. The clothes.

7
9

I’m enjoying YJG in this role and the story (so far).

The wardrobe is a star in itself. I’d like one of everything please as well as the full time team they must have for her fingernails.

This role was really made for IU, wasn’t it?

    6
    4

I personally find that the age difference between the actors plays perfectly into the story. In some scenes (goodbye, KCS) he looks much younger than her — innocent of the cruel ways of the world — while she has this old-soul, harsh edge to her that completely embodies where their stand in the world… But as they start bickering all of a sudden they look a matched pair – he looks more mature, she younger somehow. It’s kind of magical.

[Or maybe the ghosts have wrecked my brain… unused to hold so many unpopular opinions on DB… I start to question why this works so well for me while many people whose opinions I respect hate it.]

    9
    3

Lol, oh that feeling when you are watching something because you truly find it fun or entertaining and then realize everyone else is hate watching.

      6
      0

Aww. Don’t feel bad! Not everyone has to agree. We can still be friends with different opinions 🙂 I am not hating it really. Ep 1 gave me the Adams Family vibe and I loved it! It’s just that it is not making me super interested anymore. Like I said I concentrate on the clothes and play games on my phone for the rest of it 😬

I know exactly what you’re talking about. Once he lowers his pitch and starts reasoning, she kinda shrinks a little 😂.

I love watching the two of them on screen and apparently so does most knetz and (older) cnetz. You have plenty of company.

It makes me super uncomfortable when people are cast in romantic lead roles with massive age differences. I like both of them but definitely not together.

8
17

Is this like the biggest age gap since Goblin… it might be…

    4
    2

This one is actually bigger! 13 years! Goblin was 12! Goodness.

      2
      4

        Wait REALLY?!! Scheiße.
I was about to be all like “I don’t MIND age gaps if they can act older and it’s not noticeable”… but no I’m pretty sure this one will be noticeable.
        An odd casting choice.

        3
        0

Why? I mean why? There is no dearth of dramas or actors, why do people get casted like this.
She looks a kid. Its hard for her to pull off a 28 year old.. she looks like a high schooler to me.

        2
        1

If it’s any consolation..the age gap between Yi Do and Ye Rin in Perfume was 14 years. Lol

Before it aired, I was kinda bothered by the age gap, but when I watched the drama I did not see or feel the age gap between them. Their characters actually complement each other. That and also because of the drama plot itself. It was a story about 40 yo Jae Hee (Ha Jae Suk) discovering herself and basicly a noona romance with a twist. The main romance was between Jae Hee and Yi Do.

I do think acting also plays a huge role in making an age gap work. GWH was so good at acting like a 40 yo in a 23 yo body. In addition to that she blended in with any age group. I also thought both GWH and HJS look similar, they synced their acting, so in my mind Ye Rin was always 40 yo Jae Hee.

        2
        2

SSR is 36, Won Hee is 24, so it’s actually only 12 years irl lol.

I agree that it definitely can work. Sejong was 7 years younger than her counter part in School 17 and those two were great together. I’m not a big noona romance fan but PSJ absolutely sold his performance in Witch’s Romance and the chemistry was amazing.
And honestly maybe it’ll be fine, maybe Sejong will be good enough to make it work, and make her role believable, we can only wait and see.
But sometimes I still scratch my head over casting decisions.

          1
          2

Heh! I just calculated their character age 🤣.

I sometime scratch my head over casting decisions too. I do have plans to watch this drama, I’m interested with the orchestra part. I haven’t seen Sejong in her other dramas, but I only saw praises for her acting. Maybe she’ll do just fine in this. How much is the age gap between the characters?

            1
            0

I’ve only seen Sejong in School 17 which I think was her only other main role, and whilst she was good in that, it’s like nothing to judge by.
13 years, as Ren mentioned above. 22 vs 35.

            1
            0

I haven’t seen perfume so I can’t really tell 🙂 Yes if the actor is good they could perhaps pull off acting older than their actual age. But sometimes (most of the times from my observation) the age difference shows regardless of the actors acting prowess. YJG is an amazing actor yet he feels out of place in his current role as the Harvard educated Hotel Manager in HDL. He exactly looks like the 22/23 year old that he is.

          1
          0

        Seriously?
I dont even buy Goblin relationship so yeah…nope
        Thank you, next~

        3
        0

Still not as the age gap between Uee & Lee Seo Jin for “Marriage Contract”— there’s was a 16/17 year age gap irl (the drama only made them 7-8 years apart by downing Lee Seo Jin’s age)

      1
      1

Now that I think about it both of them played their drama age really well on MC. It did not seem kiddy pornie at all. Good actors.

        2
        1

1996 – 1984 = 12 years he was born in July, she in August.

    0
    1

12 years and 1 month lmao idk why but I find that hilarious

      2
      1

It’s still less than Edward Rochester and Jane Eyre = 18 years age gap but at that time it was normal.

I wouldn’t find myself attracted to older man now but at 15 I was. Not as old though but that’s hormonal and at 15 girls are more mature than their male counterparts.

Impatiently waiting for Before We Get Married to get subbed!

It will be done by the morning! This drama gets subbed really fast.
    Can’t wait for the breakup!

I have no patience and watched it raw. So then I’ll watch it tomorrow when it’s almost done being subbed. I’m so proud of Wei Wei and Che Kuan is da bomb!!
and that is all I’ll say for now…

    2

Ah you gurl!! I shall patiently wait for subs. Looks like subbers took a chill pill this week.

I’ve tried that and no other site is subbed until Viki is done.

I watch HDL for pure fun. I could watch those little stories of ghosts finishing their unfinished businesses, forever. It must be nice sending someone over to the other side at peace.

@mayhemf and @stpauligurl Why isn’t she breaking up with 321? Why? Why? Why? And now she is a cheater….ugh

2
16

I give you kudos for sticking in as long as you have. For the past 2 episodes, I’ve skipped to the previews at the end to see if I should keep watching. This drama had potential, and it just, dragged.

    1
    1

I think after this week, I’m done. At this point I don’t even care if she ends up with Ke Huan, I just want her to definitively dump 321’s selfish ass.

And get some new shoes. Why does she always wear those white loafers?

      3
      2

I prefer this to Korean dramas where penny pinchers wear branded shoes costing $$$$ to match each attire.
        p.s. I hate those shoes btw ; )

        2
        1

Me too! I think that’s why I notice them, or are they making a point to make them noticeable?

          1
          1

Also, you can’t run with those shoes. You have to take them off!!
I think it may be symbolic? 321 is the white shoes or her old self. And the new pewter heels is KC or her new life?

            1
            0

LMAO on the shoes. But I do actually like that she ‘recycles’ her clothes. You don’t see that in a kdrama or a Cdrama(?)

        2
        0

I think she isn’t breaking up because she needs to be right in her decisions. Maybe she’s uncomfortable admitting she’s wrong and is one of those people who have to be hit over the head to admit her mistake.
She was close to cheating – and realized that she does have some morals and wouldn’t let herself go any further with Ke Huan. She probably feels really guilty with what she’s done so far. But damn she’s been lonely as a result of 321’s inabilty to share his life with her because of his so-called plan and he was this way at the beginning of the show.
I know it’s been frustrating to watch – but she will have to completely fall apart before she admits she needs help. Many people are like that – the world is black and white and it’s hard to make out the pieces that are grey.
Now I make decisions quickly and mostly because I’ve learned to trust my gut, but I also know those times of being soooooo tempted and barely holding myself back from something, only to be force to admit that it isn’t good for me.

Wei Wei is now showing all the signs of breaking and cracking at the seams. It doesn’t help that 321 has been mostly absent. Something tells me that even if Ke Huan wasn’t in the picture she’d be cracking like this because she needs that stability in her thinking.

Unfortunately I know some of this from experience that comes from getting older.
Now I don’t condone cheating – NEVER- but 321 has essentially left the relationship when he went to Shanghai. They both now need to see it for what it is.

The person who makes me nervous is Ms Clingon and what she was trying to say about that abortion years ago. Is there some information that will make Ke Huan change? I don’t think so – but he ultimately is a caring person.
Nuf said – off my soap box, and now waiting until Friday.

    2
    1

Not close to cheating. She cheated. Kissing another man while wearing another, albeit selfish, mans ring is cheating. Poor girl. I feel bad for her.

      1
      1

You know I was thinking about this and woke up wanting to reply @coffeprince4eva – you are right, her kissing him was cheating. I think I really feel for her and don’t want to think of it as cheating. But she IS still in a committed relationship with 321 – even though it seems he isn’t.
It is kind of hard to think of it as cheating when she is essentially living alone.
But yes, you are right and I stand corrected – and I’m like you in how bad I feel for her pain and conflict.
        Watch on!!!!!

        1
        1

Haha. Same. I feel very bad for her and I completely understand how drawn she is to KH. BUT 321 still exists. He is still around and she needs to kick him to the curb and lead her own life with her own plans.

          2
          2

Sometimes I wonder if she was indeed in a relationship with 321. 3 years and even her best friend didn’t know. They met only over weekends. Shared a meal, cut coupons, scratched receipts.
She kissed KH and realised she cheated and after that point she became super alert. She tried her best not to let her guard down. At least she tried, I will give her that. It’s consistent with her personality.
The more I think about it, the sooner I want her to end it with 321. I don’t care of KH is the end game or not. She needs to figure out her life and what she wants.
This house and finances are going to be a big mess when separating – they were not married but made join financial investments.. arghh.. not looking forward to Ep 10!

            1
            0

You hit the nail on the head about this relationship with 321 @mayhemf!

I’d forgotten about the beginning of the show when they were a secret and only saw each other on selected days. Since the beginning he has controlled the relationship.

I can’t WAIT until she kicks his butt out the door. Dividing the property will be a pain to be sure – but her best friend will have her back as will KH – at least he will try. But I bet when she wakes up – her attitude will be “I’ll take care of this myself” thankyouverymuch.

Her feelings have been so confused, but she is finally waking up and she will be even more of a force to be reckoned with!

            1
            0

I think she was with 321 because he gave her the stability – it was a simple dating process, they spoke about their future together and made plans. She wanted to get married and have a simple normal life.
She even went along his plans because she did not have other ideas.
It’s taking her time to realize this is not what she wants. Also KC coming into her life made her want more. She wants more than ‘plans’. She wants ‘love’ and ‘passion’. She has invested 3 years of her life with 321 thinking this was the end game. Suddenly, it feels wrong.
I like that she is taking the time, but not that she is rushing into marriage. She needs to buy some time and see if this is what she wants in the relationship.
It gets worse. 321 really hits low. I want to smack him.

yep- to all you wrote here @mayhemf.

Now that I think about it I think she doesn’t need to be with anyone right now. Not KH and definitely not 321. Girl needs a clear space to decide on what she really wants. It is terrible to be in love with someone you ‘shouldnt’ be in love with and I think it is the guilt that is holding her back.

      2
      1

yeah.. she is guilty that she is almost cheating on her fiancé and she likes a guy who is in a 10 year relationship with her school mate. She is trying to think for everyone.
She needs to be a little selfish and put herself first.

Am watching it. Am waiting for subs for episode 9!
Tag me when you discuss it. Will join once I finish.

Just finished it RAW – aagugugugughghghghhghghgh – that ex is so horrible! I don’t know what she said at the party or what her medical issue is but she is pushing so many buttons.

On the other hand that scene at the beginning when she finally gave in…. Whoa – even I needed a cold shower!
However he is proving to be such a gentleman that I can hardly stand it and apparently she is feeling it too!
She is finally realizing what she needs to do with 321 – but he needs to be in town and present for her to break up with him! What a putz – it looks like he keeps calling to say he can’t come home. yeah right.

I could go on, but I’ll wait until tomorrow and watch it with subs.

wait….the ML is a gentleman? I put this show on hiatus after ep 4 or 5.

Yes ultimately he does back off and slow down and starts to respect Wei Wei’s wishes. He really does.

        2
        0

I haven’t gone that far (just on ep 2) but I do hope the main lead shows that he is a gentleman. Ep 1 and 2 didn’t help with that aspect 😬

      2
      2

Yes he was a jerk in the first two episodes but he changes over time.

I dropped this drama after episode 1. But material picked it up after seeing some comments on DB.

He does tone down a bit after the first few episodes.

I mean none of the characters are perfect. They all annoy us to some degree (some very much!!). That’s what makes this drama interesting.

Met a friend for lunch today (Friday). Our conversation:

Her: So what have you been up to this week?

Me: Cried myself to sleep each night….

Her: Omg! What happened?!?!

Me: I watched Marriage Contract….

Her: What is tha…? Hey are you crying?!?

Seriously! I sit with family or friends and keep wondering how they can sit still and chat while such and such is happening in a show I am currently watching! Dramas take up such a large portion of my mind!

    9
    1

What is so hard then, is trying to explain what is going on in the plot without sounding like a nut job. I mean, contract relationships, perfume that changes your body, time traveling, rich chaebols switching bodies, piggyback rides, fists clenching….
It’s so hard to describe the draw of these dramas to someone who hasn’t experienced it.
      sigh.

        LOL Joining in the sigh!

Not even that but I was explaining Watcher to a co-worker and he was probably so confused why I’m into a show about Internal Affairs (context: I made it sound like your average CSI type of show and that’s not good 😂).

        5
        0

I can never explain shows well and so now my friends think all I watch is dramas about food and the occasional thriller.
I have yet to tell them about go go squid.

I feel ya! I was telling a friend about You Who Forgot Poetry today and was teary eyed while I did so.

    Have you finished Marriage Contract?

I have! I still have the sniffles 😭

Aw, you did it! I still get quite emotional when I think back to it. I remember it as heartwarming. What did you think of the ending?

I am composing myself to get ready to write a love story about it in my wall. The heart is still tender 🙁

Viki recommended me C drama Before We Get Married. I clicked. It’s about glorified cheating. So much crack! So much. Dowajusilleo!!

2
2

Well not so much about cheating as being honest with how you feel and what you want.
In my opinion neither one of them cheated – except maybe one kiss.
It takes him a while to finally end his relationship with his fiance and now she is coming to the same realization (at least I hope that is what will happen) and let go of her fiance.

Believe me, I’m not a fan of cheating in any form – but they were both in such distant relationships to begin with. (sounds like I’m justifying it doesn’t it? – hmmm)

Anyway it is one reason I look forward to Fridays – but hate that it’s only one episode a week! Beware!!

What I did last night:

Went under the blanket (it’s winter here). Plugged my headphones into my phone. Clicked on Netflix. Clicked on Marriage Contract. Cried a lot.

I think on some level I’m mad at that show for not being fluff. It’s the first time I’ve been mad at a show for being good.

And Uee is AMAZEBALLS. Goodness I felt tear she shed. Each and everyone.

I’m afraid to watch it. I know it’s gonna be good, and I know it’s gonna rip my heart out, so maybe I need to do what Ren did.

Yes the confines of the blanket helps with the sobbing.

It’ll rip your heart out in all the best ways but I thought they did a great job with giving the : ‘live your life to the fullest’ message.

Started Marriage Contract on a whim on Netflix. This is my first time watching Uee on screen and I can’t help but notice how much she resembles Nam Joo Hyuk! I mean they could easily play siblings!

I honestly feel like it’s Uee’s best work to date in her acting career 😊😊 And there’s no doubt that Lee Seo Jin is good— I’ve felt that he’s somewhat held back in some of his previous roles and never let himself go too, too far in letting all of his emotions flow out, but not here!! He really let it all out in “Marriage Contract”

is that a complement to Uee or insult to NJH 😛

Eeeep enjoy! I usually don’t like this kind of premise but I loveee both leads so I gave it a try. Made me cry so much, of course, but it’s such a nice drama, it was worth it. I even rewatched it a couple of times (risking getting dehydrated!).

She’s stunning in this drama. Her styling is amazing, and you can see her performance experience is being utilized well in this character.

Jin-goo…..well, I think he might be too young for this role.

Empress Ki ended on a high note for me. Maybe I am biased when it comes to a drama centered around a strong female lead, but I throughly enjoyed the amazing twists and turns of the politics in the palace, which is very unlikely for me. I liked that there were no ‘definite’ male lead. Even until the end she was torn between the two men that she loved equally. We all know her soulmate was Wang Yoo but circumstances and the Emperor’s weakness proved how much she was needed in the Emperor’s life. She needed to be there for him.

Compared to Wang Yoo, Te Hwan was weak and timid and he never really became the fierce warrior that you would think you would see in a drama. His character was deeply flawed and I absolutely hated him but now that I have finished it, I am glad he didn’t really have a ‘redemption’ arc. He was not evil but he was not good either. Basically his every immature decision centered around his obsession with Nyang and I really applaud her ability to stand by his side. Please don’t think I support an abusive relationship because under no circumstances was our Nyang repressed or abused. The girl held her ground and was her own person.

The ‘villain’ Tanishiri will probably go down in history as one of the most wounded characters ever. I could never really hate her even with all her evil deeds. I understood where is all stemmed from and at times I felt like all she needed as a ‘hug’.

General Taltal was the other shining character that I ended up admiring. Sometimes I wanted him to run away with Nyang and forget everything else.

For a 50 plus sageuk, Empress Ki was a good one time watch. It kept me at the edge of my seat with the nail biting conspiracies and back stabbing. And how can you not admire Ha Ji Won? That girl is a badass.

Which ending did u watch? You know there was 2?

    1
    1

What?!?! Netflix has just one!!! The one where *spoilers* Te Hwan dies in her arms and she escapes with her son to the North, which is the start of the north yuan dynasty or something. Taltal is dead. What is the other ending??

      1

If you saw her deciding if she wanted to ride with WY or TH, that’s the unfinished but originally broadcasted ending. If you saw her riding on the beach with TH, that’s the corrected rebroadcasted version.

        Here’s a comparison: http://couch-kimchi.com/2014/05/07/empress-ki-mbc-makes-changes-in-rebroadcast/

        1
        2

Netflix has the ride with TH only version.

I am searching to see the other ending because I think that ending would have been better. Her deciding who to choose.

          0
          1

Nah, it reduced her life to a love triangle. The new ending is better IMO. Love was no longer the topic, which shouldn’t be since she confessed her love to TH at the end. If she was still swaying back and forth, then her confession is lie said out of pity.

            1
            0

But she did love them both though. I am sure she thought of ‘what if’ if she had ended up with Wang Yoo. It is probably possible to love two men at the same time. I don’t know

          0
          1

I believe the story was she loved them equally but not simultaneously, because then it’s two-timing, not how writers in SK would depict their heroine.

            1
            0

when I first finished the show I absolutely hated TH too, mainly because I felt that WY had such an unfair treatment (I remember ranting about this on every kdrama site possible), and after a few years now I still hate him too (I tried not to, I really tried)

    2
    1

Yeah I never loved him. He seemed like a coward who was sitting on the throne and did not deserve the respect and reverence bestowed on him on a daily basis. Plus his ‘love’ for Nyang was borderline obsession. But I liked that that’s how they portrayed him.

      1
      0

Imo Nyang loved both men in different ways: Wang Yu as her first love and Tae Hwan as a slow burn on her part.

Tanashiri forged my forever love for Baek Jin Hee. People who weren’t satisfied with the love triangle became Team Taltal. I personally admired his loyalty.

A solid start for Hotel Del Luna. IU is amazingly perfect. I really don’t want to get my hopes up but I couldn’t be any more happier with the start! Ep 2 please come quicker.
