Beanie level: Rooftop room dweller

LYOL 39
Wow, a reveal I didn’t expect AT ALL!!!
So… who is whose father???

4
2

    And the mother…. ?
    And Tae-hui’s parents ?

Round up the possible parents …
We have the dead couple. 🤔
    We have Madam Jang 🤔
    Mr. Chairman Kang 🤔
    Mr. Yeom 🤔
Some other character we have yet to see ? 🤔

      I’m hysterically laughing here 😄😆😄

Queen of Divorce 1
I expected comedy, but the setup was much more serious (and with a side of murder). The first minutes though do promise some fun in the future. With Kim Sun Young. 🙂

I always enjoy Kim Sun Young in any drama she’s in. She really crafts interesting characters!

I had to go back to check the genre – DB says action, comedy, legal. MDL has romance instead of legal. I don’t mind lack of romance but somehow I’m not feeling it … yet! 😅

      1
      1

Ha, based on the first ep only I wouldn’t use romance tag. Yet. It looked more like taking-down-my-awful-MIL-together-with-my-scumbag-(ex)husband. (And fighting for my child they took away from me.) The trendy ex-wife revenge, minus second life. 😁

        2
        1

I’m sorry, did you say MURDER???

All these fun posts about Marry My Husband have me tempted!! I think it’s made its way on to my watchlist for later..

    2
    1

I’m surprised how much I like it.
I had very low expectations, but the acting and directing is great and I find nice also the webtoon vibes.

      1

Chaebol 1
Much better than I expected.
It makes me laugh (I liked that car key collection with the model cars 😄) and yet there are glimpses of depth… and sadness.

5

He ends up sad in a pool again soon. No joke.

However, I have something else to report to you @dorotka!

I really was supposed to be writing for work today, but instead caught up on my “have I dropped this show” episodes. Episode 36 of LYOL had me TOTALLY GRIPPED and there was almost ZERO Tae-ho.

Tae-min was great. All the brothers were silly. The mom is having a redemption arc of some type…then at the end TWIST TO BRING IT ALL DOWN!!!

What a ride, even just for an hour.

    1
    1

Oooh, so you are back with LYOL? 🙂
      It’s a ride now, indeed.
Taemin was not too nice the previous episodes, but he was beautifully tragic in E36. 😁

      2

I liked the first episode! I liked the art style and colors, and I liked the slick vibe. I just want it to be the Numbers of cop shows, ya know? 😂 Although I’m ready to nope out at light-speed if it gets too violent for me 😅

Slump 1
Hmm, so far I’m not very excited about this – truck&zebra crossing, family fights&brother slacker, suspicious anesthesiologist&court&debts, abusive prof…
Positive: Yoon Park. 😁

Re: Slumptown… me neither, and I’m really sad about it. On the other hand FxC has my full attention???

Yup. Might have only been because it was late, but I enjoyed FxC! I came in with very low expectations as well.

        1
        0

I can’t judge this show until the first 4 episodes. ep 1 was a set up with a lot of OTT situations. But given the leads, I do think it will settle down next week. My expectations were very low, So i was not disappointed ; )
But Yoon Park is a hoot right off the bat!

    5
    1

I had low expectations as well and yet I was disappointed.
The only positive surprise was that Yoon Park was NOT an annoying character or a baddie, I love him and stay mainly for him. 🙂

      4
      1

Did you find him annoying in Fanletter, Please? I found him to be delightful, and definitely not the baddie!

        1
        1

          I loved him there! 😍
Also in Radio Romance (or Age of Youth).
I actually liked him even in Forecasting Love and Weather, but I prefer if I can also love his character. 😊 I somehow expected that in Slumpfest he would be annoying second lead or the one causing the downfall, so I’m happy he is not either and that he is such a dork here. 🙂

Marry My Husband
Quick first impression before I fall asleep: It’s so much better than what I expected, actors included.
BUT it is also quite dark and I may not be strong enough for it.
@indyfan @attiton @seeker @elinor @laurensophie @ryunami
and everyone else interested 🙂

15
16

Have you seen both episodes yet? “Dark” is not a negative for me as long as it’s not all makjang, all the time.

I’m getting more tempted despite my recently-acquired aversion to Park Min-young.

    6
    2

Yes, I saw them back to back.
There is no makjang (so far).
Bullying, misogyny, domestic violence, abuse, false friends… sometimes too realistic.
The tone is more melancholic, the humor is subtle and it is not always sure that the Heroine manages to avoid the fate.
PMY is actually rather good here and so is Na Inho. Colour me surprised.

      8
      1

Thanks! I haven’t seen #2 yet. But my friend reported it was less fraught than #1? But I agree it could overall be more melo than makjang. TBH that’s more my jam.

I’m also keeping the heads-up @vienibenmio is giving about the source material. That said, they seem to change up these adaptations so much. Maybe in this case it’ll be for the better? 🤞🏽

        4
        0

Uh, I just clapped at the screen with revenge glee during episode two. The new friend and her sass!! The show’s probably still going to share a few too many of the revenge tropes with PMR, but…Ji-won is already way more satisfyingly petty in her revenge than Yi-joo ever was.

      6
      1

I love the new friend! And I love that Jiwon (with her knowledge) is making new friends and starting Living Her Own Life 🙂
I don’t see the show as revengy as PMR, Jiwon needs to push her fate to someone else what can be tricky and may not always work. But that curry lunch was very very satisfying. 😁😁

        2
        1

Ooh. That cafeteria revenge was so petty—and so satisfying, so fun. A bit more relatable than chaebol revenge…or is that just me? 😅

The second episode was much lighter but there’s no denying the dark current running thru this. That talk about sexual violence within a relationship? When was the last time you heard that in a drama?

          2
          0

IKR. I even love PMY again (the last time I enjoy her drama was WWWSK) Episode 1 is smooth with FL on her way to get her revenge and her boss is oddly, always around just in case if she needs someone to catch her from falling in the office or the subway or from a jug full of hot water or to let her enjoy a close up view of glassless Clark Kent.. 🥵 🥵🥵

Must not let our guard down and let’s carry on watching with extra caution🤣

    Sleep well @dorotka

    7
    2

She is really good here, finally I see the character and not the actress.

      Boss Kent probably knows???

      2
      1

Agree, she’s really good here and I think PMY hasn’t lost her touch, like watching her in Healer or WWWSK.

Boss Kent probably knows too much .. I read in the drama’s discussion, someone thinks Boss is a person from the future too. But it makes sense.. the taxi driver/Ji-won’s father must have brought the both of them from the future to help each other.. or falling in love with each other?

I just completed ep. 2 and I want more!

        2
        0

How many times did he catch her? Thrice in one episode. Four times? Hilarious.

I’m glad the drama is giving us some lightness to leaven the heaviness.

LOL and I can’t help but suspecting him for a pervert! 😂

Actually I can’t really watch when her boyfriend bullies or abuses her.. but very satisfying when she gets her first revenge in the company’s cafeteria in ep. 2. Serves them the cheaters right!

I also hope the two women she just getting along with will be her strong allies in the office (other than the Boss).

        2
        1

          Her boyfriend is terrible 🥺😤

Yay for new and better friends!

I do hope you will join in the watch if not at least the recaps. As you know watching / commenting along with other Beans is at times more fun than watching the drama alone. 🤣
But you do what suits your vibe. After all we should watch ONLY those dramas which resonate with us in some way.

    4
    1

I will see, my holidays are slowly finishing and I will then have less time to be engaged 😞
Also, this show hits way more emotionally than PMR, I mean in a sense that it can HURT more… and I’m not sure I’m ready for that…

Happy New Year, Beanies, from Europe! 🎆🥂🎊
Thank you for your company in 2023, I very much appreciated it, and I’m looking forward to the discussions in 2024! ❤️
(And also to squeeing… and joking… and having fun together! 🙂❤️)

Have a wonderful 2024! 🍀

My first kdrama ever was Loveholic. A random watch on YouTube many years ago. I was enchanted. With the cinematography and with all the feelings it evoked. I couldn’t stop watching. My first k-melo. And I was also enchanted with Mr. Voice. He was the reason why I watched Coffee Prince and one of the reasons I fell into the rabbit hole called kdramas.
RIP 이선균.
You will be missed.

Annoying Second Leads sitting together in the plane 😄

    I find Tae-min endearing.

      I only sometimes.
But I like him more than the female colleague.

I realised my comment probably was not capturing what I meant – I was just amused by the shots of the different couples sitting in the plane… and the contrasting shot of the second leads.

I agree that Taemin as a character is not bad and is sometimes very helpful… I do have a bit problem with the actor though 😅

Four episodes in and my introverted heart is in love. Especially with Shin Hyesun and Ji Changwook together, (I think their acting levels nicely match.)

I have a backlog of dramas I want to catch up with and instead… I have the tango scene from Demon on repeat. Everything just clicks there for me, from the music and choreography of the central dance (and slap 😄)… to the stepping and dancing gangsters with their baseball bats… their boss trying to resist the charm… and then the rose petals flying around… ingenious.

15
6

I’ve watched the tango scene 3 times already and I predict I’ll watch it at least once a day until the next episode drops.
    It’s outrageous and I can’t stop chuckling.

First time watching: my brain is wondering what the hell is going on. My eyes are taking in more information than my brain can process.

Second time: I cheering them on like an idol concert.

Third time: I’m dancing along with them in my pajamas

    7

The rose petals were the cherry on top of the cake. Also a change from the usual cherry blossoms. 🌸 🤣

Oh, I’m in the SAME situation here! 🤣

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this statement. It’s not a case of missing out on other dramas. it is about our very precious well-being. It is about healing the bruises we’ve collected this year with K-dramas that failed to embrace our hearts with tenderness and care. It is about having an early Christmas present at the end of a long and busy year. We, poor and innocent Beanies, have been let down far too often this year, and we’ve rightly deserved a little tango. We’ve earned it!

We’re not watching the tango scene on repeat because we lack discipline. We watching it on repeat because it’s now part of an absolutely essential self-care routine and nothing will change my mind about it.

Anyway, pass me the popcorn while we replay the tango scene yet again.

    2

I had to make a tough decision this evening what to watch and finally chose (Joseon) Contract Marriage as I had to babysit and expected to laugh the least (wrong, episode 2 was rather funny, especially Mr. Secretary). I liked it, more than I expected. And now I have 4 shows airing over the weekend. How will I manage??? 🤔

Filling up mid-week lull with weekend dramas. 😀

    1

Yes, that will be the result, but every weekend I will face the same dilemma what to watch first… and will have to avoid the fanwall… oh, the difficult life of a kdrama addict 😄

@attiton
Ha Joon’s times: 9.11-15.22, 18.02-19.16, 19.40-21.30, 32-36.33, 40.56-50.27, 1.00.50-end. 😁 Quite a lot, actually!
Mom is still horrible. 😤
