I
I felt in love with you when I was in primary school. My 6th grade History book had a photo of you. My eyes opened wide and I wanted to know more about you.
When I arrived home I had to look it up in our Encyclopedia (Larousse). Oh, those days when the Internet wasn’t even a dream.
When I was 17 I went for the first time to London, and when I visited the National Gallery my heart skipped a beat when I saw you. You where even more beautiful “in the flesh”.
From that moment, every time I visited London and I was near Trafalgar Square, I would go to the museum just to see you. Your colours, the story you tell, the light, your powerful image will always take my breath away.
You are my pc desktop wallpaper, and my Facebook cover. A simple look at your photo, and my heart sinks in happiness. Sometimes you even bring tears of joy to my eyes.
I firmly believe the world is a better place because J.M.W. Turner painted you.
Awww! Yet, it is just a sad and meloncholic painting as the ship is being tugged to its final berth before it is taken apart for scraps! The sunset and the decaying boat seem to echo each other as the day dies…..!
Most of Turner’s paintings are shown in the Tate Britain (when I visited it for the first time its name was Tate Gallery). It’s a breathtaking experience, and if you love Turner and you ever visit London, you have to visit.
I hope you do!!

I fell in love with J.M.W. Turner’s painting Rain, Steam, Speed in high school. I’m so happy you get to visit this painting “in the flesh”.
