Found yet another Cdrama to obsess over. Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu are great together. The costumes, CGI and settings are gorgeous. Big shout out to the poster design for being absolutely ethereal.

Struggling to get over my Kdrama slump while falling into another Cdrama rabbit hole. Ashes of love is tropey but also fun and beautiful. Despite the long episode count its a great watch.

Ah I’m glad you liked it and this reply is so late but I still wanted to share my thoughts. I’m suffering from drama slump myself but if you haven’t seen it yet You Are My Glory is a good watch too.

Shout out to the costume department for all the fabulous outfits.

The costumes and head gear/crowns were the first thing that got my attention too. They are unique than the usual fare. And the headgers for CH and Shuiyuntian’s Lord Yunzhong were also weird honestly. I guess they got some flak for it too but the overall costumes and accessories especially DFQC’s and XLH’s were really good.

The Moon Tribe costumes were amazing. I’m still obsessed with them.

I liked the fairy’s clothes too. But hands down DFQC’s robes were the best.

The costumes look gorgeous with its details particularly the crown/head ornaments. Hopefully it will be available in netflix soon. I will check it out then.

Nope never moving on from them. Definitely at the top of my best couple list.

A couple that values respect and equally sacrifices 😭

Their sacrifice scenes had me bawling especially for XLH. Completely in awe of Esther Yu for her delivery in that scene.

EY and DW were both great in tgat scene. WHD seems to be getting more praise overall but I think EY was spectacular throughout too.

Love Between Fairy and Devil is without a doubt one of the best dramas I have ever watched. Not once was I disappointed by the writing, acting or pacing. This will be on re-watch forever.

Yay another beanie talking about it. I posted on my wall too. It was so tightly written, wonderfully directed and acted. I already miss them 😭

I’m intrigued, but also not sure whether I’d be able to get over my hatred of dubbing to watch it…

    1
    2

In this particular case, the dubbing helps the drama and the actors. Wang He di, the male lead has a strong accent which I don’t know about because I’m unfamiliar with Mandarin, but other than that he also has a rather shrill voice. The dubber was perfect for him and his domineering character plus he does a good job. Yu Shuxin the female lead dubs her own character. I guess only other actress does the same, the rest are dubbed by voice over artists but honestly all of it is quite smooth.

I never noticed the dubbing for some reason. I think the voices and characters were perfectly matched. Its a good drama so definitely give it a try.

I’ve fallen into the black hole of Cdramas. Love Between Fairy and Devil is gorgeous, the sets and music are amazing and leads have such good chemistry. Loving the body swap/link hijinks.

Oh i was about to recommend it to you when you just replied to my commemt 😅Glad you’re already watching it. It’s the IT drama of the year, isn’t it? So good!

Wish I didn’t have costume allergy.. I had to stop at ep 5.
From what i saw, Dylan was funny..
A lot of cdrama folks seem to be enjoying it.. Have fun!

Cdramas are slowly growing on me and You Are My Glory is an absolute visual delight. Every scene with the leads is insanely beautiful. The female lead especially has my whole heart.

I can’t believe this pairing happened and it took so long. They are one of the prettiest pairs in cdramaland but i was glad to watch the show lived up to total sweetness and no angst.

    6
    2

Happy to hear there is no angst! I was worried about the ep 23-30 lull..

I ended up binge watching this is 3 days and it was an absolute visual delight also helps that leads were so wholesome together. It felt a bit angsty in between when he turned her down then moped around for a few episodes but after that the cute took over in full swing and I forgot all about it. The ending was so good and everything came full circle. The wedding scene though was the best and Dilraba was absolutely stunning.

I actually didn’t mind the angst, in fact I much prefer angst before starting a relationship than after. This made sense to me since Yu Tu was going through a jaded phase, and he needed to be absolutely clear before entering the relationship. I am glad that the time he spent away from her made him yearn for her more and eventually go all out to get her!
And not many dramas show us a relationship after they get together. This show not only did that, but also showed life after marriage!
Talking about it makes me want to go back and watch some scenes again… ha ha.

Both of them are good looking! visual delight indeed.

Oh! I just started watching it 2 days back and I can’t stop!
OMG! They both look absolutely gorgeous.
And i totally like the set up.. almost like love at second chance.. I like how mature both leads are and their organic growth in their relationship..
I am on ep 10 and totally loving it so far.
I can’t believe I missed this when it aired.

It really was great seeing two leads in their 30s having a realistic and mature relationship despite the fact that one of them was a massive celebrity. Their relationship was just so real despite being a fairy tale of sorts.

You Are My Glory was easily my favourite romcom from last year and among my top shows from any language or genre. Just a wonderful show throughout in both the acting and making. Dilraba was immensely likeable as always, but I was surprised by how good Yang Yang was too – I hadn’t been too impressed by his previous performances but he was a revelation here. Their chemistry together was just unreal. I wish more cdrama (and kdrama, let’s be honest) romcoms were like this. Just the right touch of angst and slow burn, but mostly a sweet and thoughtful romance with equally compelling halves.

I’m glad more people are finding the show and loving it as much as I did!

    3
    1

I am SCREE-ing and squealing at these little touches, gazes, subtle glances, small gestures.. like this show is nailing the slow burn romance. its killing me!
I love how they casually share private information (like how she hands him her phone before going on stage..).. I love these details and its so well done!

I cannot believe this is my first Dilraba drama! Loving her character and her acting here..
And Yang Yang, I have seen him in Love O2O, thought he was ok, but can’t act. He def is vastly improved since. This role is written for him and he def looks more mature and more handsome now, and the camera knows it and captures it perfectly! lol.

      I hope I survive this!

      3
      2

Slow burn always works best in the little details. Remembering them just subtly glancing at one another and looking into each other’s eyes still makes me blush after a whole year! They truly were something special.

Totally agreed on Yang Yang improving leaps and bounds since his Love O2O days. He was just another pretty face to me back then, but his recent work on You Are My Glory and Who Rules the World has me considering him as a serious actor™. And him becoming even more handsome certainly helps too!

Don’t worry, you’ll survive this and keep on swooning with the rest of us!

This was my first drama for both of them and they were so good. Chemistry and acting everything was excellent.

Picked up my first Cdrama and its surprisingly not bad. The dubbing keeps throwing me off though.

The dubbing might be the most annoying thing about cdramas..
But you’ll probably get used to it 😉

    1
    1

I’m trying. It doesn’t get better at any point but the cute keeps me going. Any idea why they dub? Its awful and I’m sure the actors have better voices.

      1
      2

I know of two reasons they so frequently use voice actors: to even out accents, and to avoid having to deal with background noises (this is more often a problem for historical dramas) since certain sets can be pretty busy with multiple projects being filmed at the same time.
That’s what I’ve gathered, at least.
Though I feel like money and profit play a big part in this too 👀

In my experience modern dramas are dubbed less often, though, so you probably got a little unlucky with the one you’re watching (or was it me the one who got lucky? ahah) 😅

Hope you can still enjoy the cute, though!! ^^

        0
        0

It’s often because of the accents. It’s hard when a TW actor plays in a Cdrama because I’m used to his voice and suddenly it’s another one.

        1
        0

The dubbing made it impossible for me to ever get into Cdramas. It literally makes me shudder

    2
    1

Cdramas get a bad reputation (things of the past, i guess), but honestly there are some really good dramas. And they’re improving on them.

Any recommendations? I’m only the mood for cute fluff these days and thankfully this one offers just that but I’m always up for more cute.

      1
      3

Legally Romance, Day of Becoming you and My Fated Boy are total cute fluff shows. Though all of them have a substantial story to keep you invested as well.

        0
        1

Plus in all of these shows the actors use their own voice so that’s a plus. I don’t mind dubbing as much now, in fact spme actors are better dibbed. But for the sake of the overall project, those dubbed in the actors voice or not dubbed at all feel better somehow. You can also You Are My Glory to the list. That’s cute, fluff too.

The evolution of our love is a good friends to lovers drama. It has had several remakes since the original Taiwanese version and I prefer the Chinese version over the K drama. I tend to use subtitles is that an option? Then you could lower the spoken words.

        0
        0

Go ahead is my favourite Chinese drama it’s a slice of life romance. Single dad raising his daughter while running a restaurant. He is a great dad and a loyal friend to the dad upstairs. You see the family grow as new members join and the children grow up.

        1

The dubbing turns me off so many times… I always get the impression, it’s the same actors who are dubbing. The woman are always given the same kind of voice like cute and “obedient”. It’s why I don’t watch many Cdramas, I can’t overcome it.

    1
    2

I’m only on my first drama so its probably too early to say this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they really were using the same actors to dub everyone.

      1
      0

I agree there was a spate of dramas with the same girly voice that wound me up and I had to stop watching because it got on my last nerve. I like listening to the language while I read the subtitles to familiarise myself with the language but I could not do that so that’s why I stopped watching. The dramas I watched before that trend were really good. A watched a mix of modern and some historical fantasy so I was gutted that I couldn’t continue.

I don’t know what the future holds for their relationship but for now I want to enjoy every minute of their sweetness.

Late appreciation post for Kim so-hyun and her pretty Baeksang Awards dress. Love the more mature cut and bright color. Waiting for her next drama.

On a shallow note, Kim so-hyun is stunning with her hair tied up. I’m enjoying the maturity she brings to her character post the time skip.
