Extraordinary You, Ep 14.

So the quality is back. Editing and story telling were on point, though plot direction was NOT. Tbh, the show has handled it well – Dan Oh was fine in the stage so Haru did indeed succeed in saving her. But since the past manhwa is repeating itself in the shadow, she was still in danger of dying in the shadow, and now Baek Kyung has gone and completed that role. In Flower he killed her on stage, now he killed her in the shadow.

BUT I hate the amnesia trope. We’ve watched it happen with Haru, using it again feels like lazy writing, especially because this new rule was introduced so late in the game.

I also hated all the moping, and Haru and Danoh not communicating – its a resurgence of the old K-drama tropes. They won’t share information in an effort to “protect” each other. *rolls eyes* Do we REALLY have to do this?

Finally, I lament how late the show introduced Juda’s self awareness arc. So much possibility for fun and conflict, now lost.

Will Baek Kyung now try and kill her on the stage, for some reason? Given how Flower went, with Jin Michae’s love.

Did he kill her in the shadow? I thought he put the mask back on before it was too late. I thought she was still alive when Haru arrived. She died suddenly while Haru was with her, for no apparent reason (other than that she still needed the surgery in the shadow even though her story changed on stage).

Haru should understand what’s happening — just like when he came back unaware, now Dan-oh did. There has to be something that will bring back her memories. What will it be? The pendant from Flower? Does the fact that she died in the shadow mean that the new Dan-oh won’t have any heart trouble? So when she remembers, everything will be OK?

Also, is Kyung’s half brother good or evil? I find him scary. Why would he tell Kyung that someone who died in the shadow would just lose their memories? It was as if he was giving Kyung the hint to kill Dan-oh, so that he could have robot Dan-oh forever.

AH wait, she died with Haru? I was so upset with that whole thing I may not have watched it as closely as I normally would. I see, I see.

Jin Michae and Kyun’g half bro are both scary indeed! What are they revealing to Kyung, Kyung of all people! And why?

All those questions you raise are so apt. I’m really curious about what will be revealed in the finale episodes.

I think, having regard to episode 16, the amnesia makes sense. The beauty which this shows explores comes from how Haru and Dan-oh find each other no matter what, how they “defy” their fates by being together despite the designs of the manhwa writer (who would prefer they disappear into the background as extras or like the characters whom the manhwa writer wants them to like for plot purposes). Also, the notion that story and their relationship repeats made it necessary for the amnesia to go the other way, since Dan-oh already had to deal with Haru’s amnesia.

And the moping, well, I like it to be honest. I think it captured the right mood. But, again, I’m thinking about this through the lens of episodes 15 and 16.
