Fave debut would have to be that of IZ*ONE’s. I loved everything about La Vie En Rose. The song is well-produced and arranged, catchy, and gave off a fun, energetic and elegant vibe that set them apart from other groups. The group’s chic girl-next-door styling and lovely choreography (which is parts graceful and powerful) worked well with the song. The group was also fun to watch in the variety shows that I’ve seen them in and definitely oozed with a lot of personality. https://youtu.be/E-T1gEeUqwA
Produce48 arguably has been the most divisive so far and ended with a lot of negativity and fan wars. I’m glad that this song somewhat unified the fandom and made the promotions not as toxic. The song, concept, and choreo were so good. I heard that CLC was initially supposed to get the song but the songwriters/producers ended up selling it to Mnet.
Oh! I read that the Japanese trainees were not as polished as the Korean ones, and were at quite a disadvantage in terms of skills. Was this the point of conflict?
It was part of the conflict. Also, several fans were particularly rabid this year. I personally think that there were a lot of talented girls this seasons and many fans were pissed that their girls eventually didn’t end up being part of the final group. Those that got selected ended up getting lot of hate.
YES iz*one’s La vie en rose!!! I might have watched all their live performances on youtube lol. Its strange because i didn’t watch produce48 and am not really into their other songs. But La vie en rose’a cheorography is so mesmerising 😄.
I know! Everything about IZ*ONE, from the girls themselves to their styling, debut song, and choreo, is just so pretty. 😍 The girls are great in varieties also and just brim with so much charm, wit, and personality.
Who even frakking debuted this year I DON’T EVEN KNOW. Can I prematurely say the Hyuna xEdawn combo that is gonna slay everyone when they debut as a duo…
About E’Dawn and Hyuna, you know, I didn’t think about that! Holy Hannah! Although, to be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of Hyuna, but this could still be good given E’Dawn is part of it.
As far as debuts went, the only ones I remembered–with my favourite song of theirs–were:
[1] ATEEZ “Pirate King”
[2] (G)I-dle “latata”
[3] Stray Kids “Get Cool”. Yeah, I know they released “Hellevator” last year, but technically, they had their debut this year.
[4] Holland “I’m Not Afraid”. I actually prefer “Neverland” but, this video makes a f#ucking statement and I love it for that.
There’s also UNB who I swore you mentioned somewhere else. I know/remember nothing about them
Personally, I think I might give this to Stray Kids. They just had so many solid songs and M/Vs. Plus, their songs were quite diverse.
I did mention UNB elsewhere. Twice actually. So did Kaybee. I just forgot actual debuts lmao.
ATEEZ was okay but I’m such a Block B girl at heart, anyone that tries their style now just seems shallow too me. I’m sorry ATEEZ!!!!
Skidz had District 9 too… was that this year or last year?
Yeah the more I get into kpop the more I like older songs and groups, so debuts are hard pressed to impact me. O_O. I’m a harsh taskmaster.
Well… for me, nobody is like Block B. For reasons I can tell you if you care to listen for long enough hahaha.
I mainly said that because ATEEZ are under KQ which is Block B’s not direct company, but parent company, so the twitter comparisons were rife when ATEEZ finally debuted. \o_o/
Block B do have a distinct style and sound that has influenced several other groups though. They were instrumental in making the strong hip hop sound popular in the new age of kpop, and they’re one of the only groups that has maintained strong hip hop and retro roots throughout their run.
Sounds like Conduct For Zero and Nillili Mambo are coming back in now in groups like Stray Kids, ATEEZ and D-Crunch, probably because of Block B’s influence, whilst in turn Block B was influenced by by people before them.
I’m not actually surprised you know Nillili Mambo. It could’ve been me that you know it through, but it’s also pretty well known otherwise. Lots of people who aren’t kpop fans or bees know it for some reason haha
I love Triple H, and I love 4Minute (her old group, RIP 4MIN!), and I love Troublemaker (her old duo) and I love the odd Hyuna song, and I like EDawn’s style of rapping, so I think them as a duo would really fly. Plus they already have good chemistry hahaha
G(IDLE) did, right? Not my style tho. Then there’s JBJ95 and Donghan and I like em, but I wouldn’t say they’ve got me excited. D-Crunch I haven’t listened to, same with A-Teez. Uhhhh. Who else debuted.
Ohhh wait okay, yes, UNB. That’s my answer haha
It’s actually Sanggyun’s third debut, so I hope this one sticks *le sigh*
Mmh I liked Home too, but I feel like something’s messing with him and Kenta’s chem I guess? They don’t blend well enough yet imo, but that’ll probably happen when they have worked together as just a duo for a while.
Their live performance was very cool. Helovater was amazing & so was the song after that. Even as newbies, one kid was doing amazing rap as well (I haven’t looked into them a lot😅).
Lots of potential ^^
