Camellia – more red herrings, redemption arc for DB’s mother, and the story nearing climax. It sure doesn’t feel like a 20 episode arc. More surprises/goodies for us?
One wonders. I just don’t think it’s Heung sik. That is just too easy and I am still convinced that the victim pool should be expanded. The deaths will not just be limited to Hyang mi.
At least we know that Joker has to smell like lacquer (or paint thinner?). That must leave a pretty narrow field. But why would DB’s mother not run to the police as soon as she made that connection? Why threaten her suspect personally? Why give him the chance to come after her?
No matter what happens to her in this encounter, I have to believe that Mom is going to be around in the final episode, so that DB can donate her kidney.
After that speech she made about protecting her child? I could see her luring him to follow her if she thought she could kill him. But luring him to follow her so that he could kill her — and what? Get caught? What about all that fierce protectiveness toward DB? Where does that go if she just allows Joker to kill her? Mom’s supposed to be the smartest one in the family, and that just doesn’t seem smart.

Remember Murder on the Orient Express? I know this drama won’t go there, but I thought it would have been an interesting way to take the story.

I think 18 episodes might have been tighter, but I think they can fill 20 episodes in revealing Joker and his motives.

Double indemnity clause in the insurance policy?
DB’s mother, much like Hyang-mi, has the feel of a blood sacrifice in the making.

Mutual death scenario, or, the final bit of proof she needs because as HS said, all she has is the smell of lacquer and “beast eyes”.
Remember, without a kidney, she’s dead anyway. She could be looking for a way that does the most good for DB.

It’s only good for DB if Mom is somehow able to take out Joker.
