A bit of an existential question about Extraordinary You. History is repeating itself in the shadow. Dan Oh and Haru are saying things they said on STAGE in the previous manhwa.

It’s a big tragic circle and it seems like they can’t get out of it. and I think Haru realizes it as we see him crying in the picture I have below. I cried at that part. He’s dreading a vicious circle and he’s not sure what will happen.

My question is: if Dan Oh, Baekyung and Haru keep repeating what they said on STAGE in the previous manhwa in the shadow of this new manhwa, do they actually have free will? Is this what the author wanted ? Were they their TRUE selves in the previous manhwa ? (Am I thinking too much? Probably)

Curious to know your thoughts on my big existential question here. Im not even sure the drama or manhwa is supposed to be that deep but I can’t shake these thoughts out of my mind.

    Haru knowing that when Dan oh was saying those words, yeah, I was crying with him.

    Seriously, the writer did these characters so dirty.

      I dunno to whom the writer did dirty the most. Sometimes I think it’s Haru, then I realize it’s Dan Oh, then Im reminded of Squid and Bae Kyung. Let us not forget Lee Do ha :'(

    Its like memories of their past lives…..it became a part of their character trait as they kept on being reused…..You could see that Dan Oh gets her spunk from her previous life, Haru his calm demeanor, Mi Chae his passiveness and Kyung his temper and possessiveness….they are rebelling against their setup but they were created by the writer so can’t escape that fully…….and you are right…..this is one vicious cycle of tragedy that is happening

      yup you just put in clearer words what i was trying to say. its heartbreaking. I love that the big theme of this drama is «Free will» and how it brings it up.

    The only one who hasn’t tried yet to change the story is Baek Kyung. If he could change his own character, then maybe they could all escape tragedy this time, and escape the endless cycle. If Baek Kyung really cared about Dan Oh this time, enough to let her be happy with Haru.

      GOOD point. But I dont he wants to change the story just yet— he doesn’t want to lose the only time he DOES have with Dan Oh which is on stage ;(

    authors are doing a time travel genre.. and all is stage 🙂

        i mean Haru was an extra.. and caught author’s attention again.. and came back in his role as subordinate to Kyung

        somewhere , when Dan oh started changing the storyline she caught author’s attention.. and maybe the author decided to take this time travel route

        haru could have died , lost his memory, and come back as normal…

        Unless instead of author, drama script writer wanted to do it for heightened drama….then i call that to be flaw of the script.. and by end of it EY will become less than ordinary

    Also, who was that transfer student? I wonder if she’s a reused character or a brand new extra. Could she be someone else who can change the story? Could she be someone Baek Kyung could love for her own sake, and not just because she’s his longtime sidekick?

      My assumption she is Squid fairy’s love in the first manhwa. It is hinted when she said she liked squid 😉

          in previous episode Squid talked about his love. and glad she isn’t around..but now she is…

          the thing is.. even if there was a glitch, author would have repeated a few characters..

          bringing all characters from other manhwa in this one (e.g Kyung’s brother’s appearance is after Haru’s memory loss, squid’s girlfriend) – irrelevant.. UNLESS author has integrated two stories and is writing this manhwa as such.. she will either use this to restart trumpet/ or start her next novel with time travel theme.. or something

    Yup. My heart broke with this. We’d suspected it, but it still hit with full force anyway. There’s no such thing as free will? Or perhaps, are they limited in their free will as manhwa characters. Everything they do and say and think is something that a previous storyline allowed them. 🙁

      Those are my assumptions and that breaks my heart </3. And for them to realize it is just so… Dan Oh is still oblivious and I wonder what her reaction will be to all this. Poor Haru seems to holding out for her and his tears today were just— ugh.

      At least they are able to choose who to direct those words to in the shadow in this incarnation. She thanked Haru this time, not Baek Kyung.
