No, I fear my Russian cinema is lacking. The only Russian film I can remember seeing off the top of my head is Battleship Potemkin. Is this the film? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wedding_(1944_film) I’m not even sure where I would go to try and watch this…seems pretty obscure here.

not this one. it was kind of a sad movie of 7 minutes i guess so short movie version.
it was by an unknown director who isn’t even on the map filmmakers as told by our mentor.

also the reason i wanted to talk to you is i was kind of not so satisfied how that movie was explained or interpretad by our mentor. So thought to seek a new perspective.

ill search for it and then let you know if i find

First day of workshop and it was AWEEEE-some (VP style)
loved each and every moment being there, learnt so many thing about cinema that I never thought before…. and best part I received so many appreciations (from such renowned film director) for understanding and explaining the scenes-characters-stories rightly….
such a happy day today… now looking forward to remaining days.

Cool!! Is the class being taught by the director? Now you can wax poetic about mis-en-scene and the importance of depth of field. Hahahahaha

    3
    1

thank you… yes its taught by a very experienced director (20+ years)
lol mis-en-scene is such an interesting topic to not to be discussed (i already did an online course on lynda about film making so got to know very basics) .. will do for sure in coming days and same for DoF…

That’s great to get an experienced teacher and actually learn something! My daughter is also studying Film and Media Arts.

indeed. it felt like peeling an onion while having him explain the tiny bits of the films.
great to know abt your daughter. i really feel west is more accepting towards such fields for further studies. here is my country it still makes people think we are wasting our time while pursuing anything creative.

At first i thought Moss Balls nothing but moss balls.. but seeing this scene again and again made me realise both the balls (placed on the sides behind GH and MI) were representing their Hearts respectively.

When MI stutters/blurts it was not the ball which felt happy but GH’s heart. And Ball behind her floats to let us visualise the emotional impact of that confession on GH (as we couldn’t see how happy GH must hv felt at that moment)

Same way when GH said she liked to stay with MI it was Min Ik’s heart which was on cloud 9 and ball behind him reflected the intensity of his happiness by floating. As there was no other way to visualise his happiness if not for floating Moss Balls.

And the the third one placed in the centre… might be representing their mutual attraction which was already there just needed a trigger. Which happened when their individual hearts realized their unspoken love for each other. Which made 3rd ball to float too.

Apologies if anyone feels my such posts are way too deep and boring. But i love disintegrating such scenes for such deeper meaning.

Cinematography Appreciation Post#1 WWW
Loved this one frame its in sync in what BTM said “its been a hard day today with so many things happened”
All the long stairs going towards the end that one point where BTM sits eventually… is like she is finally taking rest after whole days struggles…. its a subtle way of supporting her statement just with framing and not words.

What happens when you are deep inside your kdrama addiction and thinking just your OTP..
\”you type whole reply to a post while looking at your external keyboard only to know its not connected to laptop and whatever was typed never completed its journey from keyboard to DB comment section\”

and now skipped reply as I cant recall whatever I typed.. instead here i am explaining what just happened.

His priceless expressions when she stutters while explaining why she said “i like to spend time with you”
My Tube-Lights are so utterly cute…😍😍😍

The first two moss balls floats up as soon as each of them hears happy news. GH had said that they float when they become happy. Cute detail.

When he blurts first moss ball floats… obviously cause it was happy to know Do Min Ik does love GH even if just subconsciously as of now.

hey beanies..
finally after one year I am going for another workshop and this time its my fav one. As its the very first step towards film making. This workshop is about understanding the art of cinematography, how to understand the language of lens, why any shot is taken that way, why a particular camera angle, why close ups or long shots….

I am just so much excited about it that I cant explain in words. Its one my long pending wishes that god has granted. And i feel so happy sharing with you all. Wish me luck that ill be able to learn something great out of it.

Cinematography Talk part#2 Angel’s Last Mission
This is my wild guess and random speculation that Angel’s love with give us a sad ending if not something super dramatic.

And the reason i am feeling so lies in the cinematography. After so many years of drama watching i haven’t seen a single drama where tilted lines are uses throughout the episode so consistently, be it a comic, serious, sad, tragedy or flashback. Like its 90% of time when the frame is not straight. Even the horizon which is most basic thing to be kept straight in cinematography but that too (except one scene which ill mention later) is mostly titled at an angle.

And all these not-so-straight lines are used to convey unsettling feeling to viewers. And also gives us a hint that something is going to be wrong or dramatic or tragic in this drama in long run.

I really want to be proved wrong but seeing all the scenes that way just so uncomfortable for me and am way too scared for my OTP.

Here are some of the scenes from last episode.

And more perspective and views are welcome.

I noticed that too, but didn’t think of what it meant other than interesting cinematography. I was too busy just feeling. But your theory makes some sense.
Maybe at some point the horizon will straighten out when Dan figures out what he needs to do.
I do hope you are wrong as I don’t want a sad ending!

    1
    2

i also hoping ill be wrong and we see happy ending…. but i am way too scared and suspicious episode after episode….

and yes i like your input that everything might come all straight as soon as thing straighten in the drama and may be then we can foresee a happy ending… i love your point….thanks for sharing.

This makes me wonder if I went back and watched from the beginning to see when the lines changed. It was jumping out at me as a style, but I didn’t think of it as actually part of the narrative.
As a photographer, when the horizon is not straight it drives me crazy – but in film it doesn’t bother me.

        1
        1

it can be a stylistic choice of director to show lines all around titled and I thought it to be normal with no link to narrative but seeing horizon that way again and again made me bit doubtful… and thats the reason I put this post. again I can be wrong and it can be a stylistic choice but I just wanted to share my perspective with you all.
being a photographer.. i hate horizon if not straight. And same is for film. Its like my OCD that i cant ignore tilted horizon….
good to know you are a photographer as well.

A couple of years ago a friend sent me a fantastic photo she took. It was a landscape of the mountains in TN. But all I could see was her horizon was off. It drove me crazy and finally I wrote her and said I loved the pic, but the horizon was tilted. She didn’t get what I was saying. *sigh*
I still like her work, but don’t comment anymore. It’s such a simple thing to straighten the horizon. But that is my preference I guess.

Among these scenes, you have 1) a ballerina dancing the part of a mad woman 2) a death scene 3) Dan caught in the act 4) an evil villain lying to our hero (I don’t recognize #5). So you can be totally right about the unsettling cinematography and still not apply it to the resolution of this story.

    3
    2

i know dear .. i am completely with you and want to be proven wrong in story resolution . I already mentioned in the post this is my wild guess and random speculation being a person who is into cinematography very seriously.
And the reason I come up with such posts is because I want to be a filmmaker and all these analysis help me understand more about the art. so its completely ok if you think otherwise.

#5 is when LSys aunt comes to meet her and Dan serves the drink to her.

I love this conversation and what everyone sees. It makes me want to watch and think more consciously when I watch. Right now I just am feeling everything and even though I notice the framing – I’m too busy feeling the emotions.
A good film is WAY more than just someone saying the lines isn’t it?

      1
      1

I really appreciate you pointing out these cinematography techniques. I never even noticed that the shots were tilted. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it now though.
