I love cooking shows but mukbang never appeals to me…..until as a fangirl watching this video compilation of her bias Xiao Zhan eating so heartily and joyously when his profession demands him to stay slim (imo unrealistically so) especially knowing that he loves to food, dreams about food, and as a kid aspired to be a pastry chef!
It is difficult to juggle between the demands of fans (choco abs, chiseled jaw lines), PDs (TU director asked the cast to be thin to look more like ethereal), and all the print editors.
The mom in me tends to worry at how thin he and Wibo are. It’s hard to see them look that way. Also with all this new incredibly huge rise in fame, are either of them getting any rest?
He did look a lot more rested after Oath of Love ended filming a few weeks ago. For a while I was worried when he had to juggle between filming and appearing in a couple gals events, as well as the Nanjing fan meets. XZ looks great now appearing on shows like Our Song!
But I worry for the both of them. Maybe I’m just seeing too many clips and they are getting rest in between all of this. But they are barely 22 and 28 years old. It must be so exhausting!
Ultimately it’s his decision, even if that’s a decision being driven by the industry he is in, so I wont judge or condemn him on his choice. But I personally think he looks way too thin. Even in Jade Dynasty where he put on an extra like 20 lbs or something (I forgot how much exactly) he still looked too thin to me. So I can’t even fathom how thin he was in TU. I’ve noticed when I’ve rewatched clips or scenes lately that he did look quite gaunt in the face in TU (now that I’ve seen him in more stuff and have things to compare to).
It’s sad though as he has talked many times about how much he loves food and even has dreams about food and how he goes to bed hungry almost every night 😭 There is keeping a healthy diet and then there is starving yourself.
Beyond the demand of the PD Most likely the intensity of filming schedule also makes one lose weight. 😔
We all just want him to be happy and healthy!! My one consolation is that he did say that I’m one interview that he is no longer trying to lose weight but just maintaining it.

He dreams about food because he can rarely have it! Watching those BTS vids, he’s entirely too skinny.

A lot of them are. It would not surprise me if he is a smoker.
There was a video of Wibo that I saw and he arms looked like swizzle sticks and a sleeveless t shirt 3 sizes too big.
You can’t tell me the oversize/layering clothing is not strictly for fashion.

As we all know, male celebs are under just as much pressure to look certain ways as female celebs, and this unrealistic body image also affects the our boys as girls. An interesting read:
