Same, I watched that episode too and they were so talented!! That cover of pick me up made me laugh though, even Seunghwan started couldn’t control his laughing at the end haha

Yes! He really CAN turn any song into a sad ballad! Haha, poor guy couldn’t hold it in and ended laughing at the end, losing his pork set!

”He learned how to love even if it hurts” This is one of my favourite confessions of all times✨ do you beanies have any that really stayed with you?

You’ll like this FMV which includes the confession 🙂

I do really love this, it still makes me pretty sad for Ha Joon though😥

      0

Oh my heart wept for Ji Soo in this scene!

I won’t call it my favourite confession scene- but the one that stayed with me for a long time was Yoon Yoon Jae’s confession to Si Won in the karaoke room in Answer Me 1997! It was emotional, savage and perfectly depicted the conflicting psyche of teenage love..

    2
    1

I know right, even though it wasn’t the one between the main OTP, it brought out way more emotions for me

I have watched reply 1997 but I can’t really remember it that well (I’ll go watch it now🙃)

      1
      2

Oh please do.. It was perfect..

And so was this scene from Answer me 1997.. I don’t think i have seen such a scene in any other kdrama! It was like Ji Soo’s confession scene but it is between two males:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeZ18vAEtAE

        1
        1

This had one of those iconic lines of the show:
          “The reason I like you?
          Because it is you.
          Just you.
          That is the only reason.”

          3
          3

True. Very iconic. Remains my favorite confession line. And the only one that i need to remember forever.

“Is there any other reason besides that one? I’d rather know the reason if there was one. Then I could find a way to not like you.”

Oohh, the feels. It hurts so bad.

            1
            0

@drawde2000 Right? It still hurts when I see that scene! I never knew I would care for that relationship so much but I did!

Also kudos to the show for not turning it into a joke!

            0
            0

I couldn’t find a clip on youtube of the confession, so ended up finding the episode it was in lol.

AHHH, I forgot how much I loved this show. I find confessions which aren’t flowery the best and that’s why I loved YYJ’s so much – he just laid out his emotions for SSW <3

Then the one between KJH and YYJ was also memorable. It was so painful to see YYJ laugh it off like a joke though:(

            0
            0

Haha… I actually tried finding a link too so that I could share here but couldn’t find any with eng subs 😅

Both the scenes get to me every single time… and this is not my Seo In Guk bias speaking because I didn’t love him when I first watched Answer Me 1997.. it was just the writing, directing and raw acting 😊

        0
        2

I think SIG is such a great actor though, that’s why he’s able to invoke all these emotions that we viewers get when we watch his scenes.

I’m watching I remember you right now and there’s a bit where he’s interrogating and he changes from this happy go lucky fool to someone who’s eerily intense in the matter of a minute.

          0
          1

Oh he really is! I Remember You solidified my love for him and since then there has been no looking back! He is my favourite Korean actor and that is not gonna change… Plus he is just so so talented… Apart from stellar acting, he is such a great singer (of many different genres), good at sports, dance, funny in variety shows, humble, perfect- son, etc. etc. 😀

And I know exactly which scene you are talking about! It was so wonderful how he just transformed from a bumbling rookie to a cold profiler in seconds! Is this your first time watching IRY? If it is, then get ready to be impressed by all the actors in the show 🙂

            0
            0

It is, I’m on ep 5 so far and I’m liking where it’s going! Yep that’s the scene, god he’s so good at everything 😇

          1
          1

Oh that’s great! I hope you love it!
You can check out the recap threads for some really intellectual debates on “who exactly is a monster”, “nature vs nurture” and many more… I stayed on the ep 16 thread for almost an year after it ended! 😛

            1
            0

Ok scanning my memory. This one’s from Sassy Go Go right? Or am I wrong? 😂

    1
    1

King 2 Hearts when Jae-ha proposes. So much happened up to that point and he was the most sincere he has ever been. It was really beautiful.
Marriage Contract when they both realize they love each other outside of the contract.

    1
    1

I loved that confession too!! I think bc Jae-Ha was such a comical character, when his confession came, it was extra special

I’ve not watched Marriage Contract yet but is that the one which is really sad?

      0
      1

It is sad, but it doesn’t dwell in its sadness. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it’s really good. Basically, you’ll laugh and cry.

It wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, if that makes sense! 😀

Woah the comment count for healer is incredible- I’m now wondering if there’s any post which is higher than that

6
21

I don’t anything can beat Beanies love for Healer. I thought TLAHL may give Healer a run for its money, but nope.
Interestingly enough, Healer wasn’t that popular outside of DB.

    3
    3

I think Beanies hype each other up a lot. Like, people stop noticing the flaws and focus on the good, because “everyone here likes it and it’s so much fun to talk about it” lol.

I, for one, certainly get why Healer isn’t that popular elsewhere. It took me two tries to finish.

      3
      1

Beanies really influence the way I perceive dramas. There’ve been a few dramas I wouldn’t have liked if it weren’t for recappers comments/insights, and a few dramas I probably would’ve liked if it weren’t for the recappers perceptions of the drama changing my perception of the drama as well.

        2
        2

I tend to detach myself a lot from general opinion of cultural products, so what Beanies think don’t often influence how I feel about a drama. It does sometimes factor into my decision of what show to watch next, but since I’ve often disliked a DB-popular show or loved a pretty unknown one, or liked an unliked one, I tend not to listen too much to it 🙂

          1
          1

I study literature, so I’d be in big trouble if I couldn’t hehe ^^ When you’re watching or reading for your own pleasure there’s nothing wrong in taking part in hype etc, but when it’s your field of study it means bad grades 😛

And I’m obviously not immune to it or anything, I don’t think I’d have enjoyed TLAHL quite as much if it weren’t for the massive following here.

          1
          1

I know what you mean, even though I did enjoy TLAHL. I think without the hype and fun of the discussions, say if I watched it in 6 months time- I’m not sure if it would have been as memorable as it is now

            1
            0

See I never actually realised healer wasn’t that popular outside of DB, I loved it myself but looking back I feel like I might have glossed over some of the parts that was bad

      2
      0

I think it did have some huge following in Soompi as well. I was not part of Soompi community at that time, but there was a lot of international fan love. I remember there were photobooks and other gifts for cast – collected and sent over by fans.
And it did get a lot of love from Korean neitzens as well. There was even a post by JB on how knetz were following dramabeans comments and translating them to Korean.
Healer and its popularity is a very interesting study indeed, lol.

      2
      0

Yeah, the comment count stands apart from others. It’s interesting how that happened.

    1
    1

I’ve just checked and ep 15-17 had about 1000 ish comments so I wonder why there was such a big difference in the last one

      0
      1

From someone who camped at all the healer recaps and wrote hundreds of comments, I can tell you it was just a very special happy place. The drama was not without flaws and it was never a perfect show. We just loved it despite all the flaws.

The recap count is so high because none of us ever left the page. Even numbered episode recaps had more comments because its a week’s wait. And we would be back daily to talk about one thing or other. And the final episode’s comment count is because there are people who have still not left. That post was going strong for months after the drama ended. We even had a one year healer anniversary party over there, lol. Many of us became friends there and I even met few beanies because of that show and dramabeans! It was a very welcoming and happy place 🙂

        2
        3

I’ve just looked through some of the later comments and it’s really sweet to see that people still check in now and again! Aw, you’ve made me wish that I had watched it live now haha

          1
          1

Haha, you can still join our party! <3 The more the merrier!

Live watching a drama can enhance or diminish the experience. Some shows you might love more because of live watching and some are best left to binge. We never know how a drama might actually turn out to be.

Am usually a huge lurker in db, I do watch shows here and there – but I rarely get actively involved in a recap comment party. And Healer bought out a lot of people like me I guess. And not just in DB, I refrain myself from getting involved in any online internet discussion even on fb because the snark level is usually high everywhere. But DB is always an oasis and safe haven. Its not easy on internet to get a sane happy place to discuss your love for dramas and stories.

            0
            0

I think live watching does build the suspense way more and if the show has lived up to that level of expectation, it’s fine but it’s the ones that don’t.

I usually watch dramas which have been recommended to me, so in that sense it’s dramas that have already finished. I’ve started being really bad for not finishing dramas though. I used to only watch one a time but once I started watching live dramas, I was taking on several at a time and it was the live dramas that I usually dropped if I got bored.

I lurked for about a year and started commenting when SWDBS started airing, it’s pretty addictive commenting on here bc everyone’s so welcoming!<3

          1
          2

Exactly. DB is a very welcoming place! I really hope it stays that way, always.

Its okay to drop dramas, I feel. Rather than waiting to do a marathon and waste 20 hours on a bad show – its better to see first 5 or 6 hours of that show and give up. Its easy to give up while live watching and hard to do while binging.

Swdbs was a strange drama. I mean I fast forwarded half the show and watched only those scenes of our leads. And yet it became one of my favorite. And am pretty sure swdbs is one of the shows that was great because we live watched it.

Imagine binge watching the show – I would have definitely given up by episode 6 or 7 because there was way too much filler. Even if I stuck through, I would have been impatient throughout. And it would have felt exhausting just to complete it for our leads. Because there was no other story that was wholesome in that drama.

            1
            0

And the waiting. Its a special pain when the show is so good. Its what makes good shows great.

When we wait a whole week to get the pay off, everything seems sweeter if its good. And if its bad, then our love just keeps disappearing slowly.

Guess healer had that charm. We would be waiting on pins and needles for the next week’s episodes and at same time be terrified on what if it turns out to be bad or disappointing. In that extent, it fulfilled its promise and kept us hooked week after week for most of its run.

The last few episodes had more issues due to live shooting and editing. But For most of its run though, it did not disappoint us too much. I am not sure if I would have loved the OTP that much if I didn’t wait for it. And could immediately click the next episode to see what happens.

Waiting does make any story better. If its good. Harry potter is a great story and timeless. But no one reading now would be able to experience the agonizing wait fans did for years to know the end. Almost 10 years of sticking with a story, characters and patiently waiting for their future to be revealed. There was this entire generation that grew up with it. No one reading it now would be able to experience that. I think We can say the wait is half the fun!!

            1
            0

The problem is I usually dropped them at like 10 eps. So then it was a case of I had to finish it off to see the ending even though I didn’t really want to lol. BOF was one of the first dramas that I really wanted to drop, but this was when I only watched a drama at a time and I felt compelled to finish it till the end.

Some of the scenes in SWDBS (like the gangsters) were so irrelevant and the humour wasn’t really my kind of humour. Haha I was pretty impatient for the scenes between our main couple as well, didn’t really mind if we got filler for them.

I totally agree with all your comments about the waiting. I’ve never known how to word it and you’ve just said what’s on my mind perfectly. The expectation for live shows is great though because we’ve spent all that week waiting for those episodes so it’s a bigger disappointment if the show goes downhill. Which is why it’s easier to drop the show imo.

It’s hard not to have fun and be so friendly with Jeon So Min, the girl is so sweet and 4D LOL I love her in “Running Man” =D And Ha Seok Jin seems so down-to-earth seems to know how to keep his head on straight despite the sudden rise in popularity =)

I’ve always wondered, what does the 4D personality actually mean?

I’ve started watching so many interviews and variety shows to see more of my favourite leads outside of the drama now haha- it’s such an addictive world😜
