Beanie level: Water maid

I may come back when my love for kdrama comes back. Until then, take care everyone! <3

Completely lost interest in Kdramas so I may come back when my interest in Kdramas reignited. I didn’t even finish watching Marriage Contract, as much I enjoyed it, I can’t force myself to finish it.

I’ve levelled up to Water Maid! 😀

Currently watching Abyss. WHO ON EARTH WOULD USE THEIR PHONE IN RAIN and and then he looked surprised it stopped working in the rain? Seriously, Kdrama logic makes no sense sometimes.

3
6

The scene where the female prosecutor was in her bedroom, saying “”Now he’s getting married, this is how he’s going to treat me” which doesn’t make any sense because she already knew Min was dumped by his girlfriend who he was planning on getting married to. This doesn’t make any sense.

Samsung promotes their Galaxy line as water resistant and waterproof. I have had a few but never dunked them in the rain :).

    3
    2

Oh interesting, I didn’t know it was a promotion of their phones.

      1
      1

I have one of Samsung S series. It is said to be waterproof. Never try to actually use it on water but I did accidentaly dunk it while eating soup, and it did stop working. Thank god Samsung replace the phone with a new one for free. Now I’m extra careful with water eventhough they said ‘waterproof’.

      1
      1

Thank goodness your phone got replaced! It’s false advertising if they claim it was waterproof when it’s really not.

Taking a week or two break from Dramabeans. Been feeling totally overwhelmed with everything going on right now.

Rakuen BROKE MY HEART WITH that ending! Oh my goodness, I thought I was playing a cute game which turned out to be much darker than I thought it would be. It’s so heart wrenching! *cries*

It’s official. I’m in a Kdrama slump.

Is there a Dramabeans Discord server?

Anyone watching Queer Eye season 3 that was dropped on Netflix today?

Not yet! But plan to binge after work. I could use all that positive and fun energy.

Samsies! I’ve watched a couple of episodes this weekend, man some of the episodes are making me tear up. I love the QE message to be the best version of yourself without actively going out to try to change people, it only simply highlights the best part of the people who needed a make over.

Got two questions for you beanies. Which Kdrama character are you most like? Which non-kdrama character are you most like? I’m curious to know!

4
13

I’m most like Kang Mi Rae from Gangnam Beauty when it comes to personality wise, especially the fact she can be bold at times and seem awkward around people which I can totally relate to. As for Non-kdrama character, I think maybe Quentin Coldwater from The Magicians, he’s a sad little person who battles with depression like I do. I can relate to him which makes me so uncomfortable haha.

    3

    I am a cross between Healer’s Ahjumma and BTIOFL’s Se-hee.

Non-k-drama, probably Chidi from The Good Place.

    7
    1

I’ve started making my mother watch The Good Place, and she is 100% Chidi, down to the directional insanity. She literally changed her mind three times about dinner in the three minutes it took us to get out of our neighborhood and hit the main road last week.

      5
      1

Oh wow, that’s a lot of changes! I can’t imagine how you dealt with your mother’s indecision.

        2
        0

I think I’m most like Park Shin Hye at the beginning of Flower Boy next Door or Min Gyu at the beginning of IANAR.

    7
    0

ooOo! This is such a great question—but a tough one for me! I don’t know if I have a “final” answer, but I have had the thought before that I’m most like Heo Im (Kim Nam-gil’s character) from Live Up to Your Name, Dr. Heo. I feel like I’ve got that same competent-but-odd/quirky/lost/out-of-place vibe going on. And I can be kinda hyper at times. Also I’m a time traveler from Joseon.

    4
    1

Hmm…Yoo Eun Jae from Age of Youth (Season 1 only) + Woo Seo Ri from 30 But 17.
And for non K-Drama…Luna + Ginny from Harry Potter.

    2
    1

    I can’t think of anything’s that’s close to me.
May be a bit like Yoon Jin-myung (han ye Ri ‘s character) form Age of Youth. No no, but am not that hard working or diligent. Am very quiet, I keep to myself and my work, am very independent, quite strong in handling problems, not too emotional, takes a lot of time to get close to people, fiercely loyal to those I am close to and I care for them deeply, only my husband has seen my quirky sweet side 🙂

I think that I’m a mix of Daria and Jane from Daria all under a candy facade (I was nicknamed Happy Bunny in high school). For my kdrama counter-part I dont know. I would say…maybe a generic Candy character before the rich guy and the makeover.

Kdrama: Most like Jo Ji Ah
Non-kdrama: Hmmmm…. Honestly can’t think of anything lol

You guys, what’s your 5 currently favourite kdramas? For me it’s:
1. You’re Beautiful (My first kdrama)
2. That’s okay, it’s love
3. Signal
4. Liar game
5. Hello my twenties season 1.

8
43

I refuse to believe Hello my twenties season 2 exists. I wish I could erase it from my mind after that ending and the shy character that got a different actress to portray her. That was terrible.

    3
    1

    1. Dal Ja’s Spring
    2. Reply 1988
    3. Dream High
    4. Prosecutor Princess
    5. Healer

    1

Yay! There is someone apart from me who loves Prosecutor Princess.
      1. Kim Soo Ro
      2. Prosecutor Princess
      3. Goblin
      4. Mirror of the Witch
      5. Triangle

      3
      1

Yep! Prosecutor Princess was a gem that I regretted not picking up earlier. 💔 It was competing with the giant, Iris, and netizen-craze, You’re Beautiful, at the time it was airing, so I brushed this off to the side. Years later, I decided to check it out out of boredom, and omg it was soooo good? 😭 I still love to the this day the plot twist of the romance – all this time I thought lawyer fell for her at first sight that’s why he was always there for her. Loved that cliffhanger when she found out he lived a floor above her. Lol but nope, he wasn’t love struck whatsoever, and that there’s more to it than what he shows 🙃 I also love how the female lead doesn’t care about what others think of her either. She wears what she wants, she decorates her office however she wants. She’s that kind of a beaach that would ask in your face, why… would I have to change for you….. And fell for her too with her character development – how she was so stuck up at first, but started caring about her cases. Ahhh~ so many great things to talk about this drama 😍😍

        2
        1

I agree. I’m a sucker for this type of stories where one of the leads approached the other one with some ulterior motive but slowly but surely their faked friendliness developed into genuine feelings. I loved that they were neighbours often talking on the balcony of their own apartments and that Ma He Ri’s character developed professionally withot losing her playful charm in her private life. ML was as playful as the FL so I found the interactions between them very amusing. My all-time favourite OTP.

          1
          1

Ohhhh TT____TT Feels are coming back, thanks for listing all this! I do remember squeeing on those moments when He Ri would surprise him with little things like noticing he is injured and buys meds for him. In his mind, she is a stuck up, selfish, but the longer he hangs with her, the more he sees that she’s not black and white. The ending was so sweet for me – it was so banal, a kiss on her forehead after taking tons of selfie together, but so beautiful.

You’re Beautiful was my very first K-Drama that I saw live. I remember waking up at 3am my time for 8 weeks just so I can watch the live stream. Would fangirl it even thought I didn’t understand anything 😅 good old days~

I never finished it. I think I have always had a problem with Park Shin Hye!

      1
      1

Huehehehe. I think this was my first Park Shin Hye drama! She is okay for me – not stellar, but I liked some of her dramas. I liked Pinocchio better though than You’re Beautiful.

Anyways, Went crazy over Jang Geun Suk in this drama and how he simply was the star of this drama. Sadly I never saw any of his drama after You’re Beautiful as they didn’t really interest me 😌 This drama also cemented my love for the Hong Sisters before I hate them again. 😖 My love and hate with the Hong sisters.

    Never thought about ranking

    1) Stranger / FoS
    2) Secret Affair
    3) My Ajhushi
    4) Reply 1997 / Chicago typewriter
    5) Coffee Prince

Really, am sure am missing a few!

    7
    1

Mee too. I mean I was soo sure Dal Ja’s spring takes home the gold for me and Reply 1988 crept up to 2nd, but I was iffy about ranking 3-5, I equally loved those dramas.

And yep ranking only 5 isn’t enough! Lol. I had to actually check out dramalist site to make sure I didn’t miss out my top 5 lols.

Reply 1997 is honourable mention for me! I loved it a lot then Reply 1988 came and rocked my list and shot up high in my rank lol. 😅😅

      And Auuugh coffee prince 😭😭

      2
      1

I should give Dal Ja’s spring another chance. Her hairstyle gave me the chills!!

        1
        1

So true! Lol. Loved that part too that everyone hated her hair and repeatedly told her that she looked more of an ahjumma with that style, but she never changed it 😂

Anyways I think what set Dal Ja Spring apart from the rest of the dramas at the time I first watched it was the fact that it talked about women empowerment. The plot was fresh to me where the female was leading a team. She is respected in her profession. Her colleagues rely on her capability. She’s like the ideal career woman who has an apartment of her own etc. But amidst her successful career, she’s clueless about relationship; she overthinks and overacts. And I liked it too that the male lead ended up falling for her first before she did with him. I liked the second couple too – they’re not eye candy, but I liked that the perfectionist stubborn female host fell for immature PD who slept his way through and that they matured together. Ahh~ I’ll stop now, or I might write another essay again lol.

Sae-do’s father telling her she looked like she got struck by lightning made me choke from laughter.

While parts of the show’s story do seem dated and bloated (it did not need to be 22 episodes omg), Dal-ja and Tae-bong as characters and their dynamic were so fresh for the time. A 2000s drama without a jerk male lead is always a welcome surprise.

(P.S. 13infamyss, some of us are watching Dal-ja’s Spring on Rabbit lately! We’re on ep 9. Let me know if you’d like to join!)

@mindy Absolutely! Would want any chance to discuss this drama again. Let me know how it works. I think I created an account, but never got the chance to use it.

A 2000s drama without a jerk male lead is always a welcome surprise.

So True, honestly even to this day, male leads like this are rare, that’s why it becomes an auto-fave if male lead falls for the girl first and is no jerk.
I gotta admit, the extension hurt the drama and I felt it dragged towards the end, but I still love it overall but the messages it tried to come across and yes, the OTP’s dynamic is always ftw for me ^_^

Goblin is my most favourite Kim Eun Sook drama. (Sorry Secret Garden! Your my 2nd anyhow!) I mean it got very frustrating towards the end but its cliffhangers were amazing. My most favourite one has to be that part when the King was revealed. And he sighed sadly. That was simply the best.

        1
        1

And the first episode was phenomenal. This is the only drama I’ve rated both the first and last episode a 10/10. So definitely memorable and the OST is iconic in my eyes.

Honorable Mentions: GIANT (I got halfway through and then life took over and I didn’t finish it, but it was SOO good. My goal is to rewatch/finish it this year); JEALOUSY INCARNATE (the first 9-10 eps bore me, but after ep 10 I am totally in it); OH MY VENUS (My fluff drama. So much cute).

    6

Oh my gosh, Que Sera Sera. That’s a drama I haven’t thought about in awhile. I used to love the theme song to that one.

      2
      2

Augh Que Sera Sera 😭 I watched it after falling for Eric in Another Oh Hae Young. And omg it was so melo, but great melo. It had that The Innocent Man burn for me. I wish I didn’t watch Discovery of Love after – it ruined for me The chemistry that Que Sera Sera couple had😕

I’m blown away by Yeh Suh’s rapid maturity, she’s willing to give up something she considers it as a part of her identity. I dislike Dr Kang’s mother’s behavior towards her son.

5
0

What the heck is wrong with Han Suh Jin? She feared her daughter being expelled more than come forward to tell the truth, how twisted of her!

4
2

not when being expelled has potential of being permanently etched out in your child’s results.. and basically thwarts the entire future..
schools and colleges aren’t kind to those kind of things.. and “being human” – seldom are the cases and the people, where one overlooks the practicality of the things and take a morally bold and correct stand..

more often than not, everyone is looking out for themselves

    1
    1

You may be right but I think the school would be lenitent on Kang Yeh Suh because she didn’t know the test was stolen so it’s not her fault, she could have a second chance to retake a different exam. The fact her mother knew and Yeh Suh found out, the moment she does, I think she would have a good chance to remain in school if she informed her teacher and fired the coach.

      0
      0

I was not expecting Han Suh Jin to find out about Hye Na by the end of 11th ep, I expected the writers would delay it as long as possible and have Hye Na reveal that she’s Dr Kang’s daughter.

1
0

Can’t wait to see how Yeh Bin reacts once she finds out she’s related to Hye Na! I think it would hurt Yeh Bin’s mother more than it hurts Yeh Bin.
