Beanie level: Errand boy

Still hung up on this OTP I’m super invested in… whose romance happened off-screen T_T
(Visualizing the things unsaid to help me move on…)

Need a bit of rant for my peace of mind, so here goes:
There’s a little comfort it’s not an open ending, but guess it takes 2 time jumps with a total of 7 years before people accept these two are MFEO. Although, if Baek Min-jae went to MIT at 10, got off-grid at 12, and 8 years later surfaced in Asung High School as Baek Seung-yoo, it won’t be long until he has to leave her for military service..?
Plus, those last 3 years of time jump just didn’t make sense, is he going to go MIA for years every time he writes a thesis? Is Yoon-su going to relive her life with her dad? And shouldn’t she have at least suspicions about 3Cut-nim who was working on the same problem her dad + Seung-yoo were trying to prove..?
Bottom line, drama should’ve leaned on math and mentor-mentee relationships as their unique premise instead of going to the well-trodden path of another revenge drama. And should’ve had fewer time jumps. And MORE of mathematicians being happy twogether!

I was wondering the same about her not thinking about SY while talking to 3Cut, and it was strange he went MIA while working and I didn’t want her to stay with someone who could care more for Math than for her, but judging from the magazines I assumed he gave up the life of the pure mathematician? (He had already finished the two thesis YS’s father had worked on his whole life, after all).

About the revenge plot, I like to think it was a search for justice, rather than a revenge path (that I’m not fond of).
(Now, Beanies who didn’t watch, don’t read!)

This could explain why they were failing, because they both weren’t fit for revenge, and the fact that their actions led the kids to be better people than their parents, rather than feed the cycle of hatred-search for revenge.

I like your take on the plot, they did emphasize on “freeing” the kids, especially Ji-na, at the end. It’s cute that she and Si-an ending up as chums.
And I didn’t catch the giving up pure mathematician life, but I could definitely live with the idea of both of them concentrating on teaching and nurturing the next great mathematicians!

Did the relationship ever become iffy? I stayed away after knowing it’s a teacher-student relationship though I like both actors

Nothing iffy for me. In fact, the show clung so hard to the “pure” notion, it forgot to give them romance even after the prerequisite time jump ._. There is no established romantic relationship until about 5 minutes of the final episode… (Hope I’m not spoiling this for you!)
It’s definitely due to the actors that I finished the drama.

Thanks for the input! I love them both and I love Math! I’m just worried about the relationship part of it. I guess I’ll give it a try. Thank you!!!

I didn’t even watch this but I see that the Yellow Umbrella once again made an appearance. Because it’s a Kdrama Law …. “If there is to be an umbrella in a kdrama, it must be yellow.”

Although I see Yellow Umbrella’s colorful friends did make a cameo appearance in this show. 🙂

Found a rare breed of second lead who decided to become a shipper ><
And his redemption arc is at least gradual and believable…

    Are you enjoying Melancholia?

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
Am very invested in the OTP, love their complicated background plus I think they are compellingly acted. Can’t say the same for the school corruption/politic/power struggle tho, and there are some stupid people doing stupid stuff, on repeat ._.
Have to admit I’m watching with liberal use of FF button, so yea, am enjoying Melancholia, but maybe about 55-60% only, hehe.

Same about the OTP. Hope we will have a good ending.
I find fun the way Principal Noh is written, like a Disney villain (lighting and thunders when she plots in her office, the red apple!)… I hope it is intentional, but I don’t like the “psycho” scenes like the one with the scissors and Ye-rin or when she seemed to want to crush into her sister’s car.
Save these, I’m enjoying the show, too.

LOL at the red apple! A Disney villain is so apt, she even pets her plants ><
She's so OTT, but I prefer her to Ye-rin, at least she is not wishy-washy about being evil… The show seems to have redemption in store for Ye-rin but I have no sympathy left after all her stupidity.
Am so glad you are still enjoying this, I think there are fewer and fewer of us here in DB… Crossing fingers our OTP will have a happy ending, together!

Yrs, it’s a pity it isn’t loved here, I have to spazz on Twitter.
We HAD a happy ending! The last episode was beautiful and satisfying, I loved it! Did you liked it?

I also get on Twitter to soak up all the love for Baekji ><
I'd like to say I like the final ep, but but but, I just want mooore! We don't even get her to say she loves him too T_T
I assume they are living together in wherever Yoon-su is teaching right now, at least that's a balm for my shipper heart…

I know, I wanted more, too, but I so dreaded an open/vague ending, that I’m super happy the way they wrapped things up.
They are definitely living together; I thought it could be Jeju where YS could have easily worked thanks to Yeon-woo’s help, but SY’s father spotted her walking, so I’m a little confused about this…

Also, so pretty…

Words on how to be a proper, non-stalker-y male lead…
(He was a lame fiancé, but so far seems to be drama’s only character willing to learn from his past mistake…)

My first thought was, ok that’s creepy. Then, oh, she actually knows so they can be creepy together ><
(Don't know why drama is so hung up on the "pure" thing, am okay with them being kinda impure, just saying…)

Just realized the browser tab for Dramabeans now read \”Korean Drama Recaps\” instead of \”Deconstructing Korean dramas & Kpop culture\”. Aw, somehow makes me kinda sad…

Am digging his low-key reaction about her “makeover” compared to the others, it’s always been her personality for him. And love how she didn’t think twice before putting on the squid head! Life has come full circle for her…
