Beanie level: Errand boy

I have recommended Waiting for Romance a few times on this site. With the current Choi Daniel love going around recently I saw it fit to recommend it again 😁

It’s a two eps mini-drama, amd I love it

There was a time when if I didn’t check Dramabeans for one day I would miss at least 3 posts. Sometimes much more. Some of them were only one paragraphe long but I loved reading them so much that I even remember some of them after 5+ years. There was a time when drama and casting news were updated regularly until the premiere day. There was a time when DB had news of celebrity deaths even if they weren’t tragic, and due to old age. There was a time when DB had news of celebrity dating and marriages even if the other party was a non-celebrity. There was a time when there were lovely posts on Korean traditions and expressions. There was a time we got commentaries on meta moments or references in dramas. There were swoony fan-girly posts on army news, interviews, inside jokes, drama reviews, and lots more.

Nowadays my only source of any news, from casting news to awards to deaths to anything I would like to know about is the fan wall which means getting spoilered bigtime on every drama that is airing right now.

I know life goes on and change happens but I miss the old DB SO MUCH. Lately I have been unable to connect with the dramas as much as before because I’m feeling completely out of the loop. My only source of drama deconstruction has always been only DB. And now it is nearly just a forum with a few recap posts.

Thank you JB and GF and all the rest of the staff for a decade of lovely posts. I loved it all and I miss it all. I hope life so happens that we can have at least some of it back. Be well.

Oh my thoughts exactly! Kolorful Palette was one of my faves too. Thanks Midnight, for expressing your thoughts so that I know I’m not the only one who thinks this way. I really enjoy the fan wall but DB, GF and staff are all such clever and talented writers and sometimes you just want to hear it and learn it from them, and maybe get a different perspective of a story too.

Yes, the inside insight we get from their writings can not be compensated by anything.

I miss the year-end review, the post-award-show recap and everything. They seemed to write less than before. I love that we can see them in a video but I still miss their writing T_T

this is my exact sentiments. i too miss year end reviews the most.

not that i dont like fan wall db but there are just few sections that i used to wait for months or years.

      1
      1

Fan wall is nice but when I watch a drama after everybody else I used to go and read the comments. Now most of the rave and rants are lost deep in the fan wall.

completely agree… and do understand your concern….
its just i was never active on DB so cant feel your pain and how much you miss old n gold DB.

I miss the abundance of recaps and wondering where all the minion recappers are…

I’m missing Heads and Gummi. I haven’t see them post anything since last year. πŸ™

i was never active on DB that much to miss anything significantly but yes i used to read posts abt the dramas/actors i follow rigorously. only posts i used to wait were year end reviews and drama award night coverage (with all the shiny images of actors/actresses in their stylish attires).
i am more active on DB now cause of Fan Wall theme as i cab share my love for kdrama as much i want which i can show anywhere else.

but yes i can feel you completely as how you miss the Old DB which was all about the Korean Drama from the eyes if GF and JB while now it has perspectives from a lot more people…. not bad (per me) but yes different than before.

Hi Beanies!

Can anyone recommend Korean movies similar to Midnight Runners, lightly comedic and full of heart? I love romance too but I rather fear too many r-rated scenes.

    The Thieves
    Speedy Scandal
    Like For Likes
    My Little Bride
    Miss Granny
A Hard Day – more Black comedy, but reaaaaally good.

I love Familyhood with Kim Hye Soo – that one’s funny and full of heart

Also Confidential Assignment with Hyun Bin, though it’s a lot more action-y than comedic

In the absence of the Name That Drama posts I wrote a lenghty post describing a scene from a drama that I didn’t remember, and while I was writing suddenly Lee Bo-young’s face came into my mind and I remembered the drama I was asking about is I Hear Your Voice! So… problem solved! 😄

lol… it happens with me loads of time.
i just forget everything, whole plot, story and what remains in my brain is one scene or one dialogue or a snapshot of the leads.. its get troublesome to recall things from there…

Bing-watched Go Back Couple. LOVED it but won’t talk about it because I have read the comments and know that I’m in the minority in WHY I loved the show😁

Question and spoiler in comment.

At the end of the last episode we see dr Hyun-suk in a restaurant cheating on his wife again. Then he sees Ye-rim.

Now here is my interpretation on that scene. He looked so absolutely dumb-founded and kept staring at her in such a confused way that I thought he somehow kinda remembered the alternate timeline where she was his wife. He was definitely much more surprised than having only met his ex after nearly 20 years.

And Ye-rim too, looked much too smug for someone who has just made a brief eye-contact with his boyfriend of two decades ago.

I LOVED that last slap of karma for the doc soooo much 😁. But then I read the recap and comments and it looks like nobody had that impression except me?

I loved that show! One of the best and underrated of 2017 (IMO) I didn’t comment much on the recaps since I was busy gushing over Nam-gil on the beanie wall. 😂

i am not reading the spoilers yet as this in my To Watch list. will surely be back with my inputs after finishing it.

Midnight Runners spoilers in the comments.

WHO said Midnight Runners is funny? Yes, it was funny for maybe a third of its run, but after that it was GUT-WRENCHINGLY heartbreaking!

Oh my god, it was one of the best movies I have seen in many years but I applaud anyone who has been able to sit through it in a theater. I couldn’t. I had to pause it twice and go outside to breathe.

It was beautiful, I thank all the beanies who recommended it, but it was heart-breaking. Perhaps I got too much affected because I didn’t expect it at all.

From the moment that the gang of tugs started hitting and kicking the boys it felt like an awakening call. It suddenly ceased to be funny. I was SCARED! And I think that is exactly what the boys felt and what the movie wanted me to feel. I could feel the two boys’ every heartbeat after that. The scene where the boys practiced and challenged themselves to get stronger was BRILLIANT.

Ok, I think I will take another stroll outside. I need it.

I totally agree with you!! I did say it was funny but I stopped there because I didn’t wanna ruin anything for anyone. The movie did deal with darker themes that were hard to watch. It did venture into the creepy alleys to expose the lives of organ traffickers and all the nasty things they do after kidnapping young girls. It was heart-wrenching to watch those girls in pain, along with our heroes trying their damnedest to rescue them.

But like you said, it was a beautiful movie that was critical of the police force. It allowed our heroes to question their lives (the choices they made) and whether they still wanted to be part of the police. I think what led them to stick with this path was the fact that they cared about those girls in pain. They wanted them rescued.

Yes it was a story about friendship and bromance. Yes, it was hilarious (for the most part). Yet, it was also a story about strength, endurance, passion and determination. It was a story about two young men wanting to get rid of the criminals. It was about them wanting to save people. Not follow the protocols or the higher officers who turned a blind eye to the situation.

I read a comment somwhere, probably in a Lookout recap, a beanie had asked if anyone knows of a non-romance drama where the two leads have great chemistry without having a loveline.

I suggest Partner. It’s an older legal drama starring Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Dong Wook, and Honey Lee. It has no romance except a small hint at a possible one in the future at the very last minute. But the leads have fantastic chemistry with each other, and most of other casts too.

The cases and stories are simple and to the point, and the plot is kept light and fast. It is one of my favorite dramas. Give it a try one day if you haven’t seen it already. 😊

Watching Weightlifting Fairy for the first time. The amount of second-hand embarrassment in this drama will soon be the death of me! 😥

I haven’t felt the magic people seem to have fallen for yet. At ep 5 I just want to crawl and hide into a hole every 5 minutes.

Seeing lots of Lee Seung Gi in army uniform these past few days had me itching for a King2Hearts rewatch.

Ten minutes into the first episode the main OST starts to play and tears spring to my eyes. This music is burned into my subconscious, analogous to tears and heartbreak.

And seeing Hyung’s face is the last straw 💔. It wasn’t supposed to be this way, Heart! I first have to watch the funny goofy first episodes. Why are you playing your tricks on me 💔

Seriously, this is the only reasonI regret not live-watching any dramas: not being able to ask questions about trivial off-topic things that people probably won’t remember after the show has ended! Like this one:

Does anybody rememeber Jealousy Incarnate (or care to look up, I’m embarrassed, I promise!) near the end of episode 12 were Jungwon and Hwashin came to Nari’s rooftop for Jungwon’s birthday dinner. The two were singing a song which sounds SO SO familiar to me but for the life of me I can’t remember where I have heard it before. Can anybody help?

3

Haha! I’ll always remember Jealousy Incarnate! I actually got the urge to watch it today, since it was airing this time last year. Also, I’m pretty sure this is the great thing about the fanwall.

As for the song, maybe you heard it on Go Kyung-pyo’s other drama, Reply 1988? Here it is:

hahaha.. chinguya we have so many similar things.
i regret not to live watch Bag Guy, Shark and LUTYN… and now 2 Cops also.
first 3 cause i cant find anyone seems to be interested in my Spamming Spazzing for Kim Nam Gil….. i Loooooooooooove him and its all lonely on my wall.

2Cops. i had questions and doubts to be cleared… but then i knew people dint like it much so no chance anyone would go back to look in it. so i had to rewatch couple of epi to resolve my queries.

    1
    1

Chinguya! I’ll get back to you after I have watched 2 Cops! And I’m ready to spazz for KNG except I have only seen one drama of him. Unfortunately Shark and Bad Guy premises don’t attract me at all and I’m more a premise drama-watcher than an actor-I-love one.

      1
      1

thats completely fine friend…. i just wish we get one drama of KNG we can live watch n live spam-spaz…
btw i start a drama for plot but if i couldn’t connect with actors by epi 1 end… i drop it… so my priority is always the actors…hehe we have some difference though.

and I’ll be waiting for you to be back after ur inputs on 2Cops

        1
        2

Hmmmm well, I do think I would drop a good premise if I couldn’t connect with the actors too. What I KNOW is that I will skip or drop a drama with an actor I LOVE if it has a horrible plot. I’m scared of ruining my love’s image in my mind! 😁

Exactly…. i dropped Criminal Minds even though i am die hard fan of LJK oppa. and i am not starting Hero cause i know ill curse him seeing doing overacting (dropped it at epi 1)

I’m not much of a music person, but this month’s theme led me to listen to Fate from Damo. WHAT WAS THAT!! 30 seconds in and I’m strongly tempted to watch the drama immediately!

Aaaaand I was immediately spoiled with the ending! No, I don’t think I can go through that. But that song… was gorgeous!

Ooohhh yay! πŸ˜€ Thank you! What drama is this??

He is so cool and collected when he is by himself on that stage lol, but in all the videos with Jung Sang Hoon he is laughing. It’s so cute!

Hi, I need drama suggestions for a friend please! She loves Sweet Spy, City Hunter, and Healer. Can Beanies here suggest similar dramas please? Preferably those that have finished airing. Thank you 😊

Some action dramas like “Two Weeks” or “Heartless City” and if she wants some romance with it, there is “The K2″…

Otherwise, in general, I recommend “Pinocchio” and “I Hear Your Voice”

    2

    Holyland (miniseries, only 4 episodes)
Arang and the Magistrate (more rom-com but with a really great mystical and mystery element)
    I Remember You (Seo In-guk=love)
Runaway: Plan B (Rain and Daniel Henney, kind of an odd-ball spy/thriller story)

Me! Me! I talked about it πŸ™‚ Way back when he got a bad rap from Heirs, I kept saying how much I loved him in Nine. He was so cute and boyish here! I remember thinking he had natural talent. I’m so proud that he’s emerging as a fan favorite now!
