Beanie level: Jang Geu-rae

I told myself I won’t do it. But here I am, finished reading the recaps on The King. I knew I should’ve waited then binged watched! The agony of waiting 4 more episodes!!! 😭😭😭

I hope the 4th installment of the Reply Series ties in the other three. Joon Hee’s noonas can end up with Jung Hwan or Chilbongie. Then I hope they make another installment in 5-10 yrs for their kids.

Didn’t Chilbing end up with Jung Yumi?

Anyway, I was watching Reply 94 clips last night and realized there was a lot of cameos back then! Really long ones too.

Well they didn’t explicitly say. I mean, I wanna see how their stories unfold too. You know, finding their true love after their first love were snatched away

Making an excel file on all the dramas I’ve watched. Very helpful for productivity… like, not to repeat the same drama… unless you really want to~~

Looks fine! But don’t you like mydramalist? That’s what I use to keep track

    0
    1

I second this. I never thought I should keep track of the dramas watched but mydramalist made it easier for me to know what dramas i might recommend someone.

I already have an account at mdl. It’s just that I have a little OCD when it comes to these things. I’m like Na Jung in Rep ’94… or may be like Garbage Oppa? I’m scatter brained elsewhere but crazy meticulous on clerical works and other random stuff >.<

I have one too lol I rank mine as well with my own scoring system

True! I mean, the plot and ranking are there. It shows what you’ve watched and really enjoyed.

      0
      1

Huh? I don’t put the plot on mine. I do rank the plot though…or do you mean on yours you have the plot? I did see you have casts and run time which is cool. I just put the year and number of episodes (in hour increments if it’s only 30 mins for commercial breaks).

        0
        1

Well, not the entire plot just a synopsis. Cause with time you tend to forget. But once I read the synopsis, I remember the story 😀

Re-watching all the Reply Series. I really wish my country (Philippines) would make the same series. I mean, it doesn\’t even have to be a Reply Series, I just wanna enjoy nostalgia in our country too.

It would air for 5 years. Or more. Lol

This! Lol! 🤣🤣🤣 The sad reality. 😥

      1

Sometimes, I wish they would produce stuff the way kdramas are produced. Short and meaningful. So tired of all the kidnapping and over the top things Filipino dramas do. There are so many good writers, directors, and actors out there. They are creative and can hold their own. They just don’t do it or the public does not appreciate well done dramas/movies.

Rich history too! They could use that for inspiration. I get so jealous watching sageuk. I wish the Philippines can do something like that, ignite the love for the country. 🙁

        2
        2

True! I mean, we study them year after year since first grade. It would be so good to see a Filipino version of a sageuk!

And it would be so fun seeing the leads take on the trends back in the days, like Jolina’s hair do. ASAP every sunday and such. I mean, they have Sechkies, H.O.T. and g.o.d., we have Street Boys, UMD and Manoeuvres. Then Aegis! I mean, there is so much that they can do with all that!

Dramas in the Phil right now is too predictable. With the kidnapping, revenge, sibling vs sibling, family vs family *sigh*

          1
          1

Yooooo I kind of want to see Noli and El Fili live action! That’s 2 seasons right there lol.

OKAY. PH SAGEUK, LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK!!

Watching Chicago Typewriter and Mr. Sunshine especially made me so mad we don’t have more historical shows. Our history is so rich with content but we don’t get to explore it!

How did we live before the Spanish entered the country? I studied pre-colonial history in college, and was so fascinated with Sultanates, it’s more or less our version of royalty! And it would be set in Mindanao too, so hopefully this would bring about more conversations and openness to an otherwise very taboo topic.

Colonial PH is really interesting too! I know they did a mini series of Rizal but it wasn’t prime time so I think it didn’t really fly. But if you use the Heneral Luna case, people actually learned a lot, and enjoyed it! So there’s definitely a market for it.

And you’re right about the love of country. Like any relationship, you need to know more about your history – how people fought and suffered to get us to where we are now, how they lived – to really love it. You need to be constantly reminded of if in the media. Without that, especially at times like these, you get apathetic people like Cat Arambulo who just don’t get if. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Sorry – this has been on my mind for a REALLY LONG TIME. HAHAHA

          1
          5

That is so true! I mean, we even have Rizal’s Life & Works in college! And yet people can’t do more of the stuff that we need to learn. I mean, some shows have lessons like “May bukas pa” and such, but others… they tend to be the same plot over and over.

We also have Readings in Philippine History! I would really love to see the sultans and hopefully they can show it the way that we studied it. The laws, the life style, the clothes and the royalties!

            2
            0

@moonlightmaester Yes!! People complain about the film industry dying when they can make better films that’s familiar to us, that will help us appreciate our history and culture, and will make us love the country more.

            0
            0

@earthna and that’s why I got so triggered when that certain film director did that tweet about kdramas and the future of film. EXCUSE ME? (1) You’ve clearly never watched a drama in your life (2) Get angry at your colleagues, or rather, the networks and producers for not giving the level of quality content the Filipino people deserve!

(okay, I’m starting to get triggered again HAHAHA. I gotta stop)

            0
            0

@earthna @beesgiggle Right! I mean, they complain that we watch kdrama rather than our own dramas but look at what they’re doing! Who would want to watch the same thing over and over?

I mean, look at the sageuk dramas in South Korea, I really do learn more about their history and culture. I even started to learn their timeline and hangul too.

And then there are also medical dramas! And Law dramas! I mean, they even put the unfamiliar terms on screen and describe it so that we can understand! And frankly, the plot twist and character developments makes you want to see the drama from start to finish.

Filipino dramas are too black and white in terms of that. Like, can’t the villain get redemption? Or maybe they ought to stop before they go to the dark ends that you can’t come back from. I specially like women who can hold their own at kdramas, we don’t usually have that here. And when women fight here, it’s always for their family, I wanna see them fight for their selves. Like, family is a part of your happiness, but it’s not just bound to your family. Most times they depict women’s worth tied only to their families.

@beesgiggle @moonlightmaester I feel you both! It’s not like I don’t want to support the industry (mehh can never get indie films here in Canada though), it’s just that they are making it hard for us to support. I check out dramas from time to time. They start out nice then end as disappointment.

So true for sageuk!! If King Sejong the Great was an idol, I would have been his biggest stan.

      Yeah! Like Mara Clara! Lol!

I agree! I guess the nearest drama with kdramas are the short ones like Please Be Careful with My Heart and the likes.

Circle just blew my mind. I don\’t know if it\’s good that I marathon all 12 episodes today or I should\’ve watched when it was airing! I still wish for season two!!! 😀

I did the same thing this weekend and I’m still processing all of the information. Season 2 is needed now.

    1

Yeah! That feeling when you finished it but it’s still just sinking in! Haha. Season 2 is much desired because that ending… they better follow it up! It would be nice if there’s a new alien that could be Ho Soo’s new girlfriend 😀

Will you be doing a circle marathon?

Yup, but I’ll have to start tomorrow. I still have projects to finish so I’ll watch it all tomorrow 😀

      1

Well best of luck to you then. The plot and acting is over the top. It’s the best sci Fi Kdrama. I would suggest you to watch 3 eps per day. Some of the people I know who binged it had headaches, mental breakdowns and extreme withdrawal syndromes. I watched it live so I wouldn’t know 😀

        0
        1

Whoa. You mean there are several plot reversals right? I love mysteries so I waited for it to finish. Unfortunately, I think I will have to suffer through the marathon tomorrow cause it’d be the only day I’m free. I trapped with work and school for the next days so I have to binge watch. Wish me luck 😀

Guys… any suggestions on dramas I can binge-watch? I\’ve been looking for some good ones.

2
12

I could name… a lot, however, I’m not sure what you like. Dramabeans does have a pretty good rating system. (I agree with most of it.) Go to the bottom of the screen and hit resources then go to drama ratings. What popped into my head was School 2013. (I have no idea why.) Happy binge watching!

    0
    1

Thanks! I didn’t know about dramabeans’ rating system! 😀

I haven’t watched any of the ‘School’ series. Thanks for the suggestion. 😀

What kind of shows do you like?
I’ve got anywhere from Marriage Contract to Chief Kim to I Remember You to Shopping King Louis that I could suggest lol

    1
    2

Seconding this and adding Jealousy Incarnate and Weightlifting Fairy…

But there are just way too many shows worth recommending and it also depends on what you have already watched, what genre you like etc..

      1
      1

I have watched Jealousy Incarnate and Weightlifting Fairy too. It actually kinda suck but I don’t have any specific genre that I like… I literally watch any given suggestions to me and I actually finish it even if it’s not that good.

I kind of have Chanyeol’s personality. I have to see something to the end no matter what.

        0
        1

Oh then watch Weightlifting fairy and jealousy Incarnate for sure… I really had fun watching them and I have not yet heard anyone say anything bad about them..

Watch them and then ask for more recommendations otherwise you will have too many shows to watch at the same time!

          0
          0

I have watched Chief Kim, I remember you and Shopping King Louis. I haven’t seen Marriage contract though.

I… actually don’t have any specific genre that I like.

      0

If you haven’t I suggest Chicago Typewriter. What genres do you prefer?

    1
    1

I watched that already… and damn, I cried a river in the latter episodes of the drama. Yoo Ah In have been so hot in 1930’s! 😀

And well, I don’t have a specific genre in mind~

Have you been reading the catnips? I leave those articles with at LEAST two dramas every single catnip that I obviously need to binge at some point in time. And the authors so handily have chosen the best of the catnips to tempt us with. That seems like a good place to look for a new drama.

    0
    1

I have read every single catnips and I agreed to every one of them. I haven’t read the comment parts though. The drama’s that have been suggested in the catnips are drama’s that I’ve finished watching already :'(

Oh… there is a catnip that I loved more than the rest… the catnip about Very Bad Boys! 😀

      0
      1

Well aren’t you just a person after my very own heart? Try reading the comments. Beanies always have a truckload of dramas that the authors didn’t put in the articles. Or, when I find myself in a slump (since I’m STILL shy of two years of drama watching) I do a search for top 100 kdramas or whatever and I read the blurbs for the ones that I haven’t seen yet. Or, I go to a streaming site and start in the #’s and every thumbnail that looks interesting I read the summary and then come back to it if it sounds good.
