Beanie level: Noble idiot

#SLOMS: This drama tries to be as realistic as possible… regarding fish health.
(hope I haven’t spoiled anything for you fish lovers out there)

Are they covering themselves in case they are challenged by animal rights activists? For cruelty to fish?

    1

I think so, yeah. Maybe it’s the korean equivalent to “no animals where harmed during etc etc”. Or koreans now exactly how fish die and are appaled if it isn’t shown correctly…. so they had to get it 100% right. Ok, I think you are right and it’s the first option :))

#SLOMS: How can Do Min Ik be so dim and still be director of a company? The chemistry, acting and Veronica Park still saves this drama, but that writing takes some SERIOUS suspension of disbelief!

HPL, small details I loved in the last ep: They both go abroad! Why don\’t other dramas think of that? She will pay! He will call their parents regularly (had to laugh)! The curators date, finally <3

I even loved that Eun Gi said he will call Da In when she goes back to NY. So obvious – they’re friends, yet most dramas make it seems like all contact ends if you move away. lol

In kdramaland things like FaceTime or video chat are non existent. That makes me wonder what their brand new looking 10th gen phones are actually for…

haha, you’re right. I think they are just for taking selfies to gaze at during intense moments of wistfulness 😀

I binged Her Private Life, and while the relationship is great, so equal!, I\’m rather unhappy with Deok Mis growth. (continued in comments)

She said that she cries regularly because she can’t be an artist, and she takes a lot of time to help Ryan to draw again, but she herself gets the short straw. Yes, curating can be an art and this isn’t to diss curators, but she wanted to be an Artist! And she already took these photographs that everybody praised. After they went to see the novelist and his photographs of love I really thought she would go abroad to learn photography (don’t know why you have to go abroad to become an artist, but kdrama be kdrama).
It’s just – Ryan Gold is a great character, but that was a lot of manly tears about his lost abilities but not a lot of helping Deok Mi to become an Artist in her own right.

K-dramas always do this thing of prioritizing the man’s needs, and treating that of the woman as secondary. It’s incredibly frustrating.
Even more so when you think about PMY’s character in WWWSK.

I would love to see a rom-com where the woman isn’t somehow portrayed as the one who “heals” the man’s wounds and trauma, and is given some real character development.

      1

oh yes, you put it so eloquently, thank you! And dont’ remind me, poor Secretary Kim! It’s even more frustrating when you consider that romcoms have mostly female viewers, some very young, who get to watch those gender dynamics as an ideal romance.

I loved PMYs character arc in Healer(Spoiler), where the happy end involved her being a successful journalist with him being very happy as her second in command.

I agree with you! 🙂 I mean, they are both noble in the best way and very naive in matters of the heart, so I can see how he thought that that would be the best for her. But I still wish they would have discussed it like they discussed everything else, because then they could have at least decided together.

Knowledgeable Beanies: Do you know why Junho is getting leading roles but Chansung is always supporting? I like them both and I just was curious because they are the same age and… group 🙂

I feel Junho’s acting is way better than Chan-sung and so he’s getting leading roles which he deserves.
Chan sung is still sharpening his skills.

Oc Taec, Chansung and Wooyoung debut in acting first compare to Junho. But, Junho take different route, he start in big screen and has good review for his act. His experience in big screen with many famous co-star give him chance to explore his talent and when he made debut in small screen, he always choose good drama with good rating. That’ why his journey to take lead role in small screen is faster compare to the others.

Thank you! I see your point, that he did a great job choosing projects (combined with his abilities of course). In the end it’s always a combination of looks + abilities + strategy, and he seems to be excelling at all 😀

Yes, in one interview he said that when his group member made debut in acting or solo, he does nothing. He feel desperate to figure out what he is best with. He is not confidence enough to made acting debut, so he does nothing. But he learn how to acting in his free time. He is luck to meet sunbaenim such as Han Hyo Jo, Jung Wo Sung, etc to made him learn about acting.
And yes, with the right project, he can show many things that somehow Knetz forget that he is an Idol.

From what I’ve seen of the 2PM members’ acting, Junho just has a much bigger range and has picked good projects recently. He seems very naturally gifted.

Chansung is good but I feel like he can only play certain character types right now, and he excels at the slimy/annoying/egotistic/comedic types. I don’t think he’s got the gravitas and subtlety that Junho has. Yet!

Taecyeon… needs to improve. His handsome face can only get him so far in the acting industry right now. 🙂

chansung is hilarious as a doofus!

thanks for your explanation! Now that I think about it, Chansung really only plays a certain type – but he is very good at that 🙂 After all the beanies nice answers to my question I have to watch more of junho! And yeah… didn’t even think of Taecyeon, who is … his own class of face to acting ability ratio 😀

Haven’t seen that! But I’ve heard such great things, I think I will! Thanks four your answer!

I really, really hope the overall theme of pretty noona will be \”love conquers all\” and not \”societal expectations ruin everything\”. I still feel this drama could go either way.

I couldn’t continue watching because subs, but I feel like I’d have stopped watching either way because the angst was bound to come, and I didn’t want 10 eps of that (which I felt was where they were headed). I, too, have a feeling it could go either way, and I’m currently just not in the mood for that type of story!

    1

Yeah, I’m currently debating stopping too, but I’m already swept up in their story, so I think I will keep at it and hope for the best. Ah, the perils of live watching 🙂

According to Ye-jin their drama is about protecting love so there is a huge possibility that they may win.
They are tackling both because one relates to the other and I do enjoy cheering for change.

yay, you give me hope! thank you! (can you tell that I’m in too deep :))

“It’s dangerous beyond the blanket”. This is such a cute variety show. The first episode is just them avoiding having to and then clumsily introducing themselves. It’s like introvert-only big brother.

OMG, the sad music has started for her too.
I’m so torn between wanting those two to be happy or having another round of that perfect sad music…

The sad music that played every time we saw his scenes was just perfection 😆

My verdict on Bride of Habaek: They had enough material for a mini drama a lá Splish Splash Loe, but they inexplicably turned it into a 16 episode show…

Is there a drama where the second lead woman get\’s the guy?

I know there are ones where the guy gets the main girl, but the other way round?

5

As far as I recall, no. Even if the heroine died, the second female lead will never get the male lead. Hopefully we will get one this year lol. #justiceforsecondfemalelead

that would be kinda cool, right? Not one of the crazy ones though 🙂

I suspect Manhole may end up giving the guy to the second female lead.. that is of it manages not to get cut..

I love how Habaek waits for So Ahs affirmation every step of their romance. I think its because he has been burned in the past. like, 1200 Years in the past, but still…

people, I\’m binging Bride of Habaek and it\’s very bingeable. My newest theory: So Ah isn\’t the servant (see post below with the parents). But I\’m not sure of the significance of that…

The God\’s Servants only have one child and the spouse will die shortly after? But So Ahs parents lived at least to her teen years? Is that significant? #brideofhabaek
