My 10-y.o. self had no idea (more)

Holy cow! A totally un-PC blast from my formative years, after I was already warped by exposure to Dad’s 78 RPM Spike Jones records. My 10-year-old self had no idea there was an entire album of this stuff. (Neither did my present halmoni self.)

I had the 45 RPM single, which was a massive hit. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest inspired the song. The movie didn’t come out until 1975.

Track 16, “I Owe A Lot To Iowa Pot,” @29:56 is a paean to buying American. LOL! (Years later, The New Riders of the Purple Sage went on to sing about the charms of Panama Red.) But what it really reminds me of that old TV commercial for denture adhesive in which an older person rues being unable to eat tasty Iowa corn on the cob, so another elder offers “Have some nice Iowa squash.” How do I remember this trivia?!
