After finally watching GOBLIN \”properly\”, as in, in the rainy season, in the mood, relaxed, attentive, dedicated and daily, I\’ve come to an important conclusion.
Gong Yoo is the Korean Shah Rukh Khan.
Yup. Nobody can convince me otherwise.😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

11
16

    This made me laugh!

But to me Ji-sung is the Korean Shah Rukh Khan, I feel they have a very similar style of acting, I don’y know, but Ji-sung always reminds me of SRK!

    5
    2

Ohhh I think I can think of a reason! Or multiple reasons.
Perhaps it’s their unusual, not-standard good looks that most people would not recognise at the 1st glance but EVERYBODY would recognise and fall head-over-heels after mere episodes?
And their effortless, natural gentlemanly-ness and natural, effortless commanding on-screen personality?
Piercing, yet at the same time so kind and so tender gaze?
      Tallness?
*faints from the effects of re-imagining all the good qualities of the best middle-aged actors.

      2
      1

If you could think of a reason means you’ve already thought about this!
So I did a good job convincing you? LOL!

        1
        1

Hahahhahhah both of these made me laugh!
Despite my love for kdramas and many K-actors, I never found anyone equal to SRK. There might be better actors then him but no one matches that magnetic charisma he has!

I do have to agree though that Gong Yoo’s popularity and Ji-Sung’s acting prowess does match SRK’s!

      3

hah – I thought the same thing the first time I watched Gong Yoo! Finally someone else sees it!

These two images are what sealed it for me.
That tired, but endlessly soft look!…

Back when I was a teenager, before Kdrama, I was hooked on the Bollywood industry and the movies it offered. I remember talking to one of my very first internet friends who happened to be Indian and when I mentioned I was a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan, she told me he had the reputation of being an asshole. I remember being so disappointed because I found him to be such a mesmerizing actor. I didn’t even try to confirm. I just assumed she’d know better – she‘s Indian and lives in India.

Just remembered that I once worked with this lovely doctor whose name is Szarukan. He’s Hungarian. I asked him on my last day with him if he knew the famous actor Shah Rukh Khan and also thought their names sounded alike. He didn’t know him but he found it so fascinating that he had me show the nurses and some doctors the google page.

      1

I don’t know who Shah Rukh Khan is but if he looks like Gong Yoo, I’m a fan! And I agree that if Gong Yoo was walking down the street and I saw him before I knew who he was or what he’s capable of, I probably wouldn’t take a second glance. Well, I might take a second glance because he’s tall, but otherwise, he’s just so normal to me. But then he does things with his acting that take him to another stratosphere. You’ve said it well.

    3
    1

GASP then let’s correct this immeadietely asap!😮
Shah Rukh Khan aka King Khan, is one of the most experienced, beloved and respected actors in Bollywood.
Yup, just like Gong Yoo, he doesn’t look like your average handsome Ajusshi at the 1st glance. When he starts acting……yeah..no words.
I’ve heard somewhere when he 1st went to auditions, the directors and people said he’s too “ugly” for the lead roles and offered him villain roles. SRK has accepted those roles without a complaint even when the actors who were offered those roles previously saying; “This role doesn’t go with my onscreen persona”.
So you can now see where Shah Rukh Khan is TODAY.
      .
I recommend the movie “Khabi Kushi Khabhi Gham”.
Nothing can go wrong with that one, I assure you, for it’s a timeless family movie, and it’s not draggy and completely worth your time. Plus apart from SRK there are at least 5 more BEST ever Bollywood actors, so you get free intro to them too!😄

Mission Kimbap is a success! I know it looks very amateur, and I was impatient so I whipped up a quick potato and prawn filling instead of making it colorful. But I know I’ll improve so I’m happy😅😄!

Rookie Historian Gu Hae-ryung ep 5-6
I’m in love with the adorable rookie squadron who are fumbling about and hopping around like little sparrows! In those blue uniforms they look so cute, no wonder the Sunbaes gave in 😉. And I’m in love with the Crown Prince (though he’s a bit screamy and jumpy) and his answer to Hae-ryung’s scientific answer. So practical. Even though I wasn’t a big fan of Shin Se-kyung before, I’m in love with her hasty Sageuk speech, I also love her and Orabeoni’s relationship, which is making me want to go back in time and be reborn as He-ryung LOL.
I’m ALSO in love with allll the servants in this drama. It’s the 1st time I’m seeing this dynamic after Arang & the Magistrate. And the hazing ritual/initiation is soo real!! I can’t believe they actually asked for it
However, Grand Prince Dowon (Cha Eun-woo) seems to be in a separate drama, much like his lovely otherworldly palace, with the intriguing Ho-dam plot acting as his only serving grace.
Now I can totally see why this is the lovechild of SKK Scandal and Dae Jang-geum. The thing is, up until this (double)episode(s) I wasn’t able to see it clearly and it’s marvelous @mary saw it in the pilot episodes. Kudos, mary! And Thank You so much 😘💕

I do! While watching this episode I was smiling from an ear to ear it nearly hurt.
I’ve a feeling this drama is not going to dissapoint us. I mean, usually after watching a good pilot ep I always say something like; “Fingers crossed. Please don’t let us down later, drama!”, but here I don’t even feel the need to.

This morning I dreamt of going to a party wearing a custom-made dress only to discover two other people wearing more or less the same dress.
Ugh. I dream so crappy dreams.
Last week I dreamt of the end of the world, and sun was coming straight through ozone creating a multicolored Aurora in the daytime above my house. I tried to snap a photo of it but it melted the camera.
I know it doesn\’t make any sense because my corneas should\’ve been melted before the camera..but oh well.
Is there a method to prevent dreaming altogether?

2
2

Instead of not dreaming, why not try and take up lucid dreaming?

    2
    1

I looked it up, and wow..it looks intriguing and scary at the same time. Like..one step wrong and you catch a whole lot of brain related issues.
And I believe I always knew I was dreaming when I dream. Like…a part of me always expects to wake up sometimes.
The thing is I don’t wanna dream at all, regardless the dreams are pleasant or not. What I prefer is a blank, black slate while I sleep. Otherwise it’s very tiresome for me.☹️

Reminiscing OSTs I played over and over again- Part 6

My Eden by Yisabel- GU FAMILY BOOK
The memory was slightly tarnished by the memory of seeing Isabelle performing this in a sports arena and a moved player was tearfully nibbling his plastic teeth-guard. Seriously, who the hell is the cameraman? He should learn more about where to point his camera, because it ruined the whole effect.

Hello hello hello! Long time no see!
I too was on semi-hiatus, and I was dropping RECAPS left and right, let alone dramas. I recently watched DEAR MY FRIENDS, then live-translated to mom, now live-translating to dad. I’ll be live-translating to anybody who will sit down and be patient in the future too, for that’s SUCH a great drama that EVERYBODY should watch.
I’m also watching SKY CASTLE with mom, and am on ep 8. It’s REALLY unbelievable, their edu. System.
Before all that, mom and I watched LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, and that too is a drama I’d love to translate for anybody, except it’s 50 episodes.😔 It’s a great drama for any Asian child to show to their parents, if the child wishes their parents to not be anti-gay. For the drama shows everything in a highly Asian, heartrending perspective.
      I think I was mildly successful!☺💪
      .
When all the good dramas have ended and you’re waiting for another to happen, good OSTs are my chingu, that’s why.
How about you? Why’d you lost your way?

      1
      1

Ooh good to know that you’ve beemy busy offline.
I dropped both dramas & recaps as well as did nothing much in rl except eat & sleep.
I’ve barely followed anything except i started Angel mission do I’ve decided to see it through. I’m kind of in a slump, i hope this drama & the upcoming IU drama will pull me out.

You understand Korean though?😮 It’s such an advantage you wouldn’t need to wait for subs.

Also Peony, you were never on rabbit right? I’m sure you knew…
Well the rabbit is soon gonna die & beans have moved to discord, won’t you come on discord Peony?🤗 Would love to chat with you in real time once in a while (I’m not that active on those forums either)

        2

You dropped SKY CASTLE and DEAR MY FRIENDS?? But waay? Sky Castle I can get to some extent, but DMF…is like one of the most perfect mini dramas ever made?? Oh well, I guess you had your reasons.
I’m thinking about dropping Angel’s too. When you realise you’re forcing yourself to watch something, even if it’s when only a single episode left, one should stop. Because at least one hour would be salvaged!
I’m crossing my fingers over Hotel del Luna too😃.
          .
Omg no! I translate eng subs to my mother tongue, additionaly translating the ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY BUT SADLY DISREGARDED Korean words like Unni, Oppa, Mom-in-law, Sunbae.
          .
Yes I knew about Beanies’ Rabbit gatherings, it’s impending death and moving over to Discord, and OMG I’m so, so honored you invited me and thought I’m worthy of a conversation! But…I don’t know a SINGLE thing about Rabbit nor Discord nor live chatting nor how all that work. Are those apps? If you tell me how I’d love to try out once in a while. I only know how to work my way through DB, WordPress, fanfiction.net, AO3 and Tumblr😅 you see.

          1
          1

            Hahaha your reaction! 😄
No no. I didn’t drop those dramas, i meant that I’m neither keeping up with dramas (in general) nor following recaps on db.

And ofc I’d invite you & love to talk with you 🤗

I can’t work my way around rabbit & discord either. The tech beanies have always handled stuff & i merely joined the group chats or group watches.
            Also, you know your way around WordPress 👀 (I don’t) & I don’t even know what AO3 is 😅😂

I’ll tell you what i know for now 😅
There is an app (both for phone & desktop) for discord but I’d recommend you to just open it in your pc browser to check it out first.
This is the link to the post about discord group by bammsie:
            http://www.dramabeans.com/members/bammsie/activity/820970/
There is another link in that post which will redirect you to the group on discord.
You just need to sign up first & then you’ll be in, the chat groups (with names) will be clearly visible in a list in the left bar of the page. Currently there are a total of 11 groups (all visible & open, unlike the groups on other forums where you need to be invited first) but the main group is ‘beans central’ & at anytime some kind of chat goes on, feel free to jump in & out of any chat. Look around & get accustomed. You can find members in search bar, I’m fatcat there as well ^^
You can dm me, but also if you face any problem after signing up, just tag me here & I’ll dm you there & we can live chat 😁

And since grp watch hasn’t yet started on discord, I don’t know how that works.

That’s all i know for now. Do tell me once you try it 🙂

            0

Also, I hope all is well with your life now, and whatever may have pushed you into just sleep and eat, it’s over now.🤗

The STUPIDEST moment in my life.
.
I’m having my 1st sleepover(when I’m technically an adult, sad I know), and the very second I entered my friend’s house their 2 & half feet tall dog(who actually only has friendly intentions) approached me, and I’m scared of dogs so I hid behind friend’s mom, and the dog thinks it’s a game and he followed me, I skirted around mom and he continued to follow me, I sped up and the dog sped up too, and we ran around in circles around friend’s mom and somehow I (magically!)managed not to scream. REALLY good impression I made there in front of her whole family. Then I scram-ed upstairs to take a wash, and the curious dog came up and sniffed outside the bathroom. Later, I collected myself and promised myself I would stay calm because the dog clearly means no harm and he’s tame (never barks or snaps teeth), and they wanted us to get along. But the second I came face to face with him once again, I repeated the procedure; this time around friend’s little sister!! They managed to hold the panting dog, and I ran upstairs. I spent the rest of the day locked up in the room. 🤦‍♀️😫😭😭

8
13

Aww. I know it’s hard but the best thing to do with dogs who are friendlier than you want them to be is to completely ignore them, just pretend they don’t exist. After a few minutes they usually catch on and will give you space. Hope your next visit goes better!

    2
    1

I know I know! But it’s super HARD to ignore him when he comes thundering down at you! Especially when my friend has already said his preferred befriending method is jumping on you!

      1
      0

I feel you! I’m terrified of dogs. Like, I think they are cute and all, but I just get panicked around them. All animals actually:( I tell my parents that it’s because they never let us have pets so all animals that come up to me send of warning signs in my brain. Fighting!

    1
    2

Ooh. My parents never let me have pets either, but their reasoning I understood. They didn’t approve caging animals. Non-caging animals like cats and dogs, mom and dad both had them as pets when they were kids, and they explained how they were unable to go on trips/vacations without worrying about the pet nonstop, and it was hard to find a way to keep it fed and toilet-ed when they went to school and grandparents went for jobs. They said it was unfair for the animal.
I think my extreme fear generated when I was a kid, a dog acted like he was harmlessly sniffing around me but actually bit me, and I had to be shot with all sorts of injections.

      1
      1

I see. For us, it was more we couldn’t afford a pet. My trauma was that there was a stray dog that roamed our apartment building and apparently camped out underneath the stairs. To little six year old me, he looked liked a huge wolf. One day while I was outside alone, it came out of its hidding place and barked at me and I ran away from it, so naturally it chased me. I ran so fast I left my sandals behind. It was so scary! I’m a little better around dogs now, but I can not stay cool around the jumping ones. My fight and flight response is always run away, hehe.

        1
        2

Oh my gods. Poor you. Yesterday the doggie chased me upstairs and I ran like my life depended on it. I still don’t know how I managed to slip inside the room and shut the door.☹️

          1
          1

♦️♦️ATTENTION, Bookworm beanies who are Mortal Instruments fans!♦️♦️

.
The Red Scrolls of Magic is like the dream of every romantic bookworm who’s an ideal tourist by heart who wants to go explore all kinds of exotic sceneries, but hates the tedious process of travelling itself and much rather stay at home READING about places if she can’t afford an easygoing, smooth modes and methods like Magnus Bane does!
Oh my gosh, from since the opening, I’m bombarded with lavish descriptions of lavish surroundings, indoor and outdoor, food, clothes, drinks, weather, climate…. it’s so dreamyyy!!
The shameless and generous servings of these descriptions are so overwhelming at times, to the point I cannot read the book nonstop but take it in small portions, savoring each and everything, and occasionally going to kitchen and making myself some satisfying snack just so I won’t mouthwater at the next Malec dining scene!

The other best thing about this book? Jung Shin-yoon/ Shinyun Jung. OMG you don’t know how much I love it when Western authors include Asian characters in their books, and generally put attention on the beauty of traditional Asian customs and history- no matter how slight it might be.
As an avid Korean History and K-drama fan, this is the second time I am pleasantly surprised and absolutely delighted, feeling like I’m having best of both worlds, a cocktail of two of my most favourite but polar-opposite things. (The 1st time being Rick Riordan presents- Yoon Ha Lee’s Dragon Pearl, which is a blend of Traditional Korean mythology and Sci-fi AU)
To make the matters EVEN more great, I know JUST the actress/character to play Shinyun Jung in my head. Cheok Sa-gwang(played by Han Ye-ri) from the epic Six Flying Dragons.
●Steely, beautiful and little-to-zero-emotions face? Check.
●Master Swordfighting skills and use of samgakdo swords? Check.
●Regal demeanour and grace? Check.
●Immaculate white robes? Check.
.
Imagining Cheok Sa-gwang as Shinyun Jung felt seamless.
.
Having finished more than 2/3rds of the book, I can’t help but wonder whether Cassie Clare and Wesley Chu wrote Shinyun Jung with Cheok Sa-gwang in their mind.
.
Right now, my head is filled with the gorgeous ensemble of Bucolic scenery, Classic monuments from various cities, Gourmet cuisine, Tuxedos, Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr. and Han Ye-ri.
OH. HELL. YES. Gimme moooree!!!!
.
And the BEST and the most important thing is, the little book is absolutely darling, enjoyable and witty from the beginning to the end.

I want a tv show of the Clockwork Angel trilogy prequel. Or whatever that was called. I loved Magnus, Will, Jem and Tessa. I thought it was one of the most tightly written things Cassandra Clare has written. She tends to be meandering. I get that the Shadowhunters is massively popular and all. But I wish she would move on to a different world. Its time for that series to end already. Or it can go on forever. I didn’t continue when Jace and Clary’s story ended and the new shadowhunters were introduced. Something about the way parabati being thrown around all over the place drives me crazy when it was such a small, intense, part in the beginning.

    1
    1

I COMPLETELY agree. When authors don’t let go of their creation when it’s necessary it drives me crazy too, because it dims down the gleam of the previous memories too.
But don’t worry. This book is no such thing. It takes place during the original Mortal Instruments timeline, at the beginning of Magnus and Alec’s relationship and during their romantic world tour.
      No new shadowhunters or stuff.
Just Magnus, Alec (which I think we never got enough of from the original MI series so I don’t complain) and a Cheok Sa-gwang warlock.
It’s a really enjoyable snippet. You don’t even have to read the MI series, just having some basic knowledge and having watched Shadowhunters TV show here and there would be more than enough.
      .
      Plus, Tessa cameos here!😃😃😃

      0
      2

Oh, thats good to know. Did you watch the tv show? SO BAD! But, it had Harry Shum Jr and good LORD that man is attractive.

        1
        3

Isn’t he? Too bad I can’t fangirl over him too much because he’s married and a dad now, lol. Same goes to Matt. I don’t know why all the actors I like have to be married😂😂!
No I didn’t watch it but I watched enough YouTube video clips and ALL the Malec clips so I’m nearly as good as an actual viewer.
I normally don’t watch any US/Western shows in favor of K-dramas, for reasons you’ve probably already heard of. They are dragging. Multi-seasoned. Plot-driven. Ever-changing plot. TOO much action. Not enough character building.
But Shadowhunters GRABBED my attention, you know? I immediately noticed something different about it.
It was by NO means perfect, they failed to get Jace’s character right, and the plot was messy and unbelievable at times. BUT, they always managed to get their intimate moments, inter-personal relationships and stuff right. For a western drama, I thought Shadowhunters was surprisingly character-driven not plot-driven. It was refreshing. And they managed to score PERFECT actors for nearly ALL the rolls. (Except Jace. But still he is better than movie Jace) Matt Daddario can eye-act and micro-expression like no other (and I was reminded of Lee Jun-ki😝!).
Plus their musical clues were SUPERB and always on-point. The Magnus-interrupts-Alec’s wedding scene is the perfect example, with Ruelle’s War of Hearts in the background.
So basically, it reminded me of a K-drama! I don’t need any other reason than that, right? Plus it’s thousand folds better than the movie, which is saying a LOT!🤣.

          1
          1

@saya once said; “K-drama strengths lie in how they create strong emotional groundings, which means that even if the plot lacks coherence and everything is crazy there’s still something to care about in the characters.”
I think this applies SO well to Shadowhunters too😂. Probably the reason why it has such a strong fanbase!

          1
          4

omg I am being quoted 😱😱😱 thanks @peony haha

Glad to see a book discussion here, though this is a series I don’t read!

            1
            0

@saya lol😂. The honor is totally mine! I *think* it was from that failed LJK-Moon Chae-won drama. The moment I saw this paragraph under the recapper’s comments section, I jotted it down in my notebook for future reference. I think it’s a quite accurate and brilliant summary about the uniqueness of K-dramas.
P.S.- Lengthy rambling about books is ALL I do and know how to do if I don’t have a drama to occupy my online time with, hehe.

            1
            0

Without evidence, I refuse to believe I had anything good to say about the travesty that was Criminal Minds 😂😂 (Oh show, how I hated you!)

But you know I feel that kdramas and YA are essentially the same thing at heart – that is to say, the heart of them is what matters the most, and that they both set out with an intention to make you feel.

            2
            0

@saya Then it wasn’t Criminal minds lol.😅But the quote is definitely yours!
So you mean all Kdramas are like young adult novels? Even the not-young-adult dramas? (Because ALL kind of K-dramas have this character-focused feel I think.) Wow…that’s something I never thought about. It’s quite interesting.
I never thought to compare them to novels, I was merely surprised when an action filled US DRAMA started reminding me of Korean ones.
But then again, that drama is BASED on a YA which is like a K-drama…..WOW! Mystery solved! QED!!
Thanks, Saya😄. So does this mean the key to allure us the viewers to US dramas is basing them on YA?? Well, one can dream, hehe.

I have a feel you’d like Red Scrolls of Magic. It’s not “corrupted” by unnecessary details and characters, just a simple and straightforward little story. I hope you enjoy it😃 if you can find enough time and mood!

Some of the most adorable moments of Life is Beautiful.
Actually, these pictures can’t & DON’T do justice to the actual moments!

2 weeks later and still in the withdrawal from the gorgeous LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, I realized if I were to write an ode, I’d have to write for PAGES!!
You just have to watch it, guys. It’s not the most-perfect-drama-ever, it could’ve cut down the episode count to 40 by removing the unnecessary fillers, but still…it’s one of the most realistic, humanistic and balanced K-dramas I’ve seen. Even the drama reviewers like Thundie and kfangurl found it difficult to describe and summarize this drama, instead opting to simply say; “A story about the day-to-day life of a Jeju-family running a pension”. Actually, I can’t think of a better description.
Some of the MOST heartfelt and genuine scenes I’ve ever seen in kdramaland belong in this drama, as well as the WACKIEST and random-est!
LUV you forever, drama! Especially I respect you, because you got my mom, who’s not a homophobe but a person who always stepped around such topics, cry and smile not only once, but multiple times!
It’s a keeper.

I totally agreed! It’s such a heart-warming family-centric drama that exceeded all expectations. There are so many moments that stole my heart, but the scene that stuck out to me the most is when Tae-sub’s mom defended him to the rest of the family when she told them he had come out. Many tears were shed. Life is beautiful is my go-to drama when I just need some comforting family banters and silly falls down stairs at the end of every episode. XD

Also, ALL the times dad struggled and tried his BEST to embrace his son with EVERYTHING he had…oof.
That struck me a lot. The effect was enhanced by the fact dad being a quiet, placid, reserved person, unlike mom.
ALSO, when mom chose Tae-sub to be her most trusted person in the family to drop her facade become vulnerable at the end of the drama?? Wow. Me and mom were near tears.
      .
Oh yes. End-of-the-episode falling downs. They sometimes got old and try-hard, but sometimes they were SO natural and hilarious. I think they ACTUALLY had multiple trippings while shooting and then they decided to make it an actual thing😂😂.

Ohhh uea when Dad dragged his youngest brother outside after breakfast to yell at him to not antagonize Tea-sub after he came out. And then Dad started crying. And I was a goner. *tears*
        I gotta rewatch this asap!
Oh is that how these falls come about? Haha yea some were hilarious!!!

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL ep 01-10
Such a relaxing piece-of-life drama. No conspiracy, no ulterior motives….just people living as peacefully as they can. Very relatable and realistic people, at that. Nearly everybody are SO lovable, and you can at least understand the others and even love them to some extent.
Ji-na – Precocious to boot!
Ho-sub – He’s the ideal son every mom can dream of. Works hard, helps with anything and everything, fun, energizing….
Dad – Adorable to..wait, is that okay to use that term for an adult? Lol. But that’s how he is. So loving, kind, silent, shy, responsible… My favorite moment was when he uttered; “Honey…I..I..l-love y-you!” and blushes. He was SO awkward, mom thought he was going to sneeze or something.
Mom – Such a great housewife and a mother. Her bickering love-hate relationship with her mother-in-law the Granny is JJANG! However she should’ve understood that her poking into her stepson’s lovelife was too much even by Asian standards! It made everything harder for your already-walkin-on-thin-ice-relationship.
Granny – Grumpy, courageous, no nonsense, I-take-care-of-myself-and I’m-proud-of-it granny. She’s exemplary! You should see her vegetable patch and garden. Blooming Broccoli and yarrow and onion EVERYWHERE!!
Tae-sub – So far the most intriguing character in the drama. His charisma doesn’t help, lol. I mean, it’s SONG CHANG-EUI, how can you not fall in love? But I want my mom to love you too, so Tae-sub, please try to connect/communicate more with your family. Especially with Ho-sub and Cho-rong. They’re waiting with open arms, so don’t close yourself off!!
Kyung-soo – You’re Lee Sang-woo, and you have a mesmerizing “pained-eyes” expression, but right now, you come off as you’re trying to keep Tae-sub on a leash. Sometimes.
Yeon-joo – All thanks to Nam Sang-mi’s natural charm. Otherwise girl, I think you take your grudges bit far.
Little uncle – As silly and annoying as he is, little samchon is not a complete nincompoop himself. He works in the field quite nicely and stuff. But you need to work on your loose mouth, dude!
Big uncle – I see Amogae in him. Or it probably is the Kim Sang-joong effect! Hardworking, strict, but always has enough softness for the ladies of the family. But don’t be so rude to little samchon, uncle. He’s only going to get worse, just to smite you. Not the opposite.
Ji-hye – Managed to redeem herself just a bit a second before I started to think she was highly unlikable. I see you have some deep-rooted insecurity issues, but work on your attitude, girl. ASAP!
Lee Husband – He’s genuinely a good man, son-in-law, dad and a husband, so I wondered why I find him so hard to like too. Then I figured. He never voices his honest views on anything and puts on a façade that also works as a protective shield from others’ possible scorns. With his feelings repressed and bottled up for how long I don’t know, but the end result is he’s not himself but somebody else. Say it aloud if you don’t like something! Others don’t have third eyes!
Cho-rong – She’s a jolly girl, a stark different character than Sargent Jeon in RED MOON, BLUE SUN, but I want more. SO far we’ve only seen you dance and date your heart out!
Grandpa – He’s that despicable being that makes you so frustrated to the point you don’t know what to say except growl and huff incompetently and stupidly. But he’s so pitiful at times..ottoke? I feel sorry for both granny and myself!
.
If you cut out the fillers (who needs in-depth descriptions of construction sites?), this will be one epic family drama. Well it already is, but it could’ve been better.

Oh yes. They were the reason that made me watch this drama in the 1st place, and NOW I can safely assure you they’re one of the BEST things in it. The others being; Mom and dad, mom and Tae-sub, Grandma and Dad with everybody(lol).
Do watch it when you have time. You won’t regret it. Such a realistic and sympathetic drama.

I have some interesting trivia to share with the history beanies. 
So this Haechi apparently is the mysterious “Guardian Dog” mentioned in Ms. Underwood’s 15 Years among the TopKnots ? The book was a gem I found thanks to @bbstl during the Mr. Sunshine era!
Ms. Underwood who later became the trusted physician of Empress Myeongseong, freshly arrived at the Royal gates, states;
These entrances are approached by broad, stone steps and a platform with handsome, carved stone balustrade, which is surmounted as well as the lofty gates by crudely chiseled stone images of various mythological animals. Some ten or more paces in front of these steps, and on either side, are the great stone dogs, so called for want of a better name, for they no more resemble dogs than lions. The story of their origin is as follows: The fire god, it was said, had a special enmity against this palace, and repeatedly burned it down; various efforts had been made to propitiate or intimidate him with little success; at length an expensive dragon was brought from China and placed in a moat in the grounds. While he lived all was well, but one ill-fated day an enemy poisoned this faithful guardian, and that night the palace was again burned. Finally some fertile brain devised these animals, no poison could affect their stony digestion, no fear or cajoling could impress their hard hearts; so there they stand on their tall pedestals—fierce and uncompromising, facing the quarter whence the fire god comes, always on guard, never sleeping in their faithful watch, and, as might be expected, he has never been able to burn the buildings thus protected.

At the time, I thought it might’ve been a Quilin because I hadn’t heard of a Haechi, nonetheless I felt so very sad at the state the Joseon Korea has put herself into, that a foreigner would not be impressed nor would she even bother try understanding the relics of the once-been-mighty kingdom. Of course it’s not her fault, because when the whole country is in shambles…
If Joseon was in half the glory it used to be, the foreigner would at least be slightly interested with the architecture and stuff and care to ask a native; “Hey man, which animal does that statue represent? It’s sort of cool.”
Now(then) a bypasser would only spare a glance at the guardian Haechi and think; “Ah, that’s just a dog!”
😪
Now reading that a whole cool drama is made about the importance of Haechi during the Yeongjo-Joseon….I suddenly recalled how its status fell very low during Gojong-Joseon; only a FEW kings later.
Fall of dynasties is always a sad thing..☹️☹️

I’m moving in, guys! You hear me?

Before I move houses to the Lonely Shining Mansion, I should say a proper goodbye to my buddies the Crown Prince, Eunuch, Bodyguard and officer.
They had been with me when I was a Chaebol Princess-in-law’s Poor Doppleganger. And this also marks my proper transition to the modern era, because Water maid and Eunuch-in-drag were both centuries ago, and for the doppleganger status they came with me to the present-time so it wasn’t any different than being in the actual Joseon.
Since I won’t be allowed to travel back in time anytime soon, (because I’m not much active and Errand Boy status is infamous for not letting people thru, let’s say bye for now! 
