I should have waited to binge this drama. I love seeing their interactions every week. Strong and steady female characters don’t happen as often as they should.

I was so excited for Secretary Kim, but 2nd episode was kind of dissapointing… it’s too cheesy for my taste with no depth! I still try to give it a 2nd chance and watch 2 more episodes 🤞

I find some of the review of Lawless Lawyer ep 6 really offensive… I agree that the romance in LL was a bit fast-track (actually the whole drama is fast-pace in comparison to traditional k-drama pace), but HJY is such a smart and mature heroine, and she was the one who initiated the physical contact with the hero, because she is the type who knows exactly what she wants, and she’s quite bold and upfront… For people who haven’t watched the drama, they might think that the hero forced himself to the heroine or used the her vulnerability to satisfy his own lust, while it is 100% incorrect… I initially tried this drama for its thriller/revenge theme and wasn’t expecting to have any comedy or romance elements, however I found both comedy and romance parts really well-done if not the best part of the drama!! For whoever think that men and women should not have sex after their first kiss/physical contact (and must wait months before sleeping together), I wonder if they have a sexual frigidity, are overly illusional about male/female relationship, or are from a very traditional culture where sexual relationships consider to be taboo…

Ha!I totally missed that! I read it as it was supposed to be. I really do wish there was a way to easily edit. I cannot tell you how many times I have had to delete my replies because of grammatical errors.

I see the original has been fixed — despite the tragic lack of an edit button. Seems the overlords have an override. They once fixed me when I messed up a blockquote.

I do in some way agree with you, but at the same time I know people that want to take time to get to know each other, and take it in steps. I don´t see why that is wrong. Some want to know that this is the right person, because being that intimate is something you do with the person you like and are sure about. Of course every romantic relationship is uniq and there is no rule to how fast or slow you want to go, it up to you and your partner and what you guys feel. I don´t feel its right to criticize those people for wanting to take it slow. I am sorry if my post sound rude…

    1
    1

Oh, I 100% agree with you, there is no doubt that people need time to know each other before becoming intimate! In fact the couple in LL had plenty of time to know each other before start dating (according to number of court hearings it should be at least 6 months that they were working/flirting together)…
The thing is that some DB commenters who went as far as calling their sexual relationship “rape” while in drama their relationship was fully consensual and more tender/sweet than lustful… I blame k-dramas for making the male & female relationship more fantasy than realistic for many years: wide-open-eyes kiss, fishy smooching, non-existence sexual relationship, getting nervous from skin-ship rather than appreciating it, etc…

      3
      1

People are saying that about their kiss and night… they where both into it, so that make me speechless on how they understand what was going on in that scene. Totally agree about what you say abut LL couple!

I’m personally happy that our leads are together and we can do use on the main plot instead of romance.

Totaly, romance has never been a focus in this drama, but a poweful tool to make the story more intresting…

I’ve seen quite a few people say that don’t understand why she likes him. I don’t understand that question. It’s a thin line between love and hate. As far as we’ve come in terms of women and their agency in dramas why is it so hard to believe that she is just attracted to him. He’s handsome, chivalrous, respectful, frustrating and a smart ass. That is primal attraction qualities right there. Not to mention she had just found out the truth about her mom and the betrayal from CMS. People look for comfort and sometimes it’s physical. I feel like watching k-dramas with their “pure love” narrative people forget that that’s not how real adult relationships work. Those types of dramas do satisfy our wants of watching an innocent love but it is very unrealistic. I said in a different thread that it would not surprise me if it was a one-time thing. People get caught up in emotions and things happen. If she wanted to pull back a little and get to know him to see if a relationship is even possible that wouldn’t shock me either. From the way Sang Pil is written, I don’t think he would care. He respects her and wouldn’t want to rush her. For me, it’s refreshing to see a couple get together and do things adults do in relationships. Sometimes things move fast and sometimes they move at a snail’s pace. I mean what is more likely to happen? A man and woman having sexual tension breaking sex or declaring their love to each other when they’ve barely held hands? Nowadays it doesn’t take months upon months for adults to have sex.

@persianrose, even very traditional cultures where sexual relationships are considered to be taboo have a seedy underbelly. It’s only considered taboo if you’re a woman or out in the open about it. Things happen but it’s always kept quiet. It’s all just an illusion. Mostly to keep women in their place and make them feel ashamed.

All that to say this: I don’t find it offensive but I don’t understand why other people don’t understand when or why she started to like him or slept with him. Because I can see it clear as day.

    4
    2

@thatstp : As a woman, I really felt offended when I saw some people comments: “protecting her by sleeping with her”…. As if sleeping with a girl/boy you love/like is a shameful and disgusting act

      0

Sorry didn’t realize how much I wrote. LOL.

      1
      1

It’s totally fine to not like a fast-pace romance, and want to see more build-up (I personally dislike it when in a drama the romance seems forced)… it’s also totally OK to not like a show, or have a fundamental problem with them… I just want to say sexual relationship is not a shameful act, and eliminating sexual desires from drama characters (and selling it as PURE INNOCENT LOVE) is very unrealistic!! Man and woman who are attracted together would sleep together as soon as they can 😊

I cannot explain how much I love this OTP because they are both so mature in their love and relationship … they are not afraid to show how much they like each other while they are not behaving like two teenagers-in-love either … I think It’s quite a departure from other K-dramas when for episode after episode, the couple hold back for whatever reason and even turning to a noble idiocy or sacrificial path when things turn a bit tough …

They’re just going to give BSP every reason to lose his confidence in law (and his mother legacy) and confront CMS gangsters in a lawless way… It’s intresting to see if BSP can still keep fighting them by law because after all he’s a lawyer…

Some of you might find AOJ character in Lawless Lawyer a bit cartoonish and over-the-top! But the reality is this character has been written so close to the former president of South Korea, President Lee who led the country from 2008 to 2013! In fact the world is greatly suffering from the dangerous rise of populism: leaders who claim to speak for “the people,” treating human rights as an impediment to their conception of the majority will, and a needless obstacle to defending the nation from perceived threats and evils!!!
Among all the corruptions of the former presidents of SK, it’s really interesting to know that both president Lee and president Park (Judge Cha character has been written so close to her) placed Lee Jun Ki among blacklisted artists and hired people to harshly criticize and bad-mouth the blacklisted artists and boycotted them from many Chungmuro projects… I can certainly see why LJK picked this role! For reference check this video and compare it to AOJ campaign CF on episode 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLmXqXQoMag&feature=youtu.be

“All four former South Korean presidents who are still alive have been convicted, charged or investigated for criminal offences. South Korea’s previous President Park Geun-hye, 66, was charged with bribery, coercion, and abuse of power, among other offences. President Lee, the CEO-turned-mayor-turned-president has been charged with bribery, power abuse, embezzlement, and tax evasion, state prosecutors said in a statement…” That’s why many dramas show politicians as severely corrupted people, because many of them were tremendously corrupted…

i actually find AOJ pitiful and writers add abit of humanity in him. He is so used as a gangster, and now he is on the verge at the top, he is in a cloud nine, he forget who he was and his place. Choi Min Soo is so great potray a vulnerability of his character particularly when he forget his place in front of judge Cha, make me tear up unexpectingly.

    5
    2

Oh yeah, I see what you mean, he’s a gangster and we saw that he cruelly murdered BSP’s mom, but he’s still so pitiful… his character has been written so layered with lots of twists, it’s like he was that poor abused guy who rose to money/power out of absolute poverty, someone who has been used by powerful people (Judge Cha father perhaps) over and over, someone who did every dirty thing to survive… I hope the drama explore his past and also his personal life… I’m sure there is someone in his life that he cares so much for…!

President Lee was also a farm labourer in rural Japan during his childhood, he experienced such a difficult life when he was young… Later he even participated in student demonstrations against President Park Chung-hee and was sentenced to probation and imprisonment, however he still managed to become Korea’s youngest CEO of Hyundai Construction in history, and he made huge money for South Korea!!! Later he left Hyundai after a 27-year career, and decided to enter politics. In fact, he seemed like a really decent guy before coming to power… I wonder what made him a corrupt person, was it because of people who helped him to rise to power?!!

      6
      1

Alot of bad people in real life become bad because the pressure he got from people who trust him and make him at the top. Those people who contributed him to the top want a benefit from their effort too. So they end give him pressure to pay back what they give or he will get dethrone. So we call it a vicious circle?

This Chevy OTP is going too fast for me, emotionally I mean. On the plus side no angsty build-up to romance? I don’t know… HEEEEEELP *clutches seatbelt*

      3
      1

No angsty build-up is necessary for two mature equal people to start dating (couples start dating just like this in real life, but kdrama romance used to be built on lots of angsts)… they already had so much angst in their pasts so let’s them be happy and heal each other now that they can… as this is not a rom-com, I assume they don’t need to break them up to make nobel idiocy angst in the future episodes…

It seems like that in ep7 preview so I’m not gonna worry much. I guess the writer wants to speed up the romance so more dramas could be unfold later in… 12 eps (man this drama is too fast lmao).
But whatever I love seeing them being (beautiful and) happy together so *happy dancing* 😳

Btw I read the writer’s blog and he once replied to a comment, saying that it must be a sin not to write romance when you have a cast of LJK and SYJ.

My fear is the potential for breakup angst. (see Pretty Noona) On the other hand, Ha Jae-yi seems to be a pretty level-headed person despite hitting that judge. (he deserved it)

Oh, I’m sure ….. probably also had to, um, replay certain scenes, right? Heh! 😉

It’s a bit rushed but I don’t think it’s out of nowhere after rewatching ep 5 + 6. Especially in episode 6, after knowing the truth about her own mother and seeing the ugly side of the power right front of her eyes (Oh Joo’s campaign) JY must have felt what SP has been feeling and was overwhelmed (she actually came to him asking if he had been living with that pain for 18 years ;_;).
So I think the scenes were executed pretty well, but mostly thanks to LJK and SYJ’s superb acting cause yes I’d love more buildups too lol
I guess we don’t have much time for our ship playing around with emotions, like they have to REVENGE (!) and come to think of it, that fits their characters lmao
Anyway I prefer them quickly teaming up as a powerful couple than dragging the romance with misunderstandings whatsoever. And it’s not like the end of romance though, we will still have our ship interact/care for/protects each other more along the way (and maybe some cute jealousy which we already saw in JY or more… kiss/bed scenes *squeal*)

    3
    1

@byungmad I rewatched both ep 5 and 6 as well, an I 100% agree with you! Their romantic development was not out of nowhere and it fits their charachter so much… they both had a painful childhood, similar career, goal and idiology… in fact I’ve never seen two charachter of a kdrama so in harmony… they are both upfront, bold and honest… there is no need for them to beat around the bush and deny their natural attraction toward each other… so looking forward to our lawyer couple to make their revenge plan and fight by law against the corrupted people…
