Today I did TTMIK level 7 lesson 11. @delsatu you were right. This lesson was really hard 😭😭😭
This lesson was about “making things happen” by using the suffixes 이/히/리/κΈ°/우/ꡬ/μΆ” (why so many???) and the first four are also used to make a verb into passive voice so you have to determine the meaning based on context *bangs head against wall* Also, some verbs can’t be turned into causative form using these endings so you have to use 게 ν•˜λ‹€ instead.
μ‹œν‚€λ‹€ is the causative form of ν•˜λ‹€.
I’m also reviewing 3.7 on linking verbs using μ•„/μ–΄/μ—¬μ„œ.
    1. μ €λŠ” 사μž₯싀에 κ°€μ„œ μ €μ˜ λ³΄κ³ μ„œλ₯Ό 보일 κ±°μ—μš”.
    2. κ²¨μšΈμ— μ• κΈ°κ°€ λ”°λœ»ν•œ μ˜·μ„ μž…νžˆλŠ” 것이 μ€‘μš”ν•΄μš”.
    3. 학생듀이 λͺ» κ³΅λΆ€μ‹œν‚€λŠ” λ•Œλ¬Έμ— μ„ μƒλ‹˜μ΄ λ˜λŠ” 것이 μ–΄λ €μ›Œμš”.

    1. I will go to the boss’s office and show him my report.
    2. In winter, it is important to make babies wear warm clothes.
    3. Being a teacher is hard because you can’t make students study.

    3
    3

      2. and 3. : (I am not sure about this) Since, with this structure, the teacher can’t make the students study and someone is dressing the baby, then students and baby are object to the verbs and would need an object marker λ₯Ό/ 을, don’t you think?

      1
      1

      1. μ €λŠ” 사μž₯싀에 κ°€μ„œ μ €μ˜ λ³΄κ³ μ„œλ₯Ό λ³΄μ—¬μ€„κ±°μ—μš”.
-So one thing is, TTMIK only has the root verb of the causative verbs so it makes it difficult to figure out how to use it. In this case, the -이’s change a lot. I cant think of ones other than the ones that TTMIK put so I’ll use their examples:

녹이닀 > λ…Ήμ—¬μ‘Œμ–΄μš” (something had melted on its own) > λ…Ήμ˜€μ–΄μš” (I melted something) > 녹인 것 (녹이닀 used as an adjective)

보이닀 >보여주닀 (show something to someone) > λ³΄μ—¬μ„œ (because I saw something)

      높이닀 > λ†’μ˜€λ‹€ (past tense)

Now that I write it out, it for -이, the past tense is to change it to -μ—¬. Hope that helps! I’ll do the other two sentences separately 😊

      Good job 🙂

      1
      1

Thank you! I found this structure easier to remember if I forget the all causative explanation and consider that two meanings come from the basic verb:
        – to die : μ£½λ‹€ ; to kill : 죽이닀
        – to eat: λ¨Ήλ‹€ ; to feed : 먹이닀
        – to know: μ•Œλ‹€ ; to inform : μ•Œλ¦¬λ‹€
        – to live: μ‚΄λ‹€ : to save (someone’s life): 살리닀
        – to take charge of: 맑닀; to entrust : 맑기닀
Fortunatly, it is often the same which come up regularly, so we’ll remember a few of them eventually! πŸ˜€ Fighting!

In this case, the causative is used to do something for someone so the β€œto” translates to μ—κ²Œ
    3. ν•™μƒλ“€μ—κ²Œ 곡뢀λ₯Ό λͺ» μ‹œν‚€κΈ° λ•Œλ¬Έμ— μ„ μƒλ‹˜μ΄ λ˜λŠ” 것은 μ–΄λ €μ›Œμš”.
-λͺ» and μ•ˆ are two negative words that are usually placed before verbs instead of before nouns. So 곡뢀 is not a verb but the noun β€œstudy”. I realized it seems like a verb in Korean but κ³΅λΆ€ν•˜λ‹€ means β€œdoing study” (grammatically incorrect in English) so the negation would be 곡뢀 μ•ˆν•˜λ‹€.
-I think one of my unfinished question answering was on using -κΈ°. Hopefully it comes out in TTMIK soon but google had a good rec too. https://www.google.com/amp/s/funkorean4u.wordpress.com/2014/08/20/grammar-κΈ°-λŠ”-것-음-nominalization/amp/

Overall, I think you did pretty well on the causatives! The explanations are not on correcting your use of the causatives 😊 Good job!

I’m watching Strongest Deliveryman and I finally found THE scene. The scene that made @sicarius go on a lengthy rant about how amazing Melona bars are and the horrors of seeing them go to waste. This legendary rant sparked the Melona craze that took over DB and made @sicarius Queen of Melonia.
Now that I’ve tasted Melonas, I can agree: this scene was painful to watch. I think I need to have a Melona now… 😋

I\’ve been watching Strongest Deliveryman and I\’m wondering, does Danah ever stop bullying KangSoo? It seems like every episode, she kicks him in the shins and/or twists his arm. There\’s also been two times where she pushed him so hard he fell down (one time down the stairs). And another time, she knocked him unconscious ON PURPOSE so he would sleep instead of helping her clean. Half the time, their relationship is really cute but the other half it seems abusive which makes it hard to root for them. I want KangSoo to find someone who won\’t beat him up every time she disagrees with him 😕
On the other hand, I love Jinkyu and Jiyoon (a.k.a. Dimples and Ditz). Possibly more on that later.

I dropped the drama around episode 5 for similar reasons, so would be interested to hear other beanies’ reviews too.

    2

I understand how you feel. As much as I love 1% of Something, it bothered me everytime she kicked him.

I’m amazed whenever I read comments here everyone is always up in arms about a man grabbing a woman’s wrist but crickets when a woman hits, kicks and slaps a man for some perceived slight. ( i.e he asked for a kiss, accidentally touches her inappropriately).

I’m a firm believer in everyone keep their hands to themselves. Even the bosses that hit and kick their subordinates.

    3
    1

It seems like I remember there being complaints about Danah’s excessive violence when it was airing.
I think women being able to defend themselves is awesome but Danah isn’t defending, she’s attacking and that’s not cool. Like you said, everyone should keep their hands to themselves.

      3

I didn’t watch SD because the female lead turned me off the first time they met by crashing into each other. It’s a shame because I really like Go KyungPo.

        1
        1

I warmed up to Danah so much later on,Ep 12 I think, for this reason.and it didn’t help that Dimples and Chaebol Princess were too cute not to ship.

    3
    1

I agree. She’s a bit aggressive. It’s amazing she’s a badass, but every time she used to hurt him, I found it difficult to root for them. Sadly, it stays till the end. ..though it lessens a bit (sorry if it’s a spoiler). What I’m glad about is that kang soo knew when to stand his ground and she did listen to him during those times. That’s why I couldn’t really get invested in their relationship- one moment she’s being aggressive and the next they’re acting all cutesy. As long as kang soo is okay, I guess we should be too.

    2
    1

Dimples was everything in this show. The Danah Kangsoo loveline felt secondary to the uplifting spirit of the show and Kangsoo’s relentlessly optimistic personality, which, next to dimples, was what really did it for me in this show.

Though I believe Danahs violence is excessive and the drama has been misguidedly trying to use it for comedic relief, i also see it as an intentional character flaw. She’s rough and violent because she’s overcompensating in order to survive, as she’s essentially doing a “man’s” profession. I am sure the delivery world is tough on girls. That said, if I remember she does soften up a lot after meeting Kangsoo, and we do learn that Kangsoo, if he wants, can stand up for himself just fine. I do wish she was called out on her inappropriately violent behaviour more often throughout the show.

    1
    1

    yeah secondary couple is better

Go Kyung Pyo and Chae Soo Bin didn’t have much chemistry and if they did, the way her character was written was hard to get any goodwill feeling towards her from me. I really disliked Chae SooBin’s character here but yes she does get better but it’s pretty late in the drama when she stops being abusive lol
