Beanie level: Errand boy

Why does Joonhee call Heejoo his Natasha? Is that a reference to something?

It is! From a poem by Baek Seok called Natasha, the White Donkey, and Me ^^

    1
    1

I looked it up for you, in case you wanna read it…

      Tonight the snow falls endlessly
      because I, a poor man,
      love the beautiful Natasha.

      I love Natasha,
      the snow falls endlessly,
and I sit alone, drinking rice wine.
      Drinking rice wine, I think:

the night the snow falls endlessly
I would like to ride, with Natasha, upon a white donkey
to a remote, mournful mountain village and live in a cottage.

      The snow falls endlessly.
      I love Natasha.
      Natasha must be coming.
She has already come in quietly and tells me:
“You throw away such a thing as the world because it’s muddled,
but going to a remote mountain doesn’t mean you lose it all.”

      The snow falls endlessly,
the beautiful Natasha will love me,
and somewhere the white donkey, too, will cry out,
      delighted with tonight.

Today I did TTMIK level 4 lesson 8 which was on -도 돼요 and 안 -도 돼요 which mean “it is okay if you do…” and “it is okay if you don’t do…”

    1. JB oppa! You seem tired. You don’t have to perform. You can rest today.
    2. You don’t have to teach me. I can read the textbook.
    3. The weather is nice today. I can walk to school.

    1
    2

1- I think that 피곤해 보여요 would be more appropriate in this context.

      1
      1

Would you mind explaining the difference? I’m not familiar with that 🙂

        0
        1

1- You don’t have to come, it is not an important meeting.
2- You may borrow this book, since I’m not reading it at the moment.
3- You can wait here, he is coming soon.

      1

@isthatacorner I finished ep 4. Shin really doesn\’t seem to be taking advantage of Gyu Won having to do anything he says. All he can think of is having her buy him coffee?!? What about having her clean his shoes, bike, and guitar, having her fetch things that he forgot, making her give him a piggy back ride when he\’s tired…So many possibilities

I don’t know what to say about Shin. I honestly think he flat out doesn’t think of those things because he’s such a good guy. Who s masquerading as a dillhole. There have been so many times where it seems like he wanted to dial the slave thing back or call the whole thing off. But then she smiles or he finds hims3lf all twitterpated and he squashes it. Silly boy.

Well, he just made her clean the super messy band room 😅 I guess he was able to control his niceness to take advantage of the situation a little 😅

@isthatacorner Why does the director favor Gyu Won so much? It seemed like she had never met him before when they met at the bus stop. Did he know her father? Am I not supposed to know yet and it will be revealed later? I’m just really confused about why he’s so nice to her.

    1
    1

I think it’s a variety of reasons. I think a part of it has to do with the love line in some convoluted way. She likes Lee Shin. Lee Shin likes the Professor. The Director likes the Professor. I’m. It sure how but I think that has somethi g to do with it.

More directly I think it’s just his style. Its the same deal with the kid he wants to be the lead.He sees something there that they may not see in themselves and he wants to nourish it even if it means playing favorites.

      1
      1

He’s a singer/actor, a member of the group CNBlue, the same group as Jung Yong Hwa, the main male lead of “Heartstrings”

Everyone in cnblue is amazing! I think all four of them were in dramas last year and the other three guys can sing they just ….dont…very often.

        2
        4

So there are 5 members and just Minhyuk and Yonghwa sing? What songs do you recommend I start with when I check them out?

          0
          1

Oh, no. Yong Hwa is the only singer. They all can sing. They just don’t do it. Occasionally they’ll sing a song live during a concert or something (or so the youtube tells me) There are four of them.
            Jung Yong Hwa (lead vocalist/guitarist)
            Kang Min hyuk (drummer)

Shows what I know. I am such a bad fan. Lee Jong Hyun is supposedly a lead vocalist as well but I have NEVER noticed this.

And then there’s Lee Jung Shin who plays the Bass. I give up trying to be a fan. I suck at it. Honestly. HONESTLY I tell you Ra On Ah, I have like 100 Cnblue songs in my kpop playlist and I noticed the other guys harmonizing with Jung Yong Hwa but I certainly never noticed anyone taking the lead in a song unless it was like…Min Kyu singing Star in a concert. But the internet is saying that Lee Jong Hyun is a lead and I am done. I am giving up this fangirl life.

I’m in the middle of ep 6. I’m such a slow binge watcher 😆 I got distracted by 2pm’s concert at the Olympics and then by the Olympic ice dancing. I’ll continue ep 6 now 🙂

2pm? All of 2pm? I thought Taeceyon was in the army? Was—I don’t know–let go? Given leave? To perform? i like him loads. Notice the way my not-fangirl heart can’t spell his name. Its the casual life for me. I may even forget GOT7s names to keep things fair.

Also listen to some of Jung Yong Hwa’s solo stuff too! Mileage is my favorite of his solo stuff and I am fairly sure I’ve liked every Cnblue song that I’ve heard. They are *awesome*. I did not expect the battle of the bands to happen this quickly. Did she really expect to be able to win though? Most young people will prefer modern music to traditional music and his band already has lots of fans. Even if her string hadn’t broken, they still would’ve lost.
Also, who stops playing just because a string breaks?!? Just play as best as you can without that string.

5
2

In the beginning I don’t think she really thought she was going to win. I thought that what she and Lee Shin were planning on doing was something much, much smaller than what happened and was supposed to be about the music and not the popularity (since they had both snarked at each other: I don’t feel anything when you play!) but it got blown up.

If they were going to go by what they were planning originally I think Gyu Won would have won—Lee Shin was definitely feeling feels during her performance.

    3
    1

That makes sense. It did end up being a bigger thing than they planned.

I’ve decided to ban myself from using the verbs I use these too much and need to expand my vocabulary.
Today I did TTMIK level 4 lesson 7 which was on 괜찮아요. This has four uses: to say you’re ok when you might have gotten hurt/to ask if someone else is ok, to tell someone that everything will be ok, to say that something is really good, to politely refuse something.

    1. *JB oppa stumbles*
Me: JB oppa! Are you okay? Don’t be hurt!
    JB: Yes! I’m okay!
    2. Me: Did you make a new dish?
    You: Yes, how is it?
    Me: It’s really good!
You: Do you want to eat more? ( Yes, I realize I already broke my ban on not using 먹다)
Me: No, I’m fine. I’m not hungry right now.
    3. Don’t worry. It’s ok. GOT7 is coming to your town.

    1
    2

1- 아프지마세요 would be in two parts I believe : 아프지 마세요
2- Good news ! You may use the formal form of the verb “to eat” to expand your vocabulary: 드실래요?
In your second and third examples you go from banmal to jondaemal (dropping the ending 요), but I don’t know if it’s intentional on your part.
3- 걱정하지마 in two parts also : 걱정하지 마
I applaud your commitment to learn new verbs and I should certainly do the same! 🙂

      1

Thanks for the corrections! I always mess up on spacing 😭
        2. Yay! Thanks for the new verb!
Oops! Switching between banmal and jondaemal was definitely not intentional! Thanks for pointing that out 🙂

1- this weekend I could not really practice Korean, is it alright?
2- Forest of secrets is really great, you should really give it a try!
3- There was a traffic accident. Thankfully, nobody was hurt therefore it was okay (a bit redundant, I know…)

      1
      1

        1. I think it should be past tense
        2. What does 꼭 mean?
        3. 다행이
        Good job!

        1
        1

Thank you for your corrections! Although I’m still puzzled by the vb+는데: I feel like we see it more in the 하는데 than in the past or future form… Maybe @acacia will help us shed some light on the matter?
꼭 can be translated as “absolutly”, it means to insist on something (“you have to see that”); sometimes in dramas the characters repeat it and it is translated as “promise? Promise!”

          1
          1

Thanks for the explanation of 꼭! I’m sure acacia will be able to help us with the 는데 part 🙂

      1

YAYAYAYAY! Ok. This drama made me a Park Shin Hye fan, a Jong Young Hwa fan and a Min Hyuk fan. I haven’t seen it in about a year. I’m watching Playful Kiss….(eh…well. Who’s even shocked at this point?) and Social Avengers Club right now So I’ll start in the morning. GAAAAAAH EXCITED!!

I finished Moon Embracing the Sun. So many people died in the first half of the last ep, including one of my favorite characters 😭😭😭 The last half was very sweet though and wrapped up the surviving characters\’ arcs nicely.
Also, I kept worrying that I would mashup this title and Moonlight Drawn by Clouds and accidentally call it Moon Embracing the Clouds 😂

9
7

Moon embracing the Sun! I haven’t seen it yet but it’s always been on my list! If you wouldn’t mind me asking, out of 10, how many stars would you give it?

    2
    1

I would give it 7 out of 10. The childhood part (first six episodes) was great. It was cute and funny and then horribly tragic in a way that was logical. I hate when stories have tragedies that could be easily avoided (like this one did in ep 20). I was actually tearing up towards the end of the childhood part and I never cry during dramas but Yeo Jingoo and Kim Yoo Jung did a fantastic job with their characters and the story was very well done.
The middle part dragged a LOT. Everyone kind of thinks this one person is someone they knew before but no one can confirm it and that lasts for about eight (?) episodes.
Finally the identity thing is cleared up and the story starts moving again.
It had some sweet moments between the main couple but, this was the era of the “kiss-and-freeze”, so don’t expect much there.
There was a very stupid noble idiot sacrifice at the end that I hated especially because it was completely unnecessary and could have been avoided so easily.
It wasn’t as beautifully shot as more recent dramas like Moonlight Drawn by Clouds or Queen for Seven Days.
For the most part, I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

      2
      1

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I think I’ll keep this on the back burner for now. I don’t think I am ready for anything that is horribly tragic at the moment, LOL. Appreciate your intake ❤ Thanks!

        1
        1

You don’t want to know how many times I’ve tried you watch this—at least half a dozen. Too much death, too overly dramatic, I’ve not even gotten to Yeo Jin goo’s scenes! Lol!

    1
    1

The first half hour was really hard to watch. If I were to watch it again, I would skip all that and get straight to the cute puppy love part.

Today I did TTMIK level 4 lesson 6 which was a word builder lesson using -동.

    1. I don’t know if JB oppa likes animals but I know he likes cats.
    2. I hate exercising but I like learning new dance moves.
    3. I learned a lot of verbs.

    3
    1

-You know he likes cats so you cant bunch up that you dont know he doesnt like all animals. Rather you dont know if likes other animals, so 다른 is added for clarification.
-모른데 is to describe “he/she doesnt know”. 모르는데 is to describe “i dont know”. I know you probably put the first because it seems like a shortened form of 모르는데 but they actually have different meanings.
-rememeber that -요 ends the sentence. So instead of having 2 endings for the sentence I changed your verb to a noun.

Movement=동작 so I added 댄스 to emphasize that the moves were dance moves. Also the switch in syntax is the thinking backwards part.
      3. 많은
