I finished watching 30 but 17. I really enjoyed the family dynamic, I teared up a few times. I wasn\’t too in love with the main couple and I was frustrated with how long they dragged the revelation of Su-mi actually being Seo-ri. God, when will Wang Ji-won get an actual good character? I\’m so tired of seeing her play these kinds of roles. Casting directors please give her a chance, she can act!

I finished watching My ID is Gangnam Beauty recently and I enjoyed its message mostly, until they started pushing the weight loss drink and called afros ugly. I\’m thinking of watching Thirty but seventeen. I\’m wondering if this is the role that would endear me to Yang Se-jong. It feels kind of unfair that I haven\’t given him much of a chance yet. So, yay or nay? What did you guys like about it?

Thirty But Seventeen is a slow and low-key drama that will totally get under your skin. Yang Se-jong’s character development is gradual, but realistic, and I think this is my favorite role of his. (disclaimer: I have not seen Duel) Give it a chance.

The characters were endearing and the story was heartwarming. Each episode out a smile on my face. I definitely recommend 30 but 17 🙂

In which part of Gangnam Beauty showing afros ugly? Because I couldn’t remembered that well.

As for 30but17, you should really watched it! The characters in there are just an ordinary human with flaws and there are not villains, and their growing journey as characters were amazing

In the scene when Kyung-seok went to the salon to get his hair done as a model, the stylist said that his face was so handsome that he could make any ugly hair look good even an afro. Then the stylist laughs and says “why would I give you an afro? I’m not crazy”.

I think you’ll like Thirty but Seventeen. It gets better as it goes along, and has some really endearing characters, including Yang Se-jong’s.

This is how obsessed I’ve been with this song lately. It took me a few tries to record it because I kept getting emotional.

I binged Mr. Sunshine up till episode 8, I don\’t think I can go further. There\’s not enough Ae-shin or Kina moments to keep me interested. Guess this is another Kim Eun-sook drama I\’m filing under least favourites.

I agree with Tim, and it seems like Hina is getting her own storyline FINALLY. It’s also my opinion that Mr. Sunshine makes for a bad binge-worthy drama, since the episodes are very drawn-out and often not a lot happens to propel the plot forward, hence why I’m live-watching it so it seems less like a chore and I’m able to marvel on the weekends at how beautiful everything is. Just my two cents!

Thank you for that information, I’ll let it air a few more episodes and pick it up back. I honestly would rather Kim Eun-sook kept the romance angle to a minimum and gave us more of the fight for independence plot.

So, I’m watching Produce 48 and I really have to thank the team for putting this song on the list because I checked it out and it’s now one of my favourite songs of the year.

The Produce 48 performance of this song was pretty nice as well. ^^ (I’m watching performances not the whole season)

I’m enjoying the show as a whole and I really like a lot of the girls. If you watched the lead up moments to this performance I think you’d probably appreciate it more. This is such a beautiful song. Kudos to Steve Aoki and BTS’ vocal line for a job well done.

I’m incredibly biased to Kwon Eun-bi right now because I like her dancing, her leadership quality, and because she reminds me a lot of Irene who is my Red Velvet bias. I also really like Han Cho-won, Yamada Noe, and Goto Moe. I wish Jurina could have stayed longer cause I really liked her too. And the two girls that were the main vocalist for Merry Chri team and Truth Untold team.

Same! It’s ridiculous. You just never know with people. He could have been the next Park Bo-gum or something.

I love this song so much. Doesn’t it remind you of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida?

Now that you point it out, yes it reminds me a little of Viva La Vida! But on my initial listen I was just shocked at how much I preferred it to the Alesso version featuring Matthew Koma.

I woke up to the new this morning. I was so shocked and his dad seemed to have been ill for a while. He’s such a private person that he didn’t let it slip even once.

I felt terrible hearing the news. Specially when I consider that he might have been so busy with all the work he’s been doing recently he might not even have had much time with his dad before his passing. I hope the media can at least let him mourn in private

I\’m going to rant a little and if there are any Kai-biased EXO-Ls on here reading this, I\’m NOT a Jongin anti.

Concerning Miracle That We Met, I see zero reason for Kai being cast in this show. It couldn\’t be that the producers were trying to generate publicity since they had Kim Hyun-joo, Kim Myung-min, Ra Mi-ran, AND that girl from The Wailing already cast. I thought perhaps Kai jumped at the opportunity to learn from the veterans which is something very in character for him, but he\’s barely even in this show. It\’s been 8 episodes and he\’s appeared liked 3 times and spoke like 5 sentences each time. They could have cast literally any other person in this role and it wouldn\’t have made a difference.

7
13

Sounds like a cameo appearance/casting to me?

A Beanie (was it you?) put up funny posts re Kai’s role in the show and I considered watching it. But when I checked out the description I realised – i. it’s good but doesn’t really interest me too much atm and ii. Kai probably doesn’t have a big role. I’d only be watching to catch Kai in another role anyway – so I didn’t watch, ultimately.

    2
    1

It wasn’t me who posted about it. Kai is barely in this show. I love him to death but thankfully I didn’t start watching the show for him so I didn’t care too much that he wasn’t in it. I was just confused as to why they cast EXO’s Kai for an almost non-existent role when they could have cast basically anyone else and Kai would have been free to do other things.

      2
      2

I suppose this is what they mean when they say idols are cast just to increase ratings. Hopefully Kai has gotten paid well for his ‘cameo’ and that it hasn’t taken up too much of his time. ^^ [It could also be the other way round behind the scenes you know – that his busy schedule means they’ve had to cut down an already non-main role]

        1
        1

I don’t think this drama needs any idol to increase the rating – three main leads are enough for rating. Besides, Kim Myung-min & Kim Hyun-joo have a long steady career from when they were a lot younger and are very well-known actors in their own country. Maybe casting Kai to create some buzz internationally especially among young generations. His casting was pretty last minute as far as I recall, so my guess someone higher ups insisted for the production to cast him.

          4
          2

“Maybe casting Kai to create some buzz internationally especially among young generations.” This is what I meant. Among the younger crowd, Korean and/or international.

            2
            0

If they cast Kai to get his fan’s to watch it, it would similar to shooting yourself in the foot because they will watch 2 episodes, notice he’s not appearing enough, and stop.

            2
            0

Honestly they are pushing the guys hard this year (and end of last year) to participate in maximum number of things. Maybe its because they will soon be going to the army? Whatever it is I blame SM entertainment entirely. Overexposure isn’t always a good thing. They must be worked to the bone by now.

        1
        2

SM Entertainment has clearly failed its artists. Unfortunately I feel much unhappiness when reminded of the company, even though I like the artists. I hope they’ve reviewed some of their policies and workload assignement etc, but its not looking like they have.

          1
          0

I heard that Junmyeon is enlisting next year and Minseok is going after he finishes his PhD. I cannot wait for them to be able to renegotiate their contract or pull a Highlight and just move to another company altogether, SM doesn’t deserve EXO.

          1
          0

To be honest, I’m not a kai or exo fan or an anti, I’m somewhat indifferent but I did and do wonder why he’s in the show. He has zero screen presence and for such a famous idol, I’m shocked that’s all they’re giving him. As you said, it could be an experience thing or a long cameo like Jo In Sung in Dear my friends.

    3
    0

Actually, if anything this made me respect him a bit. No offense but boy can’t act and after three main roles it was time for him to release that and start from the bottom

His acting leaves a lot to be desired but he’s not absolutely horrendous, and I’m being as objective as possible here. He has improved from being cringe-inducingly bad in Choco Bank to being very serviceable in his last Japanese drama Spring Is Here. He’s barely here so I can’t say anything about his acting in this show.

I\’ve watched 8 episodes of Miracle That We Met, and I just realized that other than Song Hyun-chul, Ji-soo, and Kang-ho, I don\’t know any of the other characters names.

Just finished the first episode of Pretty Noona, sadly I don\’t think it\’s for me. It reminds me too much of every other noona romance and I\’m not too fond of those.

I haven\’t started Pretty Noona yet, but I found out the director did Grapevine and that affair drama Yoo Ah-in was I. I didn\’t see Grapevine but I was utterly bored by the affair drama. I kinda don\’t want to watch Pretty Noona anymore after this discovery.

2
4

Yes I was pretty bored out of my mind with Love Affair as well. And I was pretty cautious going into Pretty Noona. But its actually pretty different from Love Affair in terms of the overall tone of the drama. The first episode does focus a lot on establishing the main lead Ji-ah’s life at work (which I fast forwarded through) but once the leads meet halfway through ep 1, the focus shifts to their relationship and takes off from there. There is still some boring office drama in the background, but I mostly tend to skip that. Other than that, there is still enough in this drama to actually watch and dissect. The relationships between the two families (and even the women in the workplace) is very interesting. I would say give it a try. I love this drama so far and its actually one of the only dramas I’m currently watching (other than Poem and Oh-jak doo).

One of the Beanies mentioned that Pretty Noona was his most accessible work and I completely agree. I personally thought Secret Love Affair was a work of art but I can understand if people found it slow. You won’t have that problem with Pretty Noona.

    1
    1

I largely think Secret Love Affair went over my head because I couldn’t understand any of the characters or their motivations. In any case, I’ll give Pretty Noona a try now since it’s supposed to be different in tone than Secret Love Affair.

I’m only on episode 2 but it sort of reminds me of Go Back Couple in that it’s gotta a wacky premise but is kind of heartwarming underneath it all
