Beanie level: Errand boy

Of course, only Wei Wuxian would confess his feelings in this way in this situation 🤣 I love him.

(SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL BELOW)

Before Wei WuXian could finish, the sharp pain of flesh being lacerated came from his throat. Something dripped down his neck. Lan WangJi’s face was pale. Jin GuangYao, “How could he not listen to me? Just think about it, Young Master Wei, his life is in my hands.”

Lan WangJi spoke a word at a time, “Do not touch him.”

Jin GuangYao, “Then you know what to do, HanGuang-Jun.”

A moment later, Lan WangJi responded, “Yes.”

Lan XiChen sighed. Lan WangJi raised his hands. With two strong taps, he locked his own spiritual powers.

Jin GuangYao smiled, his voice soft, “This really is…”

Lan WangJi’s eyes were locked on them, “Let him go.”

Wei WuXian, however, stopped him, “Lan Zhan! I-I have to tell you something.”

Jin GuangYao, “Let’s save it for later.”

Wei WuXian, “No. It’s really urgent.”

Jin GuangYao, “Then you can also say it right now.”

It was only an offhand comment, but Wei WuXian seemed as if he realized something, “You’re right.” Right after, Wei WuXian shouted with all he could, “Lan Zhan! Lan WangJi! HanGuang-Jun! Back then, I-I really wanted to sleep with you!”

“…”

“…”

Jin GuangYao’s hands loosened, and the string fell. As soon as he felt the stinging at his neck disappear, Wei WuXian threw himself at Lan WangJi, unable to wait a second longer.

I love the line, “How could he not listen to me? Just think about it, Young Master Wei, his life is in my hands.”

JGY is literally saying that Wei Ying IS Lan Zhan’s life (which is true). 😍

How did you know I just read that part last night?? But I liked what WY says next…

Agreed! His full rambling confession and then LZ repeating his confession back to him in-between kisses after the candles were blown out 😍 I may have reread it a couple times lol

HAHAHAAHAHAHA, say whaaaat? Wangji must have been scintillating between extreme duress and extreme happiness and extreme embarrassment all at once! πŸ˜€

      7
      1

He definitely didn’t know how to react immediately 🤣 Poor man. Here is what happens directly after:

The shocking confession just now struck Lan WangJi with such force that he still hadn’t finished processing it. A few rare streaks of loss and confusion appeared on his normally calm face. It wasn’t the first time Wei WuXian hugged him as if he was clinging on for dear life, but this time, it was as though Lan WangJi’s body had turned into a heavy log. He froze so much that he didn’t even know where to put his hands.

Wei WuXian, “Lan Zhan, did you hear what I said?!”

Lan WangJi’s lips moved. A moment later, he spoke, “You…” He’d always been concise and comprehensive with his words, never pausing at all. But right now, he paused with more hesitance than ever. Another moment later, he continued, “You said…”

That was the first part of the novel that I read! It made me so happy. I love love confessions. This one especially, with the blatantly bad timing and swoonyness made me giggle all the way through.

My other favourite part is when Lan Zhan promises “Everyday” and then just throws him into the bushes and has his way with him. *RAWR*

Ha, how did you know exactly where to find that the first time?? “The first part of the novel I read…”

        1
        1

It’s in the chapter title! I just made a guess, they didn’t actually say, ‘And then Lan Zhan jumped Wei Ying in the wilderness’. I just started at the chapter named ‘Wangxian’ and read ahead. Which, because of what followed, lucky me, I guess. 🤣

          0
          1

No, I think the confession was before the Wangxian chapters, so I think I backtracked to figure out what happened earlier. It’s in the Concealment chapters, I think.

I was laughing, squealing and shaking my head at WWX. I loved all this part. They are in this bad situation but it’s like nothing else exists for the both of them 😍 Too busy confessing, kissing, and snuggling.

the equivalent moment in the drama for me might be that scene at Koi Tower where LZ and WY were surrounded by JGY and his peeps with swords, and LZ went all “nah i knew it was wy all along”. *cues music* *stares into each other’s eyes*

        4

SAME. I was reading a Jiang Cheng & Wei Ying post-canon fanfic yesterday and I cried like a baby. I mean, K dramas have NOTHING on this tragic bromance.

      4
      1

Here is my problem with JC. He could be the leader/man that he wants to be but spent so much time being a petty child (irony?) at the skill and personality that WWX had/has. Even in reincarnation WWX was still freaking awesome. In the teen years, I get it, but my dude, you are a clan leader, grow up and not being the punk that can be manipulated that so many people think that you are.

        1
        1

I get what you’re saying, but the guy lost his entire family and the one person who he thought would be on his side basically ditched him for other people without any kind of explanation and then became the focus of a war that lost him his sister. Then he came back to life and got a new family, without (in JC’s POV) really deserving it.
Yeah, he has an immense inferiority complex, unintentionally spurred on by his kinda sucky parents, which made him extremely petty and preferred to let it fester where he should have moved on and focused more positively on his clan and Jin Ling, but because of where he came from, I can understand why it happened. He was bitter and he didn’t get a chance to cauterize that wound because the person he could have done it with wasn’t there.
In his defense, he does seem to grow up a bit at the end.

          2
          2

Great and fair assessment. I guess the whining and constant falling in line really did overlook how he did not look into himself for growth. This weakness other leaders saw and were able to capitalize on it and I was just hoping for some awareness sooner rather than later.

And you know what I think about more, did their father dote on WWX more because he knew that it was going to be a uphill battle with their mother. So many things I am always thinking about.

            1
            0

I am basing my opinion on the senior Jiangs entirely on what I’ve seen in the show because I haven’t read as much of the beginning of the novel. The possibility you mention did occur to me, but I don’t think the show fleshed them out that much, so it just seemed like Madame Yu was constantly ripping into Jiang Cheng for not being as good as Wei Ying, his father was trying fend her off of Wei Ying, but being very aloof at the same time and that wasn’t really fair to Jiang Cheng. Even if you work as hard as you can, there isn’t much you can do against innate talent unless you find a way to work around it. I don’t think Jiang Cheng gave himself the space to grow that far. If he had, things might have been very different.

I’ve been avoiding the book although I read some parts for research purposes.

Oh my………. I really can’t imagine WYB acting this scene out…. its soooo……..bold…. soo…. different from the LZ we know……… wow…..!

        1
        1

LZ is pretty similar in the book vs the drama. But he does have more moments in the book where his cold and stoic exterior shatters. Usually in response to his feelings towards WWX. I think he struggles with just how intense his feelings are for WWX to the point where it comes out like these outbursts. He tries to contain and ignore his feelings but he isn’t always successful which is why they burst out at times.

Like that scene with the blindfold kiss and then how he is off punching trees afterwards and yells at WWX to go. In the Turtle of Slaughter cave he was in distress due to his sect just being burnt down, his father on the verge of death and his brother missing, and so when WWX said MianMian will never forget him due to the brand LZ snaps by yelling and pushing him, then biting him and then proceeds to cry to WWX’s horror. Him and WWX used to argue a lot during the Sunshot campaign which is why everyone thought him and WWX had a bad relationship (it was only because he was so worried about what would happen to him if he kept going down that path).

But I tried to imagine WYB in that scene and just couldn’t do it lol

          1
          1

Does this mean that The LZ in the drama is just a mask that hides the real LZ?

I think I am officially the worst fan ever. It took me until now to realize the Xiao Zhan and Lan Zhan have the same first names…. 😳

They use different Chinese characters, but still… It took me over 2 months to come to this realization. 🙄

The only -and minor- thing that distracted me was the hairstyle of her wig …

    2
    3

There needs to be in season 2 of Arsenal, so she can sport her short hair again and I get my full satisfaction of Yanzhen and Xiang Xiang romance……….

I’m on ep 20 now and they don’t even have a scene together since ep 17 😭😭

      2
      1

You’ll be disappointed. The drama isn’t really about the romance (I hear they never even kiss in the drama). I’m on ep. 38 and except for confessions and excessive flirting there hasn’t been much progress in their relationship. I still really like it though as I’m not really watching it for the romance.

        1
        1

Oh I know!! 😭I tried to be prepared for the less romance in the drama as that was MDL’s warning L, but I miss seeing them together. 😭 I got emotional though with the patriotic students 💔💔 And I wondered what’s up with Oda? I thought she was using Shen Jun Shan, but turns out she’s got feelings for him? Huh.

          1
          2

I agree. Some people like it but I personally am not a fan. I also think she looks much better without bangs.

I am watching this show too, it is a fun show to watch. But I do skip through Chu Nan’s scenes, I don’t know why Shen Qing likes him.

    1
    1

I know! Chu Nan is the worst. The fact he was simply dating Xing Yun so he could marry and divorce her was one of the ickiest things ever. And the fact she easily forgave him when I wanted her to pound his face in made me mad.

My mom forced me into watching the first 2 eps. of Vagabond and the only thing I have to say right now is, why does the camera shake so much in the action scenes!? Stop it, it\’s annoying! 😣

5
9

If that is the only thing that’s bothering you, I say you are doing fine. 😁

    7
    1

I mean so far it’s an ok drama as far as action dramas go. At only 2 episodes in I find the conspiracy interesting right now (we’ll see if it remains so though). Just need to ignore reasoning and the fact that the ML should definitely be dead after the first episode.

But the shaking cam annoys me so much because I’m not watching this for really anything else but as a mindless entertaining action drama and the shaking cam is taking away from the fun and craziness of the action scenes 😣

      0
      1

I see. I stopped watching after ep 5 and was only forced to keep up by other beanie who shall not be named. According to that beanie though, the shaking continue even to the most recent episode. So… take motion sickness pill before watching?! I remember getting very nauseous after Bourne movie and I sat at the second row from the top in a very big theater!!

        0
        1

Ya we’ll see if I keep liking it after episode 2. My Mom loves Lee Seung-Gi which is why I was dragged into watching it.

Thankfully I don’t get motion sickness but that would be a huge issue for people who do.

          0
          0

I think the director is a fan of Bourne movie.
Trying to use the same style. The shooting location is also the same as Bourne.

    3
    1

Blame Bourne for that. Made shaky cam popular and yet it was still the only thing to use shaky cam PROPERLY.
Gosh darn action movie trends honestly.

The camera shake is annoying and it still happens in recent eps. Huuuu

Drunk Lan WangJi is even better in the novel then the drama. I stayed up WAY too late reading last night because of this book. Who can deny wrists tied with a forehead ribbon and hide-and-seek? I regret nothing!

He approached Lan WangJi, harboring no good intentions at all. Lan WangJi passed the wooden screen only to run into the table that he himself blocked the doors with. Wei WuXian walked past the screen, chasing after him, while he went the other way around. The two circled the screen for quite a number of times, and Wei WuXian was just starting to feel the fun of it as he suddenly realized, What am I doing? Playing hide-and-seek? What is this? Am I out of my mind? Lan Zhan is drunk, but why am I also playing with him?

Noticing that the person chasing him had stopped, Lan WangJi stopped as well.

Hiding behind the screen, he showed only half of his fair-skinned face, peeking silently at the direction of Wei WuXian.

Wei WuXian watched him carefully. He still looked so prim and proper, as though the six-year-old who chased Wei WuXian around the screen was somebody else.

Wei WuXian, \”Do you want to continue?\”

Expressionless, Lan WangJi nodded.

Thanks for this! I wish they did more drunk LWJ scenes in the drama, he was absolutely hilarious!

Totally out of character but still expressionless, hahaha!

Drunken LZ trying to straighten his ribbon was my first favorite moment of the drama, and the scene that absolutely sealed the deal for me. Fell totally in love with the drama at that point. He was so adorable, that was also the scene that sold WYB as LZ for me.
You are way ahead of me in the novel. I’m stuck on Grasses.

    7

I was kind of sad they clubbed the two different drunk scenes into one, but then they gave us a different drunk scene in the past as their teenage selfs.

Ah, if only they had done one more drunk scene. Just once more. 😂

    5
    0

Am I watching these episodes as you are reading them? I just saw this scene last night. WWX is a cad, but a very disarming one in this scene. I can decide if he’s just being juvenile or if he really is attracted romantically to LZ right now. I think reading the book would help me with that.

    4
    3

      *Can’t decide

      0
      0

He is very obtuse both in the drama and novel. LZ loved him pretty early on in both the drama and novel. But WWX has no clue of either LZ’s feelings or his own for a long time. And even then it takes him awhile to figure out anything. In the novel he actually thought LZ hated him in his past life, and described their relationship as just ok. So in the drama if you are still in the early episodes, he is being juvenile. They are supposed to be around 15 years old during the time they are learning at the Lan sect.

      7
      2

Ah, got it. He’s like a puppy that wants to be liked and get attention right now.

You only tease the one you love, whether you realize it or not. (I believe that’s implied somewhere in the novel – someone with a better memory than mine can tell you!).

      3
      2

And boy does he love teasing LZ! Just takes him forever to figure out WHY he likes teasing him.

        5
        1

I know! He’s certainly trying hard enough to get some kind of emotional response from LZ, besides “boring”.

It’s Gilbert Blithe (WWX) and Anne Shirley (LZ). I gotcha!

          I don’t know who these people are…

Oops, I should have known who those people were! (It’s been a few years since I either read or watched the movie).

          1
          0

The hide-and-seek is just too cute. I wish we could see that in the drama version. But yeah, I don’t regret having Wangji admitted to his biggest regret during their Q&A session instead. That was beautifully done and very bittersweet.

    7
    1

Yes! That is my favorite moment of the whole drunk LZ sequence. Makes me want to scream at obtuse WY to just hug him already.

      5
      1

        lol @ Q&A session!

One of my absolute favorite lines from the drunk scenes is when LZ declares that WY is “wo duh” (mine) and of course WY misunderstands that he meant Bichen that he is carrying on his back. 😆

        2
        0

The hide and seek and then running back to be caught ….too cute.

    5

Hey! You left out the good stuff at the end! 😂

I love drunk LZ. It’s even better in the book!

    6
    1

The whole like 2 chapters are full of good stuff 🤣 Like the hand trying part with his forehead ribbon, then how he proudly displays the poor tied up WWX to the horribly shocked juniors. Or the licking and purposefully getting caught to the kiss. Pure gold 😍

      6
      1

I so want to watch the juniors shocked speechless by Wangji displaying Wuxian all tied up with his forehead ribbon. That was gold. And I love all their whispering speculations afterward about whether Wuxian understand the importance of that ribbon or not.

For some reason, since the very beginning.. i just get a very strong feeling that the lady actress likes XZ.. and maybe vice versa.. i dunno

lol.. and more than yibo.. XZ is full on girly when with this lady.. always doing feminine dance and learning from her..

scratch that.. i think XZ likes her and she knows it

      2
      2

She had more scenes with XZ for sure and between Wang Zhuo Cheng who’s like a kid off screen, I am not surprised she gravitated towards XZ. She probably sees YB as a kid too although she mentioned his gaze was quite intimidating.

        5
        1

WYB didn’t have enough scenes with anyone, including LXC.. so he literally had XZ to interact with.. and hence his comfort level

XZ on the other hand is pivot.. and ofcourse he is good at adapting to the other person’s personality..
he takes care of this lady, being the only female in the cast and ofcourse XZ has both depth and juvenile angle to him

With YB it is so obvious how he is the one closing the gap by being more playful.. and you see his actions with Yibo are all “action” oriented interactions which is precisely what illicit responds from yibo and makes him comfortable with XZ.. and XZ mentioned that in the interview, he did make a conscious effort to be “younger than his age” when trying to interact with yibo

With YB and NHS, XZ’s interactions are on the mature side.. you won’t see random goofing around

.. so yeah.. he is brilliant at interpersonal skills

Xiao Zhan and Xuan Lu are both born in the same year. So she probably felt more comfortable with someone her own age.

I haven’t seen enough BTS with both of them to say anything but from the few I’ve seen I only saw friendship between them. I know they are still friends even now (she celebrated Xiao Zhan’s bday with him along with Jiang Cheng’s actor).

nah!.. plus in her bts i just find her over the top.. too unnecessarily enthusuastic like doing that whole “mom will miss you” to Jin Ling .. and its like she goes around tagging JC because, well to avoid rumours..

you don’t see the same “clinginess” in case of WQ ..

Either XZ went out of the way to befriend everyone.. or these guys are actually the most comfortable with each other on the set .. (XZ in all sets ever combined)

Meh, I wont draw any conclusions unless they actually come out and say something. Poor guy is already embroiled in way too many rumors and false scandals to add more. I personally act like that with some of my guy and girl friends but I don’t usually have any interest in them. It’s just how I act when I’m comfortable around the people I’m with. And they may like each other like you said but I think I’m just not interested enough in it to bother speculating if it’s true or not.

lol… what other false scandal going on?

On lives, there is no one on the planet or human who stays away from gossip alley.. intensity of involvement may vary.. but it is one of those things that every human invariably gets involved in.. because its fun, i guess (celeb or people around you – same thing)

I finished rewatching The Untamed earlier this week. There are lots of heartbreaking scenes in it but it surprised me which one hit me the most on my 2nd rewatch:

Jiang Cheng is struggling so hard with the enormity of the sacrifice Wei Wuxian gave to him. His guilt, shame, gratitude and love toward Wei Wuxian comes lashing out in the form of anger. But WWX knows his brother deeply and knows under the hurt and anger is a deep lake of love. The brothers had both wounded each other deeply, either intentionally or not, but in the end they both sacrificed for each other. WWX in giving up his golden core to JC and JC giving up what he thought would be his life for WWX. And I think both would make the same decision again. The world pulled them apart but love, forgiveness and their brotherly bond brought them back together again.

I love this exchange in The Untamed novel (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation). You\’re playing with fire Wei Wuxian 😏

As expected, Jiang Cheng\’s face darkened, \”Oh, really? Then may I ask which type you\’re interested in?\”

Wei Wuxian replied, \”Which type? Well I am much attracted to people like HanGuang-Jun.\”

Lan Wangji could not tolerate this sort of frivolous and foolish joke at all. If he felt disgusted he would definitely draw a line between them and keep his distance. Disgusting two people at once–this was killing two birds with one stone!

However, as Lan Wangji heard this, he turned around. His face was emotionless, \”Mark your words.\”

Probably an unpopular opinion but I now see why I originally dropped Love O2O last year. The romance on paper is cute and sweet but the main couple are the most boring people ever, with no chemistry between the actors. Not only do you get a Mary Sue but also a Gary Stu. He is perfect and boring and she is perfect and bland. Two perfect, beautiful people getting together because it seemed the thing for them to do.

Only 4 episodes left so I\’ll finish it up atleast.

I thought I was the only one. Thank God!

She really had some spunk and personality until she met him.
It was nice that there was no misunderstandings etc, but she definitely looked bland.
He was good looking (For me), so atleast it was eye candy.

Ya, her personality basically turned into doing what he said with bits of shyness and awkwardness thrown in.

Sadly I don’t find Yang Yang (main actor) attractive so I don’t even have that to enjoy 😢

Yang Yangs attractiveness was what kept me through the drama. I mean have you seen them kiss. That man had to do all the job while she just stood there like deer in headlights. I mean a soft toy might elicit better reaction than her 🤦🏻‍♀️

UGH! He is going to town and putting all this effort in and she just stared off into space with an almost confused look. I honestly had no idea what the actress was supposed to be emoting because her reaction was so incredibly bizarre.

that kiss gives me nightmares up till today. I talk about it ALL the time as THE worst on-screen kiss of all time.

Love O2O should really be watched when you don’t want to think and see a (too) flawless relationship with two perfect people. I got tired towards the end and the male lead left me with a huge impression as a not so good actor.

The leads in the movie adaptation seemed more human. They just had… well, personalities. I really wanted to see the ML (movie version) in the drama instead.

I actually plan to watch the movie next as my friend did say it was better then the drama. The romance and everything seems sweet and cute, I just can’t get behind how insanely boring the lead couple are.

And I also didn’t like Yang Yang (ML) as an actor. But he was able to turn my opinion around after I watched King’s Avatar (there are better actors out there though). I also don’t like the FL actress either.

Count me in! I always thought I dropped Love O2O because of I didn’t understand nor like the gaming aspect. Actually I still don’t know what it’s about. If I am watching a romance, at least one party must hook me in first. It doesn’t always have to be the guy. But eventually both have to click.

In this case, neither leads work with me. She’s beautiful, he’s handsome. Period.

You know @trinpie I dare not tell you that I can’t get into The King’s Avatar because of Yang Yang. He doesn’t repulse me of course. I acknowledge he’s very good looking and one of those who you’d find it hard to get an ugly photo or wrong angle type, if you know what I mean. But I tried watching him in Avatar, I just didn’t last long enough for him to change my opinion. So I resigned myself to being the minority who can’t appreciate him. I’d take my gremlin anytime.

I didn’t like him until King’s Avatar and it was specifically because of Love O2O (as it was the only drama I had seen him in). Granted, there are better actors out there but he still did a good job in KA. I personally don’t find him attractive and I’m not sure why others do lol

And it’s fine if you don’t watch King’s Avatar 😀 Not every drama is for everyone!

it’s ok. I didn’t find any chemistry between the leads of Love O2O either. Which is why I was so hesitant to give C-Dramas another try. Then “Put your head on my shoulder” happened, and I am now reassured that Love O2O was just a very very bad 1st.
