Of course, only Wei Wuxian would confess his feelings in this way in this situation 🤣 I love him.

(SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL BELOW)

Before Wei WuXian could finish, the sharp pain of flesh being lacerated came from his throat. Something dripped down his neck. Lan WangJi’s face was pale. Jin GuangYao, “How could he not listen to me? Just think about it, Young Master Wei, his life is in my hands.”

Lan WangJi spoke a word at a time, “Do not touch him.”

Jin GuangYao, “Then you know what to do, HanGuang-Jun.”

A moment later, Lan WangJi responded, “Yes.”

Lan XiChen sighed. Lan WangJi raised his hands. With two strong taps, he locked his own spiritual powers.

Jin GuangYao smiled, his voice soft, “This really is…”

Lan WangJi’s eyes were locked on them, “Let him go.”

Wei WuXian, however, stopped him, “Lan Zhan! I-I have to tell you something.”

Jin GuangYao, “Let’s save it for later.”

Wei WuXian, “No. It’s really urgent.”

Jin GuangYao, “Then you can also say it right now.”

It was only an offhand comment, but Wei WuXian seemed as if he realized something, “You’re right.” Right after, Wei WuXian shouted with all he could, “Lan Zhan! Lan WangJi! HanGuang-Jun! Back then, I-I really wanted to sleep with you!”

“…”

“…”

Jin GuangYao’s hands loosened, and the string fell. As soon as he felt the stinging at his neck disappear, Wei WuXian threw himself at Lan WangJi, unable to wait a second longer.

I love the line, “How could he not listen to me? Just think about it, Young Master Wei, his life is in my hands.”

JGY is literally saying that Wei Ying IS Lan Zhan’s life (which is true). 😍

How did you know I just read that part last night?? But I liked what WY says next…

Agreed! His full rambling confession and then LZ repeating his confession back to him in-between kisses after the candles were blown out 😍 I may have reread it a couple times lol

HAHAHAAHAHAHA, say whaaaat? Wangji must have been scintillating between extreme duress and extreme happiness and extreme embarrassment all at once! ๐Ÿ˜€

He definitely didn’t know how to react immediately 🤣 Poor man. Here is what happens directly after:

The shocking confession just now struck Lan WangJi with such force that he still hadn’t finished processing it. A few rare streaks of loss and confusion appeared on his normally calm face. It wasn’t the first time Wei WuXian hugged him as if he was clinging on for dear life, but this time, it was as though Lan WangJi’s body had turned into a heavy log. He froze so much that he didnโ€™t even know where to put his hands.

Wei WuXian, “Lan Zhan, did you hear what I said?!”

Lan WangJi’s lips moved. A moment later, he spoke, “Youโ€ฆ” He’d always been concise and comprehensive with his words, never pausing at all. But right now, he paused with more hesitance than ever. Another moment later, he continued, “You saidโ€ฆ”

That was the first part of the novel that I read! It made me so happy. I love love confessions. This one especially, with the blatantly bad timing and swoonyness made me giggle all the way through.

My other favourite part is when Lan Zhan promises “Everyday” and then just throws him into the bushes and has his way with him. *RAWR*

I haven’t read that part yet but other Beanies kept making jokes about ‘everyday’. It all makes sense now 🤣

I don’t even know how to respond “RAWR”. But I have read that bit many times…

Ha, how did you know exactly where to find that the first time?? “The first part of the novel I read…”

It’s in the chapter title! I just made a guess, they didn’t actually say, ‘And then Lan Zhan jumped Wei Ying in the wilderness’. I just started at the chapter named ‘Wangxian’ and read ahead. Which, because of what followed, lucky me, I guess. 🤣

No, I think the confession was before the Wangxian chapters, so I think I backtracked to figure out what happened earlier. It’s in the Concealment chapters, I think.

I squealed and almost threw my phone in the air while reading this part in the novel because, wow, what a confession! *squeals some more*

I was laughing, squealing and shaking my head at WWX. I loved all this part. They are in this bad situation but it’s like nothing else exists for the both of them 😍 Too busy confessing, kissing, and snuggling.

the equivalent moment in the drama for me might be that scene at Koi Tower where LZ and WY were surrounded by JGY and his peeps with swords, and LZ went all “nah i knew it was wy all along”. *cues music* *stares into each other’s eyes*

Ooh, my other favorite scene (one of many) – LZ’s confession to WY. Well done in the drama, not even subtle.

Thank you for the daily dose of these two…..
that scene was so memorable in the book after having seen the show. I haven’t got to that point in my rewatch. But I like how you put them together….

    Gah, seriously!!
I love this dense guy. It’s just so him to confess in such an awkward way and at the most inappropriate time and place possible. I bet Han Guang-jun wanted to squish this adorable boy hearing that.

SAME. I was reading a Jiang Cheng & Wei Ying post-canon fanfic yesterday and I cried like a baby. I mean, K dramas have NOTHING on this tragic bromance.

Here is my problem with JC. He could be the leader/man that he wants to be but spent so much time being a petty child (irony?) at the skill and personality that WWX had/has. Even in reincarnation WWX was still freaking awesome. In the teen years, I get it, but my dude, you are a clan leader, grow up and not being the punk that can be manipulated that so many people think that you are.

I get what you’re saying, but the guy lost his entire family and the one person who he thought would be on his side basically ditched him for other people without any kind of explanation and then became the focus of a war that lost him his sister. Then he came back to life and got a new family, without (in JC’s POV) really deserving it.
Yeah, he has an immense inferiority complex, unintentionally spurred on by his kinda sucky parents, which made him extremely petty and preferred to let it fester where he should have moved on and focused more positively on his clan and Jin Ling, but because of where he came from, I can understand why it happened. He was bitter and he didn’t get a chance to cauterize that wound because the person he could have done it with wasn’t there.
In his defense, he does seem to grow up a bit at the end.

Great and fair assessment. I guess the whining and constant falling in line really did overlook how he did not look into himself for growth. This weakness other leaders saw and were able to capitalize on it and I was just hoping for some awareness sooner rather than later.

And you know what I think about more, did their father dote on WWX more because he knew that it was going to be a uphill battle with their mother. So many things I am always thinking about.

I am basing my opinion on the senior Jiangs entirely on what I’ve seen in the show because I haven’t read as much of the beginning of the novel. The possibility you mention did occur to me, but I don’t think the show fleshed them out that much, so it just seemed like Madame Yu was constantly ripping into Jiang Cheng for not being as good as Wei Ying, his father was trying fend her off of Wei Ying, but being very aloof at the same time and that wasn’t really fair to Jiang Cheng. Even if you work as hard as you can, there isn’t much you can do against innate talent unless you find a way to work around it. I don’t think Jiang Cheng gave himself the space to grow that far. If he had, things might have been very different.

I have not reached this part in my rewatch. Thanks for posting this, I will read the novel for this part and come back here and read all the comments.
