Life on the Road: An Errand Boy’s Tale

Comments at the end. You know the drill.

Wishful led a double life. During the day she was a hardworking dirt-poor part-timer with the latest phone (a gift from her father who fled abroad due to loan-sharks). She was pretty popular with the boys too.

She especially loved boys who gave her snacks.

Random character quirk: She was secretly a music geeeenius with perfect pitch and dreamed of playing the cello. However, she couldn’t afford one.

Window shopping would have to suffice. *sigh*

At night she became Toki, an Errand Boy in Training. Her missions took her to airports, train stations and terrace cafés (Details are confidential). On the surface it was G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S.

        Did I mention glamorous?

Alas, she only got 4% of the profits, and had to submit reimbursement forms for all travel and food expenses. She hated feeling like an insect within the bureaucracy of Errand Boys and Co.

On top of it, for no reason at all, the Scheming Secretary there didn’t like Toki. She always got the worse schedules, and she never got any Free Food Missions. *sigh*

Toki and Secretary were not on speaking terms. He deliberately ruined her chances of going on a joint mission with her best EB friend (to a K-Food Fest no less!). In short, Toki could not stand the sight of him, and anyone who messes with Toki’s food is on her blacklist.

One weekend Wishful realised she was down to her last pizza. She had run out of battery and forgotten her battery charger at EB Headquarters, so she couldn’t order by Delivery with her expensive phone. She needed to go food shopping.

Commercial break: I keep getting a notification that I’m posting an inappropriate word. DB must not like Cars of Doom.

As she trotted along she counted her vouchers for free ramyun (Narrator: does this exist? I want it!). She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she forgot she was in a country where people drive on the wrong side of the road. And she skipped right into the path of an incoming vehicle…

She hadn’t done much, really. Is this how it ends? Sad.
          ……
Suddenly someone grabbed her arm and pulled her back. OH, IS THIS A KDRAMA MOMENT?! Her imagination went wild with the thought of being rescued by a handsome oppa.

“What do you think you were doing? You should look both ways before crossing!” A familiar voice snapped. Oh no. She had been saved by Scheming Secretary. “I need to find a new job ASAP”, was her only thought.

          THE END
          …..
P.S.: I do believe I wrote the first episode of any nonsensical rom-com out there. Huzzah.

Thanks! Looking forward to your story (no hurry, the bingo combination sounded hilarious).

Love the plot progression of the “nonsensical rom-com”, but you know I will give you a thousand upvotes just for the appearance of the phrase “handsome oppa”.

Ah, I loved this! And I totally knew to ship you and annoying secretary as soon as he appeared 😏

Perfect gif use by the by! I just finished mine and feel like i couldn’t find the precise ones I wanted ~ I really should learn to make my own gifs

Ah noooo, my writing was too transparent. You should be guessing the OTP for a few episodes. *Inserts love triangle with nice cleaning boy next door who’s really a coffee barista geeeenius*

The truth is… I’ve been collecting GIFs for a while. I wasn’t watching any dramas so it became a mini-hobby of mine. I should learn how to make them too.
(I now feel like Mr. Collins saying he collects compliments to use when necessary).

Haha, I might have to adopt your habit ~ though I try to keep as unstudied an air as possible 😉

I cracked up at Mr. Collins!

Mr. Collins has been seriously underappreciated in spite of reliable ways.
@hotcocoagirl and I even are thinking of rehabilitating his image in a Kdrama version of P&P, casting Park Seo Joon for the role. 😛

          8

I’ve heard something about it. Marrying Mr. Collins suddenly wouldn’t feel so bad, would it? 😛
Speaking of P&P, have you seen Pride and Prejudice (the Korean drama)? I’ve read somewhere today that it’s a legal drama adaptation of P&P…

I have not seen it @estee. The “legal” tag always puts me off but maybe I will binge a few episodes next weekend.

I haven’t seen it either, Toki. The word “legal” has put me off as well, so I don’t know if it’s any good. But it does have Choi Jin Hyuk if it helps. 🙂

Ah yes, I’m so excited for our drama version of Mr Collins, not just because it means more PSJ on my screen.

And @estee I tried the legal P&P, because I was super excited, but it didn’t seem to have any resemblance to the novel…

            @hotcocoagirl
I knew it was too good to be true… Maybe they meant the personalities of main leads? In that case though, any K-drama with an arrogant jerk and a plucky Candy could pass as P&P adaptation.

            @wishfultoki
Thank you for the casting link. Thinking that the cat had gotten my tongue at PSJ for Mr Collins, I now find myself fully dumbfounded (as in, what are you guys thinking???). As a new guest, I will just say that My Korean Darcy™ has always taken the hunky forms of Hyun Bin or Gong Yoo or, indeed, PSJ types. But you all must follow your own muses! I love the Namgoong Min as Mr Collins idea, though. And whether Namgoong Min or Park Seo Joon takes the part, just slap me on the bottom and call me Charlotte 😍

This is definitely not what Mr. Collins did.😂😂😂

Hehe, kind of… I don’t know if it was mentioned in the film, but it’s in the book:

“I sometimes amuse myself with suggesting and arranging such little elegant compliments as may be adapted to ordinary occasions [though] I always wish to give them as unstudied an air as possible.”
Mr. Bennet’s expectations were fully answered. His cousin was as absurd as he had hoped.

Not really, there is no self-absorption in your case so even if it is for our amusement, the reasoning is different.
These are the kind of littlr things which please her ladyship, and it is a sort of attention which I conceive myself peculiarly bound to pay.

That’s very kind of you. I was worried I’d be seen as a Collins type for building a GIF Database. It is for everyone’s amusement hopefully 😂

Have I ever told you that I love you, Toki? Because I do. And this was awesome, and I don’t know how to have a cool gif story after this. XD

I am actually very curious about some wedding news I read today…Congrats I guess? (aren’t you too young?) I see people are even betting on it. The life of a married Errand Boy is no joke.
How did you end up trapped in a maze of love and tears? Hint hint.

Do you have your trope card ready?

I am too young, in my opinion. But one should never go against Coco when she has an idea.

I have my tropes in mind! Let me see what I can do!

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for Ep2 of this supposedly “nonsensical (not) rom-com”. Even though I know how it is going to end (unless you are going to pull a stunt like APAD writer which I’ll never forgive you wishfultoki if you do that), I want more! Give me more! 😆😆

LOL I’ll see what I can do!
I realised with this exercise that it is very easy to write episode 1. The problem is how to continue and how to give it a satisfactory ending. Maybe I needed this experience to be less harsh on drama writers.

      1
      1

I think for a rom-com, a satisfactory ending won’t be a difficult thing to do, it’s the journey towards the ending that may earn you either lots of love and adulation or brickbrats from netizen and maybe a death threat or two from diehard rom-com fans for spoiling the characterization of their fav characters 😂

        #sosaidapersonwhoneverwriteastoryinherlife #armchaircritic

        Anyway, chop chop! Time’s a ticking! Where’s Ep2?

I…never thought I would end up writing rom-coms… Ok, I’ll write Ep. 2 later this week and tag you. *pulls out trope list for help*

Can’t believe I have my first fan! (a demanding one too). 😂

I especially LOVED the ending, did not expect it 😂
    I should work on mine…

Oh, well I’m glad you found the ending unexpected LOL! I thought the story was too predictable. After all, it is full of tropes.
