I know we’ve all probably been guilty of the “whorey Hyori” play on words at one point, but now she’s she’s just helping everyone arrive at that conclusion, isn’t she?
Here she poses for her promo poster (”It’s Hyorish!”) for her recently leaked third album (which officially releases in early July). Hopefully this time, her album makes news on the merits of its own songs (ha) rather than for ripping off others’.
Well, you’ve seen the photos, you’ve heard about the song, and maybe you’ve seen the clips of her video. But now you can listen to both versions of the Lee Da Hae rendition (Korean and English) of the song “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and judge for yourselves.
As for me, I wouldn’t say it’s awful… It’s certainly not as awkward as the video.
She sounds… very nasal and whiny, and holds JUST enough of a tune that you can see why people thought Lee Da Hae had enough ability to put out her own single. (I think they were overshooting.)
(It also suggests that despite her schooling in Australia, she’s not fluent in English, which I’ve suspected for a while. Her pronunciation’s better than the average Korean, but it seems she’s trying to compensate for her deficiency by mumbling — I can’t even really tell the English version is in English. Which is why I think the Korean version is far better, even if they sound almost the same when you’re not trying to understand the lyrics.)
Let’s hope she sticks to acting. She’s actually pretty good at it.
Arirang TV will start airing a daily “sitcom” (and let’s use that word lightly) beginning on the 8th and running three months, about the humorous dealings of foreigners living in Korea, in a program called… wait for it… Homey Korean.
“Homey” in the name is explained as “my home in Korea” but all that comes to my mind is “…don’t play that.”
Inspired by the success of talk show Misuda, the sitcom will revolve around the issue of cultural differences. For instance: A foreign resident talks to a Korean friend, who says, “Hey let’s have dinner together sometime” merely as a matter of courtesy. But of course, our foreigner doesn’t understand, and rushes home immediately to prepare a dinner table, taking the Korean friend at his word. Ahh, comedy gold.
Because! The foreigners! They do not understand the Koreans! Think of all the cultural misunderstandings! It will be funny! And not stupid at all!
It’s like Perfect Strangers but less funny, because at least that show had Bronson Pinchot rocking his Balki accent. And the Dance of Joy.
With the program divided into different portions, the cast will be likewise divided, with Brian from singing duo Fly to the Sky for the English-language portion, comedian Jo Hye Ryun for the Japanese portion, Kang Rae Yeon for the Chinese, and Son Mina for the Spanish. (The foreigners-in-Korea roles will be featured in their respective sections.) Get ready to laugh!… or not.
