Uhm has basically been working nonstop for the past year and a half, ever since taking on 2010′s romantic comedy film Cyrano Dating Agency, then the 2010 sports-medicine drama Dr. Champ. In the past year alone he’s filmed or released three movies: dark rom-com Neverending Story, Crime Squad, and Introduction to Architecture. Plus, there’s the whole ongoing 1 Night 2 Days gig he’s been doing.

This sounds pretty interesting: Baek Sung-hyun (Accidental Couple, Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds) is taking on a leading role in a Drama Special miniseries called Monster. Most Drama Special installments have been one-offs, but this one (like Rock Rock Rock) will have more episodes; it’s scheduled for eight total.

The plot of Monster involves murders that take place at a private high school over eight days of winter break, during which seven students and one teacher remain behind. In addition, a psychiatrist also joins them at the school after being involved in a car accident.

The drama formerly known as Running Shirt, whose title was briefly changed to Racing Hearts, has gotten a new title just in time for its premiere this week: Running. (Yeah, it’s pretty plain, although the Korean employs a pun; the main character’s last name is Gu, and the title can be read “Running, Gu” or “런닝, 구”.)

Anyway. The drama has released a few stills from the set, and mostly I’m thinking those are some super short shorts on runners Yoo Yeon-seok and Baek Sung-hyun. And a silly costume on Park Min-young. Outfits aside, the preview (watch below) looks like a potentially cute and heartwarming watch despite its straightforward, familiar story.

MBC’s sports/youth drama formerly called Running Shirt [난닝구] has gotten a new title just in time for its airdate next Wednesday, and is now called Racing Heart [심장이 뛴다]. Which is probably more appropriate, as the four-episode drama combines the story of a marathon runner (Baek Sung-hyun) with a love story, which places him in a love triangle with Park Min-young and Yoo Yeon-seok.

Baek, who recently acted in the lush period film Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds, replaced Song Joong-ki (who was originally cast) to play runner Dae-gu. Yoo plays Baek’s rival in the sport and for the girl; after debuting in Oldboy, he has acted steadily since in both films an movies. Most recently he was in the dramas Dream, General Hospital 2, and Hon (as the bullying student body president). Meanwhile, this is Park’s return to television after her drama Ja Myung Go was cut short a year ago.

The drama is currently shooting in Gyeongju and Pohang and will air its first episode on June 9. It will be followed the historical war drama Road No. 1 later this month.

Song Joong-ki was announced as the lead in MBC’s four-episode special drama Running Shirt, but now another actor has been announced in the role: Baek Sung-hyun (Accidental Couple). There has been no official news of Song dropping the project and he’s actually still listed as the lead, but it appears Baek is taking the role of main character Dae-gu.

I was looking forward to seeing Song Joong-ki heading Running Shirt (perhaps he’s busy filming Sungkyunkwan Scandal?), but Baek Sung-hyun has shown that he’s got a lot of potential as well. A former child actor, the now 21-year-old Baek’s earliest credits date back to when he was 5 (in 1994′s I Wish For What Is Forbidden); he had child roles in Damo and Marathon, then graduated to more grown-up acting in the recent Lee Jun-ik feature Like The Moon Escaping From Clouds.

Running Shirt airs in the gap between newly ended Personal Taste and the upcoming miniseries Road No. 1. (Another four-episode special, Living Without Incident, will air this week and next; Running Shirt takes over beginning June 9.)

I know I just posted about this movie, but I dig stuff like this. With the buzz growing for the film Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds, now attention is turning toward the original manhwa upon which the movie is based, which was written and illustrated by Park Hong-yong. The first trailer for Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds was released earlier this month, and now a longer preview has come out, along with a couple additional posters.

The historical action film pits main characters Cha Seung-won and Hwang Jung-min against each other; the former leads a rebellion to overturn the social order, while the latter is a blind swordsman who believes in protecting the world. Cha is of royal blood but was born illegitimate, and now vows to take the throne.

Coming from King and the Clown director Lee Jun-ik, the new film Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds has been drawing buzz for a while now. The production released a new teaser trailer on March 4, which largely features two of its four main actors facing off against each other: Hwang Jung-min as a blind swordsman and Cha Seung-won as a leader of rebellious forces fighting to overturn the strict social order. Cha declares, “Let’s wipe out this rotten world!” and Hwang says, “A swordsman must hide behind his blade.”

It’s been a while since we’ve had a sex comedy come out (it seems?): the “bright, sexy romantic comedy” movie Festival has announced its cast, and it’s packed with name actors. Taking the lead are Ryu Seung-beom, Eom Ji-won, and Shin Ha-kyun in the film written and directed by Lee Hae-young of films like No Manners (which he wrote) and Like a Virgin (which he directed).

The movie is set in a “wholesome neighborhood where four suspicious couples live sly lives.” The four groups are arranged as follows:

(1) Thirst‘s husband Shin Ha-kyun pairs with The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry‘s bubbly Eom Ji-won. He’s a frustrated police officer whose confidence in his sexual prowess takes a hit when he discovers his live-in girlfriend’s vibrator. Eom is an English teacher who buys the gadget on a whim and sends her boyfriend into emotional tumult.

(2) Everybody Cha Cha Cha‘s Shim Hye-jin teams with Chuno‘s twisted slave hunter Sung Dong-il. She’s the elegant proprietor of a hanbok shop, but one day finds herself unexpectedly excited at the sight of a whip and handcuffs, and starts to enjoy “a secret private life.” Sung owns a hardware store and is known by neighbors as being a gentle, warm-hearted guy, but that’s because they don’t know what happens after he discovers her interest.

(3) Chungmuro favorite Ryu Seung-beom is back to flexing his comic chops as he couples up with 20-year-old Baek Jin-hee (Bandhobi, Loving You a Thousand Times) as a “mysterious” guy who resists the advances of a high school girl. Despite his non-reaction, she throws herself all over him.

(4) Thirst‘s Oh Dal-soo, who frequently plays comic and/or creepy oddballs, plays a high school teacher with a fetish for the feel of lingerie.

The film will begin filming in March and is aiming for a release later this year.

King and the Clown director Lee Jun-ik‘s latest movie, Like the Moon Escaping from Clouds [구르믈 버서난 달처럼], has released character posters for its four leads, and they are simply gorgeous.

Based on a manhwa created by Park Heung-yong, this movie is set in the Joseon era as a revolutionary attempts to upend the social order and become king. The year is 1592 as the three lead males “are forced to wield their swords at each other in a fateful showdown.”
