Finally, news of a new KBS weekend drama! (The historical series Iron Empress has occupied the slot for many months, and is finally heading to its close. I, for one, am happy to see another contemporary offering take its place.)

The show to take that prime-time slot in October is called Hot-Blooded Salesman [열혈장사꾼], and stars Chae Jung-ahn (Cain & Abel, Coffee Prince), Park Hae-jin (East of Eden), and Choi Chul-ho (Partner, Queen of Housewives).

Partner got off to its start this week, and it was kind of like I expected: flawed but fairly entertaining. Not a fabulous story, and there are some pretty big plot holes, but the acting keeps it afloat. I hadn’t realized just how much I’d missed Lee Dong-wook — but he is SO enjoyable.

With less than a week left till the premiere of new legal drama Partner [파트너], the cast was on hand at the series production press conference on June 19. The drama is KBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday offering and stars Kim Hyun-joo (Insoon is Pretty) and Lee Dong-wook (La Dolce Vita).

Partner is described as showing a realistic look at the Korean legal system, although the preview stills make it seem as though there’s a strong comic bent. (I suppose we’ll have to wait and see what the tone ends up being, but with the first episode ready to go on June 24, we won’t have long to wait.

KBS’s Partner is readying for its premiere next week and, to whet our appetites some more, has released yet more stills from the drama, which feature its stars goofing off together on set.

Following the end of Accidental Couple this week, Partner pairs Kim Hyun-joo with Lee Dong-wook in an opposites-attract story in a high-powered law firm setting. These stills were filmed in the drama’s courtroom set, located in Paju.

Producers boasted pride in the compatibility of their leads, who have been playing well off each other both onscreen and off as they rest between takes: “It’s not just with their acting, but they’re also perfect partners in joking around.”

Still, I was pleased to see that Honey Lee is the latest addition to the legal drama (I really like her, even though I’ve never seen her act before; it’s just one of those aura things). She’s cast as a femme fatale attorney, which is a bit of a departure from her pretty, smiley image. I suppose she’ll fit right in with the coolly competent lawyers played by Choi Chul-ho and Lee Dong-wook; it’ll be interesting seeing her portray a hard, strong character against Kim Hyun-joo’s nice one.

This is not Honey Lee’s acting debut — she’s done musical theater before — nor is it her first television job (she has been host of SBS’s entertainment program “생방송 TV 연예”). However, this will be her first onscreen acting role.

Remember how Queen of Housewives actor Choi Chul-ho alluded to his next project in the recent interview with Yoon Sang-hyun? Turns out that project is KBS’s Partner, the law drama starring Lee Dong-wook and Kim Hyun-joo.

Choi Chul-ho follows up his turn as the prickly — but also hilarious — businessman in Queen of Housewives in a role that suits his image to a tee, which is that of a cool-headed lawyer who has a 100% win rate. (Kim Hyun-joo is the naive one who wants to help people; Lee Dong-wook is the snobby one who thinks of law as strictly business.)

I kinda would have liked to see Choi go for a more outrageously funny role instead of a serious one, but I suppose all in all, Partner keeps looking up. It takes over the Wednesday and Thursday timeslot when Accidental Couple ends in late June.
