Ah, it’s refreshing to hear word of a NEW new drama (as in, one not mentioned before), given the new-drama-promotion glut that we’re dealing with these days. Preparations are still in preliminary stages for this new series, but we’ve got a name and producers and a bit of a plot to pique our interest: It’s titled Three Days, comes to us from the PD of Tree With Deep Roots (Shin Kyung-soo) and the writer of Ghost and Sign (Kim Eun-hee), and like those dramas will be up for a slot on SBS’s lineup.

Notably, Three Days is modeling itself after American TV show 24, which is a statement I don’t quite understand and the press releases don’t explain. The time format must be part of the comparison, but it’s not obvious exactly how they’re alike; 24 mimicked a “real time” format with each episode ticking down one hour, so that one full season chronicled our hero’s Worst Day Ever from start to finish. This drama is looking at a 20-episode run and will cover a three-day span, so it won’t quite fit the real time structure. Although I think it’s probably a safe guess that these’ll likely become our hero’s Worst Three Days Ever.

Another similarity with the American show: Three Days involves a presidential plot, unfolding around an emergency that arises at the president’s villa and featuring Blue House bodyguards as main characters. Thankfully they won’t be emulating the immediacy of its plotline in production; the show plans to pre-produce half the entire series. I am a fan of this idea. Fully pre-filmed dramas tend to flop in the marketplace, but a little extra buffer time in the production process can’t be a bad thing.

Three Days is aiming to score a Wednesday-Thursday timeslot in the fall; September is the earliest potential date, though the window extends till December. Who knows if it’ll be any good, but right now it’s got a dash of freshness that’s music to my ears.

2012 was certainly a mixed bag: I saw plenty of action dramas and then I saw fluffy dramas that made no sense. There were dramas I loved, dramas that I liked enough, and then dramas that I hated. It was a tough year for me, and I felt I had bad luck in choosing which dramas to watch this year. But it helps to appreciate all the dramas – good or bad – because there are still plenty of life lessons to be learned from them.

One of my goals for this year was to watch a drama from every letter of the alphabet – HA! Like that really happened. But in the hopes that I did, the reviews will be in alphabetical order… with life lessons in between.

I think… I just stumbled into a totally different drama than I had expected. I shed metaphorical blood, sweat, and tears for this drama. Thanks for being worth my time – though I still won’t forgive you for being delayed by London Olympics 2012.

Just this one time.

So the video implicates Hyun Min. That means he’s screwed, right? The court will reconvene in one week as the judges discuss the verdict of the case. Hyun Min goes over to Hyuk Joo and Woo-Young: “It’s not over.” OK – it may not be over, but he sure as hell getting arrested! Hyuk Joo smiles deliciously as he reads him his rights: “You have the right to an attorney… and the right to explain yourself.” Heh.

And we’re back! The one week delay certainly did not help the momentum of this drama, but thankfully we do get a little refresher in past events at the beginning of the episode: Hyun Min finds out for sure that Woo Hyun is really Ki Young, and is thus dubbed Woo-Young; Woo-Young takes down Dae Young Group and Eung Jin; however, manipulated evidence surfaces that shows Woo-Young as the killer of Nam Sang Won, which puts him on the wanted list. Woo-Young approaches Director Jun with the truth – that he’s really Ki Young and that Woo Hyun was investigating Jo Hyun Min. Chief Shin is confirmed to be on Hyun Min’s side, and Director Jun dies.

And now, during Jo Jae Min’s trial, Woo-Young arrives in court to announce that Hyun Min is the real killer.

Things get personal in this episode. I swear this is the worst cliffhanger in all of mankind considering that we won’t have new episodes of Ghost next week. It’s painful - painful – because we’re getting so close to the end! I’m thankful that the writer has not rushed anything so far, so Hyun Min is going to have a slow death. Or what I hope is a slow death for him, and not a single death for any of our cyber crime team members.

Secrets never last long. Though one thinks they can keep it hidden forever, eventually the secret busts through the cracks and reveals itself for all. Hyun Min’s skeletons in his closet are just as bound to come out as the fact that Woo-Young is actually Ki Young. And goodness, once a drop of a secret leaks out, it pours. There is no stopping it from spreading.

Sad news for impatient drama viewers, which may be a redundant moniker. What, you can’t just give me my crack and then TAKE IT AWAY. The London Olympics will be taking over some major primetime broadcasting slots, and it looks like dramas will be preempted left and right. Everyone take a deep breath, and stock up on some behind-the-scenes videos and reruns to tide yourselves over for the next few weeks.

I honestly think that this was a killer episode – an awesome way to raise the stakes after episode 15′s ending. Hyun Min’s got nowhere to turn, so he’s lashing out against Woo-Young in any way he can to buy time and finish his revenge. And, he’s a lot closer to finishing it than I thought.

It’s an exciting turning point as for the first time in this series, I get to see Hyun Min all flustered. Yes – flustered! With the number of subordinates on his side dwindling, and the Three Musketeers getting stronger, it’s only a matter of time before Hyun Min is finally ruined. And this episode, I feel, is the beginning of his end.

Just when we’re about to get somewhere! Just like in the last episode, more important plot developments occur, but because the Three Musketeers are doing so well, the writer decides to drop a few bombs to create some more obstacles for them. Smooth sailing? What’s that?
