Which 2007 dramas were the most watched?

Jumong

I put up my list of top dramas without regard to their overall popularity or ratings, and I feel safe saying that my guest bloggers did so as well. But in case you’re curious to know which dramas topped the ratings charts in 2007, here are all the big ones, drawing in viewerships in the whopping 50% range.

(Are you sick of all this year-end review stuff? Don’t worry; this is the last of it! Tomorrow we ring in 2008. Happy new year, everyone!)

Return of the “What the hell–?!” writers

Fascinating.

(Although, I’d hate to be called a “What the hell?!” writer. Oh, wait, was that just an invitation? Very well. Everyone gets a freebie “What the hell?!”)

Personally, I find the columnist’s conclusion kinda theatrical and pearl-clutchy (isn’t there some parents’ council s/he can join?), but it’s an interesting read nonetheless.

“How could they?”—”Still, I’m hooked”—”Problematic writers” return to the screen

The “problematic writers” have returned. “They” are writers penning “curse-inducing dramas” — a newly coined phrase [i.e., dramas that make us curse at the screen while still watching] — that are constantly criticized, yet enjoy high viewership ratings: Lim Sung Han, Moon Young Nam, and Seo Young Myung. With the comeback of these three, our autumn nights show sign of becoming noisier.

More First Impressions: Cats, Pigs, and Grapes

Rather than calling the current drama drought a Coffee Prince withdrawal, I think it’s more of a general late-summer ennui type thing. Summer’s winding down, it’s (really, enervatingly) hot, and some of us working stiffs don’t have much vacation to begin with other than the odd three-day weekend like the one we just had (by the way, “Working on Labor Day, how ironic!” jokes are NO LONGER FUNNY. I must have heard that at least three times yesterday. Please find new ways to express recycled wit, thanks. While you’re at it, please fix this whole global warming thing too. Indian summers suck. Especially when they come accompanied with random rolling blackouts. Although, to digress upon digression, “The Rolling Blackouts” = best band name ever. I’m pretty sure the actual band sucks, but their name is gold.)

Getting back to the point, my search for a decent drama continues. I may have found one, but this post isn’t about it. This one is about one bust, one popcorn drama, and one question mark.
