With this batch of episodes, we head into some of my favorite territory, which coincides with the ending of one (tiresome) love line and the beginning (or elevation) of another, more interesting one.

Recaps are back! Sorry for the wait, but you know how these things go. The show recently wrapped and claimed the slot as highest-rated drama of the year, but as far as recaps go I think we’re just starting to head into deeper plot territory with these episodes, now that we’ve got one brother (Sun-pung) happily married off and out of the way.

Sun-pung’s had the least dramatic courtship so I think it was smart to start off the series with his and Eun-ji’s romance — I know I was tuning in to the earlier episodes mostly to follow their development. I’m a little sad that the Sun-pung–Eun-ji relationship will probably recede now, since they are my favorite pair, but I suppose they need to make room for the others now.

Han Sang-jin of the just-ended Sons of Sol Pharmacy and Bae Soo-bin of Brilliant Legacy are two actors from the #1 and #2 dramas of the year (ratings-wise), and now they team up for Angel’s Temptation, which is SBS’s new revenge drama premiering today.

The interesting thing about this casting, as mentioned before, is that both men play the same character. And forget the nice, warm image portrayed by both men in their previous dramas; in case the guyliner wasn’t a tip-off, we’ve got a bad boy on our hands. Han Sang-jin marries the character played by Lee So-yeon (Why Did You Come To Our House) without knowing that she is solely out to avenge her own family; because of his father, her parents died and she lost her younger sister. Originally a nice guy from a rich family, he is a devoted husband completely in love with his wife, who only pretends to love him back. Therefore, he is heartbroken to learn of his wife’s adultery and undergoes a complete personality turnaround. Deciding on an extreme makeover, he undergoes drastic plastic surgery to emerge with Bae Soo-bin’s face and a revenge scheme of his own. (He also apparently shrinks an inch or so in the process, but we won’t quibble over little things like that, will we?)

If you’re only interested in seeing Bae’s appearance, you can wait until November 3; he doesn’t show up until Episode 8. But personally, I think Han Sang-jin is wonderfully warm, as we saw in Sol Pharmacy — enough that it might be painful watching his heart break into itty bitty little pieces onscreen.

Angel’s Temptation begins this week, and airs a full hour earlier than the traditional prime-time slot to avoid competition with MBC’s Queen Seon-deok.

Bae Soo-bin won over viewers with his appealing character in Brilliant Legacy, but takes a different turn as a revenge-seeker in SBS’s upcoming makjang drama Angel’s Temptation [천사의 유혹].

The drama comes from the writer of Wife’s Temptation and director of First Wives Club, and had initially cast Yoon So-yi in the lead role. However, Yoon dropped out citing health concerns, and Lee So-yeon (Why Did You Come to Our House) was brought in to replace her.

In Angel’s Temptation, the lead character (Lee So-yeon) seeks revenge for the ruin of her family, and marries into her enemy’s household. Her husband discovers her intent belatedly and decides on his own revenge. However, he loses everything in an accident, and resurfaces with his revenge plans intact — but with another face.

Sound familiar? However, Angel’s Temptation differs from Wife’s Temptation, in which Jang Seo-hee played two different roles. Here, the character’s two different looks will be portrayed by different actors — the “before” character will be taken on by Han Sang-jin, who is currently acting as lovable doof Sun-pung in Sons of Sol Pharmacy. Bae Soo-bin makes his appearance after the character undergoes plastic surgery.

Angel’s Temptation has also cast Kim Tae-hyun of White Lies, and will take over Dream’s timeslot on Mondays and Tuesday nights. The drama begins filming this weekend and will premiere in October.

KBS has planned an extension for SSPH?! I don’t know how I feel about that as I think the recent storylines have been dragged out a little too long as it is. But, overall, I’m still enjoying the show so hopefully it won’t wear out its welcome. And, if anything, it helps me feel like I’m a little less behind in my recaps. Hehe. On with the show!
